hey! what you are doing is not Shotokan style but going the trend of ballet-acrobatic karate which is far from the original way of doing kicks for self defense. show how strong is your kick by kicking a heavy bag; and you kick only hip level not showy kicking high which can be easily countered by one that is good in kicking defense.

Hi....i understand your statements and truly agree. The kicks I show are extremely powerful if done a different way and we really practice like that. However, this video is just for sports kumite tactics, I hope you understand the difference. Secondly, I don't need to show how strong my kick is, as I am a heavy kicker. In real situations ofc I shall not use any of these ( As this a sports based )

That is why, sir, I said that instead of showing how to do high kicks, show how to really kick, in street fight or kumite. show how to kick, the Shotokan way, fast and strong. I am not a blackbelt but I have 1 month experience in Shotokan style which I carried as my way of personal training in Karate even when I trained in other arts- Combat Aikido and our Filipino art of Arnis. As a retiree I continue practicing for fitness doing kicking(Shotokan way-simple and direct) and punching(adapting western boxing lace with Karate extended knuckles). I do not like what is happening now in Karate they taught sports karate instead of self defense karate then trim that for sports Karate if competing in sports. The way you fight in the street is also the way you fight in kumite- for survival. Of course minus those prohibited strikes in kumite. Art, as has been said, should not be restricted by tradition.

Apparently you've no idea of sport karate. This guy's kicks are effective in sport kumite. Whether you like it or not, tournaments are what most of karatekas do karate for. If it works in sport sparring, it's definitely not a ballet or acrobatics but an effective technique. Is it powerful? Certainly not because power in sport karate is traded for speed, deception and control. If you don't test your karate in competition how can you tell if it's effective? By hitting the bag? Stop kidding me😂 You may hit the bag million times yet loose the street fight in a split of a second. How do you know if your karate is effective in self defence, if it's never been tested in real situation? Only because you do everything as instructed? I've walked all the way from perfect technique which works in kihon and on the bag only, to an effective sport technique and to me an individual who never tests their karate in sport fight is not a karateka.
