5 - TailorBrands I found to have the least transparency on pricing, services and packages. You pretty much have to email support to figure out what is you're buying and how much it costs. They have the least amount of track record in the LLC formation space. They also have subscription fees in the mid/high tier packages.
4 - LegalZoom has the longest track record but has taken on so much investment that they are far and away the most expensive service.
3. Northwest Registered Agent hasn't taken on any funding and they're affordable. They have good options for out-of-country business owners trying to set up an LLC in the US
2. ZenBusiness used to have higher fees but has recently started a $0 plus state fee to match Bizee/Incfile. I was just about to go with Zen Business for starting an LLC, but then I decided that I should look up some reviews...I found a couple youtube videos, but they were SUPER sketchy, glowing reviews, but all the comments felt like they were written by non-English speakers, and asking questions that seemed like they had been answered in the video with really canned, corporate feeling responses from the video creator, who at one point used the pronoun "we" as if he was speaking as a rep for Zenbusiness himself. The second video I watched had the exact same video clips from the first, and maybe not the identical script, but there were definitely some of the same sentences in there, and the voice sounded really AI...the comments on that video had the same vibe as the first. Anyway I ended up going to my state's Secretary of state website, where they had their own explainer videos on how to set up the LLC and it was super easy.

I look at it like this. If spending a few extra bucks with setting up your business lowers the resistance then it’s always worth it. Entrepreneurship is not a 100% strategic game where you fully optimized every dollar. It’s emotional too and making certain aspects easier allows you to save energy and spend it on necessary tasks. Took me a long time to figure that out as I always did everything the hard way.

Thank you. To me this purchase isn’t like hiring a contractor where you’re figuring out cost vs quality. All the services (minus TailorBrands) seem legit to me so the final cost matters more. It’s not like LegalZoom is going to do a better job than incfile or zenbusiness. It’s just paperwork and processing mostly.

Great review of the top 5 in terms of basic packages, fees and which are subscriptions. Thanks to you and the team! I'd love to see what you think if a company is more complicated or wants full turnkey solution with Legal and Tax services. Seems like those are the additional services you get with a more expensive company like LegalZoom and would be included in the $747 total year 1 costs ... which for some would be totally worth it. You're likely going to need these services anyway and could cost you a lot more.

Just liked and subscribed. Great info. Definitely going with Inc. the only thing i am unsure if say in a week I start the business and start buying things for the business, will it be tax deductible? My business is steadily making money but dont know if it is the right time to make it legal. If i can start deducting right away , i wouldnt have a problem reporting all my income

Living in NJ, I just set up directly on the state website - it took me only 30 minutes, which also included the IRS EIN number request which was free in took 5 minutes. You really should discuss the free option for going directly to state website.

Have you done a video for those that may have already created an llc and then learned after the fact about having a post office box and the process to modify it? Really like the video just have question i'm in florida and through the sunbiz website when filing they have a turnaround time of 3 to 5 days for filing most of the services I've seen. Most of the services have higher turn around time then that lowest i had seen was 10 days when paying for the expedited option why is filing it through the state agency so much quicker or does it take longer to get approved for the other documentation and certificates

Good question and not 100% sure but did you call and they told you that or is that what it said on the site? Some of the state sites will list a static time but (some) of the services have dynamic times meaning they show you an updated timeline based on the last XX number of orders. Yes you need to research if you need any biz licenses. Incfile has a research package that does this for you but you can also research your state site, county and city to see if you need anything. Not every biz needs a license.

Are you in PA by chance? They were way behind few months back. Also incfile lists the actual time based on dynamic data meaning it’s based on how the last XX orders went with the state. Other services just tell you it’ll be shorter and it’s longer.

It does not but the difference in price is just the package fee. So if you go with the golf package it’s $199 more and that isn’t a subscription. Can’t remember off the top of my head what the platinum package costs. P

Yes in the calc I’m comparing the lowest basic packages. You can only get the annual compliance if you do their top tier plan which is a subscription service.
