Looking at every set since Evolving Skies, wondering which set is the best one to invest in, or is it too late? Evolving Skies, Lost Origin, Crown Zenith, Paldea Evolved, Paldean Fates, or Scarlet & Violet 151? What are your thoughts?

Evolving Skies is just ludicrous imo. The pull rates are terrible for the price you have to pay. It's a great set, but the obsession over the moonbreon has just sent it through the moon.

Hey been watching you regularly for a couple of weeks now. Have one issue with your comparison. While I like that you use expected values, you’re taking a market snapshot of crown zenith and 151 when 151 is likely to reprint and CZ likely not. The expected value of 151 will come down with reprints and cz will probably go up. So for me, at least in the short term, CZ is the better play.

Thanks for your feedback! I agree with you, and I do go into the fact that 151 should get reprinted and CZ likely won't; and so I do think that CZ could see higher growth sooner then 151 and may overtake 151 in value returned sooner. However, I think in the end, 151 will prevail as it already is now, but there could be a shorter term time period where CZ takes the lead.. a lot more cards then just mewtwo and giratina need to skyrocket for that. Market demand currently seems very concentrated.

I don't think you can go wrong with 80 UPCs long term... I mean, always buy within your budget and only with money you're willing to part with forever.. just in case.

While nothing in my presence is safe from being ripped, I agree with your takes. Those sets are still available at MSRP or less so now would be the time to stock up. Regardless of how much of it is out there at the moment, most will rip while it's cheap so playing the long hold game should work out for most at this entry level. Sealed is king. Singles have their place but I truly believe the market will be extremely saturated on that front eventually. Japanese 151 is being reprinted into oblivion right now but I think that set has so much going for it, my prediction is it'll be the greatest rebound for booster boxes this hobby has ever seen. Master Ball! Master Ball!

That's crazy $540 to be able to pull leafeon v. Or you can just buy the card for $20. It's crazy cause crown zenith pull rates are good. Imagine evolving skies

Even if they reprint, it still will hold value down the line. Yea it probably won’t be as high but it still will hold a high value just because what it is

I hope they don't reprint but if they did I wouldn't be mad I need a few chase cards but either way I am pretty sure even a reprint won't reach demand for this set .

What sets TWM apart for you, that pushes it above TEF? I think they're both great sets, but I lean TEF because I love the set of 6 paradox pokemon.

On a side note I bought some gardevoir tins from a dollar general today in NH and they had a pack of cosmic eclipse. I've been buying them in MA for a while now with all rebel clash. The point is anything is possible. All pokemon sealed goes up over time. Buy it all. All of it will end up higher than now if you wait long enough.

If you buy the empoleon/tyranitar tins, which I have been, I am leaving the 3 evolving skies packs sealed, and opening the brilliant stars. It pays to be able to open both packs of brilliant stars packs. All of the tins I have opened have 3 evolving skies packs in them. Hoping to hold onto the evo skies packs for a while, hoping for 50 a pack.

been doing that for the past year myself i got about 150 loose evo skies packs there worth 12 bucks each now i see them going for 20 bucks each in a year from now

I agree with you but I would do the Japanese 151 I think that would be the best route and as far as Crown Zenith yes you might pay $5 a pack now but the numbers I guarantee you in 6 months is going to be in your favor

The $80 UPC is the best option if you want to invest in this product. The thing is I think you should hold on to it for 5 years because I’m sure this set will be printed like crown.

It depends what your goals are. Are you short term, are you long term? If short term I’d have to say you should pickup a lost origin booster box for what I think would be the quickest “double-up” if you are able to find a box at $175. For long term: I would agree but a case of modern scarlet violet for long term would also be a wise play.

Paldean fates is underrated. 151 is hyped So I think pokemon will reprint 151 not paldean fates.

I don’t think reprints will matter in 5-6 years. Which is how long you should be holding sealed product regardless right. I also wonder if improved pull rates could help sealed in the future for SV stuff. I don’t know why I’d bother with a sword and shield booster box at the price they are now with such a low chance of pulling anything.

I never saw anyone use published pull rate data to compute a statistical value of sets for comparison before I did. But there are thousands of pokemon channels out there, so if you don't think I'm producing anything new, interesting, or entertaining, then you're right, I'm not different. I ask myself the same question all the time, trying to make new content to fit those criteria.

Where do you people come up with these rates per card. I feel like there way off. I pulled so many of these full arts under 100 packs. Including giratina, arceus, mewtwo, darkrai, pikachu and palkia.

It’s called small sample size dude. Just because you got those in under 100 doesn’t mean that’s at all accurate to the overall product. Even 1000 probably isn’t but it’s much closer than your sample.

I don’t think it is 151… special sets are printed to the moon and don’t perform. Any regular set booster box is a better investment than 151. Same goes for any booster box in SwSd over CZ

It is all about cost per pack ratio indeed. And with that V striker tin. If you can get one for 20 bucks, with 3 ES and 2 BS then for ES it is 4 dollar a pack. Makes it more affordable. But it would be insane to collect 1k packs to pull a Moonbunny because you might as well buy it 7/8 times. As along as you get your packs below 10/12 each you're having a safe bet for sealed collection. And you can open brilliant stars, fusion strike along the way. Because those are included too and since the ES packs are not done climbing the other packs are essentialy free to open. That is a better way: get some cheaper packs to rip, and let the more expensive one trip up. Also SV151 and PE are still in reprint window. Japanese 151 got tanked hard with the reprint. I'll guess they do a reprint PE/SV151 during October - November for Black Friday / Boxing Day deals. Untill then a 80 dollar UPC at Costco is a no brainer given the 16 packs and goodies.
