That watch is 193 years old and in pristine condition! Even $20,000 seems low for that watch.

Ce n'est pas l'ancienneté et la qualité qui fait le prix. La rareté l'est également. Et ces montres ne sont pas rares.

1) Appraisers generally give conservative estimates, especially when auction values are mentioned. 2) That style of watch is really old-fashioned and the market is much smaller than the market for modern watches - so that definitely plays a factor. I'm not a watch guy and even though I think this watch is really beautiful... it just doesn't suit my tastes as a late thirties man.

I love the craftsmanship of these watches. I have no desire to buy an Apple watch! I like my breitling which I wear almost daily.

Wow I've 40 pocket watches and if this watch would sell at auction, I bet it would go for close to $50k. The combination of features is so rare that it would command a substantial price. The hands are gold and look proper to me. There's two other gold pocket watches for sale with just chimes on the 1/4 hours, and their each $24k, so I'd think a musical watch would bring substantially more.

what an amazing watch and family heirloom. would love to have something like that in my collection. and crazy to think its around 200 years old still looking that great.

I agree. These hands, whilst possibly gold, do not seem to match the overall quality of the watch and look to date to a later period of watch. The hands probably date from the 19th century, but the latter part I'd say. The original hands were likely either gold or blued steel in the 'Breguet' style. They would be much thinner/finer than those currently on the watch. I imagine the original hands were broken at some point and replaced, though not replaced well. If I were the owner, I would spend the time and money replacing these with hands more appropriate of the period, which can be tricky, but not impossible.
