Mortal Kombat is one of those games that helped popularize the concept of hidden content among fighting games, being the first ever game in the fighting genre to introduce secret characters.
In this list, I look into the most interesting secrets, easter eggs and references that appeared throughout the Mortal Kombat installments.

In MKX Johnny Cage references the first Mortal Kombat movie. In a match with Cage against Goro Cage will sometimes say “You still owe me for those sunglasses.” Which is referencing the scene in which Goro crushes Cage’s sunglasses in his hand.

Johnny Cage is reminiscent of Van Damme because the game was originally supposed to be a fighting game with Van Damme as the lead.

It's Mavado. I know he may have Kabal's signature weapons, but it's Mavado. You can watch Shaolin Monk's storyline to make sure.

How to get great nostalgia from Mortal Kombat: Choose Classic Scorpion vs. Classic Sub Zero in the Pit and you will get MK1 nostalgias... I swear that happened to me and I broke down to tears seeing how Mortal Kombat changed throughout the decades.

Another Easter egg: The name Noob Saibot is a reference to John Tobias and Ed Boon. 2 legendary names of Midway games. Notice that if you switch the last names of both Ed and john around, they spell Noob Saibot

There's a brutality of predator in which he self destructs killing the opponent which is a Easter egg to the movies last scene, and also Johnny cage will say " you threw me off the bridge " if the opponent is kano, and most of you have noticed that the heirloom kung Jin steals can be seen at the last scene of MK11

Because a lot of the stuff that he says ends of his videos totally incorrect. He calls kabal, Movado... He is wrong about the first Easter egg.... there are a thousand videos like this that were made years before this. I literally found an article that has everything that he just stated in it even the wrong information that kabal is Mavado.... All he is doing is reading an article from somebody else, he's a thief. He did absolutely no research by himself he's just trying to get views for somebody else's work. And he's wrong about half the shit that he's talking about

The first Mortal Kombat was supposed to be called Van Damme after John Claude Van Damme. It got changed Mortal Kombat because they wanted to go and more gory Road so yeah that's why Johnny Cage looks so much like John Claude Van Damme

There's only 2 secret charters you have missed male kameleon and female chameleon those two you have to go in to coding with to get them to be able to play with in the old mk I think it was mk 1 or mk 2 you do this with.... Plus there are more secret charters you missed that you have to mess in coding to find

Reason why Blood Sport is referenced is cause Mortal Kombat started as a Blood Sport video game. And thus Johnny is the first Mortal Kombat character as he was originally Van Dam in the game
