I've always just carried a capo around and quickly clamp it onto the fret mid song then unclamp when moving to a new chord. It's done very quickly and only for masters like myself.

I've always played x13331.. either way though agree that x12341 is limiting because all your fingers are tied down, you can't add on those pinky flourishes

I’ve been playing my movable A shapes like this for a long time, sometimes I just play x133xx or x144xx so I get a root 5th root power chord. I always thought I was cheating or playing a worse chord than the full shape.
