I am David welcome to my blog . Multitrack recording software is the best way and has the ability to record multiple audio tracks to hard disk one track at a time. This gives the music producer incredible power when working with a band or artist. You will be able to record one track at a time and do multiple takes until each musician has done their best take. For example , if a singer is struggling to hit a certain note , you can re-record that specific section again and again until the singer gets it right. This can be very useful.

What people don't realize is that any multitrack recording software that can render out multichannel tracks to multichannel waves files will allow you to insert your tracks into any software. You can start a song with one software on a PC and then finish the song with a different software on a Mac. It's about what suits your work-flow the best, once tracks are rendered to waves all software becomes interchangeable...

Good points...for myself, on PC, Cubase and Presonus Studio One, and on my Mac, Logic or Cubase. They eachg have advanatages/disadvantages, but they all get you wher you want to get to, if you put your mind to it. And you're right, music is music...so, don't blame the tools...like individuals, they have personalities of their own that you've got to get to know...then, when you do, you'll be too busy making music to blame the tools.

You are exactly right. Its all about the individual. I can buy a toyota corolla for 10k and another person may buy a Lexis for 20k; it will do the exact same thing. Its not about the software, its about the quality and time the musician puts into making their music. Thanks for replying.

@JSprayaEntertainment I'm not really into comparing different DAW's or plugins etc.. on youtube. I'm into advanced music production techniques. I go into specifics in my FREE ebook which you can get at my blog . My techniques you can use on any DAW or plugins. Most crap producers blame their gear when actually they dont know how to use their gear .

Reaper is arguably the best DAW, or one of the best. It's highly flexible and CHEAP, noncommercial licenses are 60 dollars and you get some upgrades with it too for a certain number of updates, I believe also with non-commercial you can pay 60 dollars if you also make less than 20k a year of your recordings, I might be wrong though, it may be it's own license, but it's also VERY affordable, and then there's the commercial one. The pricing is EXTREMELY fair, check it out.

Love your information; it is changing my whole outlook on my future home studio. Big question: Between ProTools, Logic and Cubase, which of these 3 do you believe that a newbie to this technology could learn in the quickest amount of time, sufficiently to lay down some quality, professional tracks ?

Im so sick of everybody talking about Pro tools, Logic Pro, Abelton and all of this industry standard stuff. Man, if you dont have the money then forget it! Mixcraft, Cakewalk, Ntrack, and many more are very fun, friendly, nice, and can do the same exact thing those $500 software can do. This is 2012, if you want to get serious with music, you can spend $2500 or lesser for a professional home studio.

A rant if I may. I'm a musician of 30+ years. I have noticed for many years. That sound engineers, weather it's for radio, TV, DVD's (it doesn't matter) want to enhance everything. That's their job. But what they don't realize is how much their background music can interfere with the subject of the media. I know a successful sound engineer will have very good hearing. So they don't realize when they have the background music, and sounds ect, so loud. That it interferes with the understanding of, what is being said in the commentary. By a person that is hard of hearing. It's not really their fault, but it is in a way. They have good hearing so they don't realize when they are doing it. They think everything is fine when in fact it's not. They want to get the attention of the audience, They are, but the wrong way. I myself have quit watching lots of movies, TV stations and shows and ( commercials which are a lot louder then the show it interrupts) for this reason. I've watched several of your video, and you are no exception. You need to pull down the volume of your background music in your video's. I do a little home recording and you can bet the background music will not interfere with the commentary

I'm trying to build a home recording studio. The first thing, is so frustrating to deal with computers (pcs) and hardware that could not be compatible. Such a headache. Then dealing with latency. Then dealing with memory capacity. I'm starting to believe that is better just to buy the recording tool like the Tascam DP24 where you don't need to take the crap of a PC and just get your job done. I just want to write and perform my own songs and I don't want to deal with stupid computer glitches.

@KidWuzi It's almost the same as Logic Studio from the looks of it. I think its fine to work with. I believe that most of the DAWs are much of the same these days. Use what suits you. I'm sure if you put me in front of that software, within three hours I'll have a killer tune. It's knowledge and talent that make a producer good not necessarily gear :-)

@DavidCamposComposer The "Help" indicates "If you have an external MIDI synthesizer then this will be your best option because the latency is likely to be very low and you will keep good synchronization between your MIDI clips and audio clips. If you do not have an external MIDI device then you can use the built in Microsoft synthesizer. Please note that the built in synthesizer has a significant lag which can make synchronisation difficult." Please translate?? How fix??

I`m interested to start recording at home, since i play guitar, i have all the equipment, amp, pedals, dynamic microphone, so i was looking for a good recording software, so then i could start learning and recording some backing tracks. May you give me any advice or what do you think it would be the best solution to start? I play mostly blues/ rock, any advice or opinion would be really appreciated. Thanks

Ableton, FL Studio, Cubase, Logic does pretty much the same job with different specs and workflows, to anyone who still thinks FL Studio sounds weak and cheap, get yourself a Waves EQ pack and open your ears. Same shit applies to any DAW that deals VSTs.

Way off... First of all, Pro Tools and Logic don't support VST. Each has its own plugin format. Second, he forgot to mention that Logic doesn't run on Windows. And third, if you're just getting started, consider the availability and price of entry-level versions. For Logic, the entry-level version is Garage Band (comes on every mac). For Cubase - there's "Cubase Elements" for under $100. On Windows, there's Sonar, with a $40 entry-level version (called "Cakewalk Music Creator"). Very weak video.
