Somthing I always love is when composers mix traditional instruments with unusual synth sounds. It's difficult to make it sound good, but when you have the finished product it's incredible.

He knew what he needed to do. He didn't want to do it. He wanted to be able to say that though he walked through the valley of the Shadow of Death, he feared no evil, but that was a lie. He knew it to be. The way his legs were shaking, the way his eyes widened, how every particle of his being told him he was going to *die* here, everything told him he should RUN. But he couldn't do that. Not with his sister back home, knowing he left to fight this war. For if there was one thing worth dying for in this godforsaken world, it was her. Her precious smile that he feared he'd never see again. He wasn't wrong. A swing, a parry, a dive and a roll. A shield, an arrow, the releasing of a soul. And there he lay, choking, spitting, gasping *dying* . He almost could laugh at how accurate his prediction was, but let's not give him too much credit. It was a loosing battle. Though they had let the kingdom survive another day, the army had not. He wished he could say the battle field was silent, but he couldn't. Desperate cries and screams wafted up from the remains of humanities fallen nature. Someone moved a little not ten feet from him, but he couldn't help them, even as they stilled. He couldn't even help himself. He looked up at the sky and hoped his sister found a way to be happy. Hoped the boy at the flower shop who had been giving her nervous, interested faces would make his move and treat her well. Hoped he was going somewhere nice after he died. Somewhere he could see his sister, somewhere he could be content. He gasped as he forgot to breathe. As his body refused to. The dirt was now mud, his blood tainting it. His helmet lay long forgotten next to him and he looked to the skies. For the skies were the only certain thing as of the moment, and he clung to it. Even as the color faded out of it, leaving behind grey and white, he clung to it. For it, the sun and stars was the only thing that hadn't abandoned him yet. A cough. A gasp -no. A agonized whine and then nothing. Nothing as the lonely seventeen-year-old soldier faded from time. Suffocating. Crying. Drowning in his own being. Soon, it wasn't even the sky he was seeing. The emptiness welcomed him, swallowed him whole. Thus concluded the tale of the Young Soldier with the Lonely, Shattered Soul. Edit: you know.... I think I have my next book idea from this little comment....

Alright, h is the next part of the story I’ve got going. As said before, feel free to offer criticism and any other feedback you might have. Btw, this was typed up at 9:30 at night sooo, it might get rough. Garreth felt a moment of panic. he thought. Moonstones were perishable only by using them up, and he had just done that. He turned and saw an elf sprinting at him with a longsword in hand. Garreth blocked the first blow with his bracer and drew his war sword from his back scabbard. The elf was just too agile and landed a blow on his thigh, which was thankfully protected by mail. Another elf entered his vision from the corner of his eye and he danced backwards, swinging his war sword to ward them off. He had reach as an advantage, but when against an elf’s agility, he knew he had little chance. Especially two elves. He continued in this fashion until there were five elves bearing down on him, each time he swung, deflected, or even occasionally landed a blow, he received one or more. Desperation was slowly setting in. He could feel the great blade getting heavier in hand as he grew tired. The cuts he received were draining his blood, and his head slowly started to feel light. Suddenly, a slight figure danced across his vision among his opponents. The elf girl was wielding a two handed messer, and she swung the blade into the neck of an elf. As the one fell, she ripped the blade out of his neck and stabbed a stunned on looker in the belly, piercing the chain mail. Garreth had to force himself not to stutter in his own attacks, and managed to cut into one of the shocked elves necks. This left him open though and he received a painful cut to his knee. He retreated from the elf to get some distance and recover, but soon wished he hadn’t. His opponent was charging, but behind him, the last elf and the girl were fighting, and she was not doing well. Garreth would not loose her too. The boy died, he failed that part of his plan, but he would not, could not, fail this part. He dropped the war sword and tackled the elf charging him before it could react. There on the ground, Garreth used his superior size and strength to beat the elf into a pulp. The girl screamed as he got back on his feet. He found her unarmed, left hand and arm bloody, and her assailant toying with her, hitting and kicking her instead of forcing her to submit or killing her. Garreth felt fear and hate mix up inside as he ran after her, ignoring his bodies protests. The elf noticed him and dodged his tackle with a grunt. Garreth slammed into a tree but stayed on his feet and turned to see the elf punch the girl who had appeared to have been trying to box him. Garreth roared and charged again, but it was for not, the elf expected these attacks, Garreth wasn’t quick enough, and the girl was struggling to get on all fours. Options were running short, as was strength, but not his will to win. He stopped attacking after receiving a few blows the only glanced off his armor, and smiled menacingly. Standing with his arms spread wide, and his smile, he awaited his attacker. The elf approached slowly, obviously suspicious, and once in reach, sung his blade quickly for Garreth’s neck. Garreth caught the blade in his gloved hand. The elf tried to pull it out, but didn’t have the strength. Garreth pulled the sword out of the elf’s hands and as the elf ran, he hurled the sword, point first like it was a spear, at its back. The creature dropped face down to the ground, a sword protruding from its neck. Garreth stumbled and fell back. He tried to reach for his medical pouch in his left pocket but he was losing control over his body. Then, thankfully, the girl’s face appeared above his own. “Left pouch… red vile,” he panted out. The girl scrambled for the vile and finally got it out. After drinking the vile, he wandered how she was able to bring herself to kill her own kind and asked, “What… who are you?” “Don’t worry about that now,” she told him, her voice sounded sweeter than he remembered, “just sleep,” she said, and downed his last red vile of healing potion. He wanted to know more. He wanted to stay awake and help get her to proper shelter. But all he could do was let the blackness close in.

Part 11: A Warden Falls 55 days before the Fall of Stormguard, Southern Wall Breach When the enemy first made it past the walls, they did so with a victorious roar rising from their ranks. Eckhart knew then the walls were lost, though neither him nor his brothers wished to admit it. Their blades still struck and the muzzles of their weapons still illuminated the smoke, but it was of no use. When the order to fall back came, it was not Eckhart who ushered it. It came from the Storm Bastion, from city command. The fight for the walls was over, and they had lost it. Though there was pain in his every movement, Eckhart dragged himself back into the city. His brothers all knew what came next, and they would need every capable soldier in the fight for the outskirts of the city. A fight that already started during their retreat. Eckhart's sword struck again and again, every time he met a foe in the narrow alleys or on the streets. He was wounded, he was tired and most of all he was angry. Angry at himself, for allowing the walls to fall. Angry at the 1st Lord-Captain, for ordering him away from the walls, and the death he should have died there. Angry at the foes for daring to trespass onto Imperial ground. That anger almost made him forget the pain. Almost. He was still slowed by it. Most foes were still unable to reach him, instead finding his sword buried in their neck or chest. Some did reach him, however, hell bent on dragging the Lord-Captain to his grave, to earn the glory of slaying the wall commander. Every time he met such foes, less and less of his brothers stood by his side, as they fell to the plague knives, chainaxes and bolters of the enemy. Every time, Eckhart was just that little bit slower, as exhaustion rapidly caught up to him. For three days they had held the walls, for three days they had fought and stood guard. For three days, the Lord-Captain had barely rested, only stepping away from the lines when the Apothecaries had dragged him behind them. And the lack of rest was taking its toll. He was alone now, moving towards the position he had marked for his company. Reports of other squads making it there started to trickle in through their own Vox channel. When he heard of those, a part of him felt relieved. Even if Eckhart died here, his brothers would keep fighting. Not that they were fighting to win, of course. They were fighting for time, for pride and simply because fighting was all they knew. His head jerked up when he heard the pavement behind him crack. A warrior, dressed in the red and brass of a Khorne Berserker extended his arm to point his weapon at the Lord-Captain. His allies had all stayed a few paces behind, as if to give the two warriors space for a duel. Eckhart straightened his back, though every cell in his body seemed to protest painfully to the motion. When his own sword rose to answer the challenge, the Berserker laughed. "So there's honour left amongst your chapter yet." The Berserker took a moment to observe his opponent. Eckhart couldn't help but notice that he was unusually calm for one of the followers of their so-called Blood God. When the Berserker spoke again, Eckhart almost thought he heard some respect bleed through into the words "You are the 2nd Lord-Captain, no? The Champion of Last Light? There's quite the reward for bringing your head back." He took a step forward "And if I don't claim it, the next one will. Or the one after that. It matters not, but they've given me the honour of duelling you-" Eckhart's blade lowered to a fighting stance, ready to strike forward. The Berserker saw this and laughed "Few words, ey? A man after my own hearts. I am-" "Shut up." It was almost a whisper, a sound drowned out by the pained yell of the Berserker as Eckhart's sword pierced his chest. The ones behind their leader fell silent for a moment, before yelling their warcries and charging forward, ready to claim Eckhart's skull for their god. Eckhart himself made no attempt to fall back, he simply braced himself and answered their own cry with one of their own, not out of bravado or to raise morale. He was ready to die, but he would not shame the chapter. The battlecry was to drown the pain, to stoke the fires of rage in him one last time. He struck the first three down before they even finished their heretical battlecries. The fourth ducked under his first strike, but Eckhart's knee shattered his face. It wasn't the first time the Lord of the 2nd found himself chastising his foe for failing to wear a helmet. The fifth found his ribs shattered by a heavy mace, wielded by a warrior in the purple of the wardens, while the sixth was blown apart by a plasma gun fired from amongst the buildings. Eckhart spat a curse "Varrash, you were supposed to go east, not here!" The Overseer laughed as his Wardens started a desperate struggle against the enemies before them. Unlike his normal laugh, it was a cold and humourless sound "After learning you were still out here? Not a chance, you'd steal all our glory and then die far before your time." The tides quickly turned on the Wardens. Chainaxes tore through power armour and left many of them dead in the wake of the Berserkers. The Wardens were formidable warriors, but there was only so much they could do against these foes with only combat knives, especially at a range where it did not matter whether you fired a boltshell or struck with a melee weapon. Astartes were fast after all, and these Berserkers had been denied their fill of blood for three days. In the end, four of the twenty Wardens made it back to their fall back point. They dragged two men with them. Eckhart, struggling against the three warriors trying to drag him away from the enemy, roaring like some kind of wounded animal. And the reason the Lord-Captain had fallen into this frenzy. The cold lifeless body of their Overseer, Varrash. The man who had saved Eckhart's life time and again. The friend who had stood with him, even more so than some of his brothers even. As they moved back through the lines, the sounds of battle faded into the distance, the rage in the Lord-Captain's mind slowly started to fade away, replaced by grief and the sense that he had lost something that he could never regain. As he stared at the lifeless body of his friend, he couldn't quite believe what he saw. He almost expected him to jump back up with that smile on his face, like he'd always worn in life. He felt a drop of blood running down his cheek, but when he wiped it away he found there was no red staining his gauntlet, like it should. To his surprise, he noticed that he was crying. Astartes were not supposed to cry, they were weapons. They killed, until the inevitable moment they themselves were killed. Varrash had been like that, a sword against the darkness. He had been loyal, dutiful, ferocious... but another word came to Eckhart's mind. It was a whisper, not heard by anyone save the Lord-Captain himself and the Wardens that still surrounded him. "He was my friend..."

But yet, whenever he comes back when the date arrives, he just stands and stares. "There she is", the man said to himself as he looks at a car with a female passenger in it. He places a single white lily on the edge of the cliff and turns, with tears running down his face. As the sounds of a loud crash can be heard, the man just quietly says, "Goodbye, Larissa.
