Typical trumpet video...
Features Brian MacDonald, Kevin Burns, William Ward, Derek Watkins, Adam Rapa, Josh Kauffman, Jon Faddis, Louis Dowdeswell, Andrea Tofanelli, and Wayne Bergeron.
None of the clips are my own. I will happily reply with a link to the original video if asked for in the comments!

Half the time you can’t hear it and the feeble bleat is the only evidence they’ve tried something. For extra points make the squeal a minor 2nd, 2nd, minor 3rd, third, fourth, augmented fourth, fifth, diminished sixth, sixth, flattened seventh, or seventh. As long as it’s high and vulgar it doesn’t matter what role the note has or is supposed to have.

Thank you Leo, you made a very nice collection of fragments with just enough building up to the extreme upper trumpet parts, so that you can really enjoy these climaxes . Many compilations on KZfaq only include the high notes, over and over until you (at least I) get tired of it and even begin to dislike that sound. Just a question: I recognize almost all of the players or clips, only the fragment starting at 7:20 is new to me. What band is that? Maybe with Josh (Joshua?) Kauffman? Because that's the only trumpet player in the description that I don't know of.
@LeoHuangNZ
@LeoHuangNZ Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I got tired of seeing the same clips over and over in trumpet high note videos being recommended to me so I thought why not make one that has some less seen clips? And It's true that a lot of the high note compilations on KZfaq tend to only show the screeching and not the build up - context is important. I don't blame people who see those videos and get turned off on the idea of playing high. At 7:21 is Joshua Kauffman with the University of North Texas One O' Clock Lab Band. The video is 6 years old and Josh has since moved on to play in the US Army Band where he is absolutely nailing lead trumpet in the big band!
@wim0001tube

@@LeoHuangNZ Thanks for the quick response! I already guessed it would be Joshua Kaufmann, but I was more interested because of the total sound of that band (the style of the chart they play - another guess: Alan Baylock?). Kenton camp 1977. Was talking to some cat who was in Kenton's section. Cannot remember his name but he had been on the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis band and he said it took TWO cats to play lead chair that Faddis had just vacated! Faddis was the baddest LEAD player on the planet in the 70's .

I've included quite a few different styles here in the video. Some aren't super high. However, the energy and tone is there and they are fufling their role of lead trumpet. On the other hand, some parts are ridiculously high like Jon Faddis in 'Groovin' High' but it's not lead trumpet.

I agree that screaming isn't the most musical. There's a time and place. However, it's supposed to be exciting and impressive as few can do it properly. Nothing is better than a big band holding the last chord in the piece and the lead trumpet rips it up an octave.
