I am somewhat amazed at the number of current rally cars that apparently do not seem to have CLOSE RATIO STEERING RACKS. As an ex Rally and Rallycross driver,Way back when in today's terms, My Ford Escort Mk1, and indeed the Ford Anglia 105E that preceded it had CLOSE RATIO STEERING RACKS FITTED They make so much difference to the ability to get into, and out of opposite lock situations with precision,, rather than the driver having to grab handfuls of lock in all directions just to get the vehicle stable again. I am sure that some of the vehicles shown in this video did have close ratio racks, but in particular the sequences "in car" showed the driver having to make 2 1/2 turns of lock. Crazy. My cars had steering racks that used about a 1 1/2 turns maximum, which allowed far more precise control of the car in slides etc Just a thought, have the more modern people forgotten of such easy"tricks" ? I realise that the 4 wheel drive vehicles do not need this as much, but it would still certainly help more precise positioning and easier recovery from unusual attitudes. Maybe I am just old fashioned,but back in the mid 1970's, most rally and rallycross cars had close ratio steering racks fitted, and if they didn't, they were basically left in the dust, as fishtailing under power wastes energy and looses time, which is after all what it is all about ?
