I’m Australian. I have said for many years now that Richie McCaw is the greatest ever National Captain of ANY sport ever played.

Not just an exemplary player but a fantastic human being. When it comes to mental strength, toughness, dealing with adversity and bouncing back from tough moments in life, Richie is my personal barometer. The man knows what it takes to reach the doldrums and recover - even when injured. A legend but more importantly, a role model.

Maybe the younger kids at Otago Boys looked up to him in the late 1990s. And perhaps a fan or two of the NZ Schools team. But he didn't make his All Blacks debut until 2001...

@@troyb1278 Well, he’d have to become leader of a political party to become PM, so the people would also have to vote for his party...Do you really want him to lead the Nats, the Reds or the Greens? Not saying he couldn’t, but it’s dirty work, deal-making, back scratching, bare faced lie, etc etc... I think a better position would be something like Gov-General, it’s non-political, non-partisan, and none of the back scratching and back stabbing we see in politics.

This guy and Dan Cater together are simply unstoppable one leading the forwards and one leading the backs they are the Goats in their position! NZ rugby is just to good though we finished this 2022 year in 3rd place on the rankings as the worse team in NZ history we will be back at number one mark my words!!

When I think of Richie the image I get is him flying into a ruck from the side of the TV screen to secure what would have been a turnover by completely disregarding his body. Hitting it at absolute full pace.
