Many people just remember that missed penalty from the '94 World Cup and let it define Baggio. They are very wrong though as Baggio was majestic, a real superstar, and he did everything he did with practically only one knee! He broke his right knee extremely badly when he was 18 years old and still managed to become the best player on the planet. Briefly but he still did it! Baggio is my all time favourite italian footballer alongside with Paolo Maldini. The '94 WC was the first one I saw live and Baggio is one of the 4 names I remember the brightest from that tournament alongside with Romario, Gheorghe Hagi and Hristo Stoichkov.

Old school football was so pure. Today’s players are much better athletes but older generations were talent and class of a pure footballer.

To be fair to Baggio, Baresi and Massaro had both missed their penalties as well and so even if Baggio had scored his, Brazil still would have won with their next penalty.

You should have mentioned he had a muscle injury in the semi-final and had to play with strapping in the final and was not his normal self. If it was not a WC final he would have been out injured. Such a shame.

The roughly 10 mintues from Baggios first goal vs Bulgaria till his 2nd was the best display of offensive beauty that I've ever seen from the Italian national side. Bob Ley who was calling the game on ESPN said at one point "what magic from the Azzurri." That was after I believe Donadoni hit the post and Albertini had a nice chip shot that Mihaylov just tipped over the crossbar.
