Absolutely correct - either pass it by several car lengths or stay completely behind it. Another tip, never pull up beside a semi on your left at a traffic light, these things sometimes require 2 lanes to turn right and won’t see you because you’re in his blind spot. Rule of thumb - if you can’t see the driver in HIS mirrors, he CANNOT see you.

Not a big deal with typical trucks. I only worry about fuel and chemical tankers, and weird looking loads. Of course, mind the blind spots. Keep in mind that on average, more trucks have dash cams than passenger cars. So always an abundant supply of spectacular crash videos.

No point in the cops doing anything about it cause the liberal left set them free or do not want to do anything about it. Always said today if someone wrecks solo not involving me or others and driving very aggressive I will not stop. They want to drive like a idiot so they can call for help themselves or die. @bobinthewest8559
@bobinthewest8559 24 күн бұрын
@@AlphaHumphrey… ABS actually INCREASES your stopping distance. Its purpose is to allow you to steer while braking hard. It does this by intermittently RELEASING brakes at alternating wheels (in rapid succession), which means it will take longer to actually stop. With or without ABS… stopping within that distance, was entirely impossible.
@Firedrake1313
@Firedrake1313 24 күн бұрын
@@bobinthewest8559. ABS works by keeping the brakes just below the limit of where the wheels would lock. the system varies a bit between makes and some are adjusted to also allow for steering. But in general with VERY few exceptions it's going to be the shortest distance you can stop the car. Locking the wheels and sliding takes lots more room AND means you can't steer. The pickup might have made it if he hadn't braked at all (or hit the accelerator) but there's no possible way for him to have stopped except for driving correctly (not speeding, looking for cross traffic) in the first place. ABS brakes better than any person ever could and it will save your life.

Moral of the story: 5000lb car vs 80,000lb truck, car loses every time.
@Asheface11
@Asheface11 23 күн бұрын
As far as damage is concerned, absolutely. But a good proportion of these clips show the trucker at fault. Truckers are supposed to have a lot more training than the average non-commercial driver, yet treat the road as if they’re driving a 5000lb vehicle. Professional drivers should do better. I know a guy that’s been driving for 30 years with close to 3 million miles driven without an “accident”. His explanation: “I always drive in the middle lane, and always let people in my lane because I don’t take it personally”. Check your ego truckers, drive like a professional, not the average car driver.

One thing this video taught me was why truck driving has a 110% turnover rate because there are a lot of class A commercial dudes here who do not know how to drive. They see turn signals and just decide they're not moving out the way even if doing so is going to cause an accident, then there's dudes who are clearly distracted, on their phones, eating whatever who clip guys in their blind spots despite having hood mirrors that would've easily shown them a vehicle was there. There was a tv show called Canada's Worst Driver, very educational, in it there was a woman who thought that everyone just hit stuff. It never occurred to her to look and make sure. When she found out that the overwhelming vast majority of drivers don't hit objects while they drive it blew her mind. So, I guess the answer to your question is: probably.

@@nymalous3428 I'm Canadian too, I loved that show, never missed a season. I always found it interesting when they'd have really aggressive drivers on that loved to tail gate mixed with drivers who drove too slow because they were scared of everything on the road. The aggressive drivers would then get to know the scared drivers better and actually start to feel bad about trying to intimidate so many on the roads and promise to change their ways. I wish it was still on. It was the one Canadian show where you weren't proud if someone from your province or home town was on it.

It’s just an attempt (fishing) to find some way to push some of the blame onto the victim. You’ve seen it on trucks I’m sure… “Lights on for safety”. So if he says, “no, my lights weren’t on.”, the insurance company will say that he didn’t “do everything possible” to prevent an accident. That’s why I never drive with my lights off… unless I intend to hit someone and need the element of surprise 😉😂😂

Sad waste either way because if he'd gunned it, even after slowing; he may well have survived with injuries as the semi would have clipped his tailgate, putting him in a spin and flipping the truck, but not obliterating the entire cab.

Our local state fair or what we call the Royal Show here in Perth we had a VR headset experience in the back trailer of a large truck that have been converted for the event the whole VR experience was teaching us how much the truck can see and what the truck needs to turn I had no idea a truck had that many blind spots there were so many things that the truck just could not see it was teaching us everything we needed to know about a truck to be safe around a truck

Dr. Phil surprised me … that’s one philosophical, contemplative trucker right there. It amuses me to picture a morally upstanding trucker crossing the country while shaking his head at young Amber’s third unintended pregnancy or unemployed Bobby’s slot machine addiction. 🤷‍♂️
