How’s it going Bryan? I’m from upstate NY, born and raised in the Catskills! Mafia history and and lure have always been a part of NY history a part of the Catskills where I grew up and still live. I loved seeing and hearing you talk about Sammy. It’s funny because you talk about the way he tells a story , the way you felt and told that is exactly how I feel about him and the mafia. I started watching his channel almost from the beginning, before the podcast series started. Oh man I would love to spend a day with Sammy!! What an experience you must have had, I’m sure you loved personally meeting him and spending the day with him. It’s really ironic that now he’s seen like a celebrity is seen. I haven’t missed a video since I subscribed and watched all the videos that I had missed before subscribing and every time I say hello to him , ask him how how he’s doing and comment on the video. I get alot of replies from people basically pissed at me for saying nice things about a killer. They don’t understand the difference between appreciating the opportunity to listen to one of the few pieces of living history. And a history that is ingrained in many people who grew up in different parts of NY. And I guess it’s a matter of perspective that some just don’t see. Through the Great Depression the mafia played a huge role in keeping the city alive and helped many who would have lost literally everything and starved if not for the mafia. They may have dealt outside the law but mainly hurt or killed people within the organization or that had dealings with it. Our government caused the depression and has sent countless brave Americans to their deaths and worse in many wars that were simply over a political agenda, land or resources and lied to the American public to gain support selling it as keeping Americans safe, while causing conflict in countries we didn’t belong in. Causing a hatred of Americans in many countries around the world! Putting Americans, innocent civilians at greater risk in many places in the world and in our own country. The attacks on 9/11 are a direct cause of the government creating a deep seeded hatred for Americans, or were directly responsible in order to gain support to invade more countries!! We’ll never know the truth, but thousands of Americans were killed that day and the country hasn’t been the same since. Many say, oh you can’t compare the two. The comparison is so many see the mafia as brutal criminals, Our government is far worse!! They steal and manipulate and kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people who have done nothing but defend our country and fight for what they believe is our freedom. And in some cases it was but for far more it wasn’t. They were used as pawns in a political game. The Level of corruption and mistrust of our hired officials that are paid by the American people has never been higher!! Our own divided government has divided the country and caused more hatred and problems than the mafia ever could have. Their organized crime on a large scale and do it legally because they make the laws and get paid to do it. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer and the division between classes is further apart than ever! I’d take living with the mafia any day over what our government does to its own people. Even our veterans who lay their lives on the line and show their loyalty to the government get treated like trash and discarded when their done with them and their of no use to them any longer. A man like Sammy had solid principles and a loyalty that most can’t imagine! It was only when the thing he gave his life to , turned on him and stabbed him in the back, when he felt betrayed that he decided enough was enough! Most will tell you he killed 19 people , if he didn’t pull the trigger himself, which he didn’t in most cases. He orchestrated the killing. Most anyone on the planet even convicted of one murder would do a long sentence in prison but the government makes deals and they were willing to forgive everything just to be able to arrest most of the key people in the families, basically using created laws to end the mafia as it was known. So they could conduct their own crooked business as usual and try and look good in the process. Protecting the citizens from these thugs who basically killed themselves and helped many in their neighborhoods and were a minimal threat to everyday citizens. NYC cabs kill more innocent people than the mafia ever did. I’m not glorifying or condoning the actions of the mafia, only making comparisons to put it in a better perspective. I know there’s people who strongly disagree but there’s also many who don’t! I’m sure you can see both points. Anyway it must have been something to hear some stories and get to know Sammy in person. I’m sure you have different opinion after spending some time with him. He’s personally responded to me a couple of times and I was suprised and honored that he would take the time to read my comment and reply to me. I have asked many times if he could share any stories he may have about upstate, NY or the Catskills , but I’ve yet to hear any or get a response on that. Maybe someday. No doubt he’s a character and I like him as the person I see and hear on KZfaq and I appreciate him sharing his life stories with his subscribers or anyone who listens. It’s a unique opportunity to hear about these things that you could only hear from him. Things that are a permanent part of history of a time so many don’t even know about and as time goes on, they will have to watch a movie or look it up on the internet or maybe read a book. But all too soon there will be no one left like Sammy to give first hand knowledge of how it really was. Your fortunate to get to spend the day and make A friend with a living piece of history and an interesting human being!! Thanks again for sharing your experience.
