i got most of my old disc games , getting some of them to work on a modern system is hit and miss though. glide wrapper helps alot as does Dos Box but even then quite a few of them don't recognize modern video cards so have to run software mode.

Totally. I think the first Civilization game fit on like 2 diskettes or something. Which is insane since it actually had some serious depth to it. Or the old Defender of the Crown for the C64, which fit on one of the old diskettes (the kind with a hole in the middle which had even less memory) - and what an awesome game that was.

The 90s was incredible for gaming, amusement parks and just general fun. Kids still played outside, rode bikes, wrote letters and played many different games. Random CD games and demos were in cereal boxes. I won't ever forget watching my dad play the original "Alone in the Dark" pc game when I was like 3 or 4 years old. Never been more terrified in my life, used to run away when it got too scary for me. Looking back at the game, it is a bunch of pixels. Hard to explain but so thankful for my happy childhood and these gaming memories. :)

@@alanfrost75 The 80s was revolutionary for desktop & mobile computing (compaq luggages & lunchboxes), and colored monitors & applications other than green. It is also known for memory & storage evolution, the explosion of office automation & productivity tools & softwares other than microsoft or apple, ai like prolog on desktops, and database builders, compilers & RADs. @@alanfrost75 Games are supposed to be fun and most are arcade-like & blocky even in other platforms. Games like load runner, prince of persia, space invaders or tetris did not require much learning. Our workstation is also our gamestation during off hours bec it's costly to own an XT or AT or even a clone Compaq back then. Games are suppose to relieve us of stress and not stressful themselves though one needs time to figure out ancient art of war or fly an attack helicopter sim. As hardware progressed so did gaming complexity & graphics. That happened in the 90s.

This brings back some memories. I was actually on one of our local television news broadcasts playing Asteroids way back in 1979. I had gotten to the point where I really had no idea how many ships I had accumulated since only 69 fit across the top but I'm certain I had hundreds since I could quit playing, go to the bathroom and grab some food and then return to the game after maybe 10 minutes and the screen still showed ships all the way across. There was no pause button. The longest I ever played one game was a little over 14 hours straight at which point I gave the machine to another kid who was watching me play. I always tried to do that because I remembered how many quarters I had pumped into the machine before I got good and I wanted to make it a little less costly for the new players. It's funny that the guy who set the world record was from the same place I was, Salt Lake City. He played for around 28 hours if I remember correctly. Thanks for the video.

Was far more into Commodore in the 80's but PC games still had their moments. 90s PC gaming had some of my greatest gaming moments by far. Prince of Persia, Space Quest IV, Doom, and yes The Oregon Trail(don't laugh) really blew open the door for me in PC gaming. Was just finishing High School. Afterwards it was giant mech games and RPG's. I over a dozen mech games and still missed out on some. MechWarrior 3, Starsiege, Shattered Steel, Heavy Gear 2, etc. Baldurs Gate II, Icewind Dale, Final Fantasy VII, were favorite RPGs of mine. Will not forget Dark Forces Ii:Jedi Knight which lived up to the hype probably more than any other game I have ever played. Mostly do retro gaming now. They just don't make games like this anymore and unfortunately too many of them won't run on Windows 10.

Played most of them. I think I have spend most of my time with Bundesliga Manager Professional and BM97, Civilization 2, Star Craft, Diablo 1&2, Command and Conquer. Commandos was also a really nice game. Half Life was a blast when you first played in Software grafics and then you got a Vodoo card. My first online game was TFC, mod of HalfLife and we got nation wide third place and second in Europe.

Commandos, said to be one of hardest game when it came out. A question though. Do you do the normal tactic (whatever that means) of the hard way, or do you also do some kind of cheating/cheesing (which I consider it to be) of how I did it? What I meant by cheating/cheesing, when I just want to get the stage over with, I either, 1. Command several soldiers at once. Hide behind a building. Fire a gun. Then kill every nazis that come that way. This makes patrolling nazis meaningless. And you can also pretty much wipe out a whole garrison of nazis coming out from the swastika building (they seems to replenish after certain time, but it's not unlimited wave after wave - i.e. they stop). This makes you clear the objective without any interference. 2. Blow up the swastika building (not objective building) with a spare bomb/grenade or by blowing up a vehicle next to it, which makes nazis have no reinforcements.

@@andrewyp6724 I assume you're talking about Commandos behind enemy lines (cmmds 1), it's the hardest of the franchise (along side Commandos beyond call of duty). There is no "normal tactic" as you can play using the tactic you want. Also doing what you said (shooting with everyone at one enemy, and blowing garriaons or prisions with trucks) is not considered cheating as the game allows you to do so. I tend to use those both as well as killing the enemies with the green beret's knife, the marine's arpoon, or the machine-gun that the driver carries. The bear teap is fun to use as well. You should also try the other commandos games: Beyond call of duty is the expansion of Behind Enemy lines, it is the hardest of the whole franchise (and characters have more actions to do) but it cames with just 8 missions (plus the commandos 1). Commandos Men Of Courage (cmmds 2) is my favorite game, it has better graphics and you can do more actions with your characters. It's a bit shorter and easier than Commandos 1 so I recommend you to play it in the hardest mode. But it's pretty fun to play, I personally tend to clear the maps by stealth (punching and gagging the enemies, and i almost never shot any gun except when the mission requires you to do so). Then Commandos Destination Berlin (cmmds 3) is the worst of them all. It's TOO short (you can clear the game in half a day) and the tactical strategy of previous games is lost here. I managed once to beat the last mission by using only an alied soldier, I didn't even touched the Green Beret. But commandos 1 and 2 are awesome games, and they are fan to play even today. But you should download or buy a version that allows you to play on widescreen if you have a modern computer. There is also Commandos destination Paris which is a fan-made game that uses commandos 2 engine, it has like 300 missions to play (but i recommend you beating cmmds 2 first before trying the fan-made game). You should be careful from where you download Destination Paris as it can contain a trojan virus. Please excuse my english, as it's my second language.

ouch man .. PII 233 and a voodoo was old by the time that game released in 1999. i built my first pc then too but it was a bit newer hardware (albeit on a budget) played the game on a Slot -A AMD Athlon Thunderbird at 650 mhz with a geforce 2 ultra (the first PC i built). originally to cut cost when i first built it i had an older tnt 2 ultra on it. but only took me two weeks of work to afford the Geforce 2 ultra. two years later i upgraded the video card again as well as the CPU , got a Geforce 4 4400 TI and for CPU i got a 850 mhz Thunderbird. EDIT: god damn miss that PC . i gave it to my bro and some 3 years later (2003) the PSU fried on it which killed all but the processor on the system.
