I was admitted to all the S-Tier schools for my Online Masters CS degree. I ultimately chose Illinois though as I prefer Coursera over edX (though both are quire similar). UT Austin has some awesome courses on edX like the linear algebra course and embedded systems courses that are very well taught. Georgia Tech has a lot of nice courses on edX as well. Illinois is mainly on Coursera's platform.

My only problem with this list is that Georgia Tech's cost makes it so far and head of all it's competitors that going anywhere else for an online masters in CS really doesn't make sense as a value proposition unless your employer is paying for it.

One minor gripe: It would be an extremely good idea to add the names of the programs covered to the show notes for quick review afterwards. Otherwise, this an excellent video that tipped me- and likely several others- off to several programs I otherwise wouldn't have considered, thanks for uploading! :)

Maybe you should do a video about the best online MSCS for non-CS majors. As non-CS majors, we hope the programs cover foundation courses. I like UPENN's program. Any similar programs?
@willelliottYT
@willelliottYT 2 жыл бұрын
I come from a non-CS background and chose the Illinois MCS. I’m guessing most people in the UTA, Illinois MCS, and OMSCS come from a non-CS background. I think the foundations are better learned elsewhere than a masters program. Consider taking the math, OOP, algorithms and data structures from a local community college - it would be cheaper.

I... Did not even know NJIT had an online MSCS program... And like, I went to and enjoyed going to that school (Like, I'm 6 years graduated and I would still use that school's new gym and I still do the game dev stuff like Global Game Jam since my undergrad)
@FF18Cloud
@FF18Cloud 2 жыл бұрын
Fyi, game dev isn't offered, ... Yet... As far as I know, in a master's program at NJIT, and especially in their CS program Just, talking about the little rivalry between majors, Game dev is offered in their Information Technology degree, It is a heavy programming specialization with recommendations for discrete math that's available in the BS CS program at NJIT But it is not a CS program. You have an engine modification class (C and C++ modding quake 2 and quake 4) 2D game engines class using cocos2D and C A 3D game engines class also using Chipmunk (this might have been updated) and C VR/AR and Game AI was also something taught in that IT Program. This was because of some weird legacy thing in their CS/IT colleges that "gaming is below them" even though CS students take game dev courses all the time there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyways, that's just me talking as an NJIT grad for my BS back in 2016

@@willelliottYT Thanks for your response! I’m looking into starting an online MS in CS and trying to find the best option from the many options available. I don’t have a CS undergrad degree, but I’ve taken Intro CS (Java), Data Structures and Algorithms, Full Stack Web Development (Django), and Systems Programming and Machine Organization from accredited universities. I was a statistics major in college and am also working in a programming role currently. I’ve narrowed it down to OMSCS, UIUC, and Johns Hopkins MS CS-with OMSCS and UIUC I’m worried I don’t have the expected background knowledge to do well in the program. Those two are cheaper and have relevant course offerings, so I’d prefer to go if I have the background.

@nerdboy4242

Oh wow.. I think you may be mistaken by your facts. UPENN MCIT is not a MOOC based program AT ALL and is relatively cheap. During the first semester, the program was on coursera because they had not set up canvas but now everything is on canvas . I am in the program and although they do record all lecture they still have live class twice a week . They also have opportunities to go to campus for career fairs and to meet professors. I actually believe based on the criteria that you used for all of the other programs that it should be higher on the list . The only down side is that the electives are not as robust as other programs and that you must take bridge courses since this is targeted toward non traditional CS students.
