I went through a TON of plate carriers the last few years... AC1 from trex arms, 3 JPC2s from Crye (First one I destroyed and had to toss lol), Agilities K19, HRT RAC, a Slickster and a few others. Honestly, the JPC was great and is still one of my favorites. I still have 2 of them as backups, one with the avs1000 replacing the rear plate bag. They're great little plate carriers, I'd go swimming, do rucks, no complaints other than the shoulder straps... I forget what the fuck the material is called. But on my first one, I got a little tear and it failed pretty quickly afterward. Probably overloaded it as well lol. But anyway, I eventually moved onto an AVS last year and I seriously can't stress how much better the AVS is than everything else I've used. It's really not a "omg I spent so much money so it has to be good" kind of thing. If it sucked I would say it sucked. But I love the harness system and it's been really durable. It's been literally abused, and it's still going great. No tears, no holes. I've been dragged with it, and I've dragged people in it as well (I run some tubular nylon through the molee in the back as a DARC strap). I'm running some ceramic l4's w/ backers no issue. I did have some phokus trauma pads in there. Which I'll probably put back at some point... BUT I seriously can't reccomend the AVS enough. The AVS padded shoulder straps from Crye are actually really good as well. I've never had any hotspots or issues doing any rucks they are super comfy and cheap too, only like $30.

This is weird to say, but I liked the standard plate carrier. I felt reasonably protected with it. I am a big guy, so I didn't mind the weight. That being said, I am currently looking for something a little lighter and more breathable. But I don't want an absolute minimal carrier. There are so many options nowadays, it's hard to really choose. So far, I am probably going to go with Shellback, but it's still a tough choice.

Personally, I rock a Crye Precision JPC 2.0 for Military use. Didn't ask my command team for permission, just did it. No one said shit about it.

I own 2 Agilite K19, they are pretty good and comfortable. I recently ordered Velocity System Scarab LT and Crye Precision AVS + Harness, to compare. Did not received them yet, so I can share my comments later on. The only downside I see with the K19 is with the quick release on the shoulder while having the buttstock on the shooting position.

Bought one & (2) Spartan Level 4 plates + Trama pads. Under that is the VTAC Battle belt/suspenders.

Why is an active duty guy getting a Gen II IOTV while a national guard POG like me is getting a brand new unissued IOTV Gen IV. No seriously what kind of unit are you in to get such old equipment. Every guardsmen I know has been issued a better newer IOTV then you.

Is the first body armor heavier that the one issued by the US Army? Looks like the first one weights 8.5lbs and the second one 3.5lbs. Is that correct?

Civilian here, Im gonna get one of these for my home, should i get and run side plates? Not sure what i should do there lol
@lifeofschmelly
@lifeofschmelly 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a personal choice, in my opinion side plates won’t do much for at home. Typically if you encounter a threat at home and you have time to grab body armor, the threat will be in front of you and not attacking from the sides

I wouldnt run side plates unless you build a super lightweight carrier system…or if your going to be in a warzone. Even then most dont use them because of how they hinder mobility

I maybe late but from personal experience dont run Side Plates if your planning to have a lot of mobility they will chafe and sometimes jab your sides if they arent low enough theyre only for extra protection I was told to wear them because people have died from exposing their sides in combat but overall its best to run without them unless you really feel you need the extra weight and protection anyways like Schmelly said in a Home defense you most definitely don't need them, even on Deployment we don't wear them

I’m a civilian as well, I run side plates in mine for home defense it’s really you’re choice and what you want it for. Like mentioned if you want maximum mobility it’s best not to run them but personally i choose to run them for extra protection over faster mobility

I thought I read somewhere that this carrier will also fit 11x14 plates. Does that seem right or does it list the options on it?

Yo i am a former Infantry Staff Sergeant with 3 combat deployments. Please read this and take it seriously. Your IOTV setup is legit like the worst setup i have ever seen. Could it possibly be any bulkier 😂 And man you chose a horrible plate carrier. That thing is bulky as hell too, modern plate carriers weigh less than 2lbs, mine less than 1lbs. Also the reason you cant use your plate carrier is because you dont have soft armor to fit behind the plate. The big army doesnt issue stand alone plates. They require a level 3A backer to work properly. And pelase for the love of god, dont use steel plates. They dont work at all against any penetrators...aka M855 and M855a1 the rounds you are issued. And even against ball rounds, the spalling will kill you. Do not use non issued plates that arent NIJ Level 4 certified

The Kevlar in IOTV Gen 1 to 3 is not 3A. 3A will stop 44 Magnums snd 357 Magnums. Point Blank use it in law enforcement rigs. The Kevlar in gen 1 to 3 IOTVs wiĺ stop fragmentation and if you're lucky 9mm. Just saying the 3A issue disallowing plate carriers is bunk cause most IOTVs do not contain 3A, either.
