i was flying my fpv 250 and an officer came up to me, started asking questions because he was interested. i then hooked up a spare set of goggles i have to mine, and got him to put them on, and let him see what i saw. that day i got another person into the hobby.

I let an officer wear my goggles on a flight; told him to hold on to my tailgate. He wondered why, until I started banking, and he started leaning a bit too far. Disoriented for a few seconds, and then laughed.

Snipe Stud00 I love to go flying with my racing mates, but I also bring along friends who don’t know this exists. I let them have a spare set and I once used a second controller in trainer mode to let them fly for a sec. the best reactions are from people who get easily motion sick, don’t like upside downs, don’t like heights or don’t like flying.

Ahh this feels nice. Every now and then I have an encounter with the police too. Not because someone called them but because they just passed by and saw me flying. They always show great interest in my hobby so I'm more than happy to give them a ride along with a spare fatshark. Yea I've had my fair share of cops going "HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THIS", "WHOA THAT'S AMAZING" and "I WANT ONE TOO!" Best. hobby. ever. Let's fly together some day, man!

No, that's the scandinavian peninsula. In the english language the Scandinavian Peninsula is just called "Scandinavia", but the actual Scandinavia doesn't include Finland. Similar to most (if not all) encounters I've had in NL. They are mostly just curious and sometimes fancy a ride-along. As long as you behave and respect the environment, there's really no fuzz. (Schiphol CTR being the exception perhaps because of all the media)

My ex's dad is a cop, and he told me to always keep my answers as short as possible, and if at all uncomfortable say nothing at all. Their trick is to always seem like its just casual conversation and very friendly and just asking questions, but they are in uniform which means they are on the clock and they are really trying to determine if there is anything they can catch you for that's illegal, because that's literally their job. They were just buttering him up first to get him to volunteer information that he was doing something illegal, like flying above legal limits, flying beyond visual range (illegal), or spying on people.

I do not know what country you are from, but the police here does not work like that. Besides, there is no official drone regulation yet out here and so it is only possible to fine someone if they either catch him doing it or if there was a report.
@davids
@davids 6 жыл бұрын
+DumbDuck44 On the other hand. They can only fine you when they have seen you break the law with their own eyes. These officers were just striking conversation, which is a good thing. They need to be on people's good side.

The police... dont start. I was beaten up by a group of muslims for being gay: tried to file a report three times; it was refused three times, because they thought 'it would never end in a conviction, so it is a waste of time'. I was bleeding for hours. I broke my foot. They acted as if nothing had happened. The third time I DEMANDED them to file a report. They refused again, and actually threatened to arrest me for WASTING POLICE TIME. I am not allowed to protect myself. And the police is not protecting me. The police is only there to keep me from protecting myself. FUCK the police. FUCK them. The only good cop, is a DEAD cop.

Matches my experience too. When an officer comes by it's often just curiousity about what you fly and maybe also try to see if you know what you are doing. A few times a police man asked to show a few moves, like flying around and landing. A while ago I was flying with a collegue, and we let the officer have a look through my collegues goggles when I was flying. He was amazed by the image quality despite the quad being a very small one (95 size) and how silent it was. As long as you don't harass people and respect the environment, I think most will see you are just a guy having fun in a responsible way, and not a threat, as some tend to make FPV pilots appear to be.

Is de politie in Nederland eigenlijk wel op de hoogte over Drones en het hoe en wat waar je mag vliegen?
@13FPV
@13FPV 6 жыл бұрын

@kasperz.5218
@kasperz.5218 6 жыл бұрын

I applaud your kind of police, so polite, so much respect! Hier in Suid Afrika 'n hele ander storie! (Here in South Africa it's a whole different story) That was really good to see! Maybe time to come home. (In a forefather/roots type of way)

Exactly. How high does it fly? (Translation: can it bring down a passenger plane). Do you see something special when you fly over the trees? (Translation: can he spy on people)

Interesting encounter...I do believe it's ingrained in post-911 cops brains to "interrogate" anyone doing something they don't understand. I don't believe they can help it. It's just the way they are programmed. It's just their job. I didn't detect any malice...just deciding: threat or no threat. Nice kwad BTW!

i had a similar encounter about a week ago and the moment they caught i was completely informed about all the laws concerning flying with a drone, they turned into nice good ol' cops wishing me loads of fun with my 400$ machine xd Een week geleden had ik precies hetzelfde. Toen ze oppikten dat ik alles over die drone wetten afwist, waren ze meteen blij en shit.

Police are specifically trained to interrogate you at all times, regardless of what you are doing. It’s fishing, sometimes they get a nibble, sometimes they don’t.

Make no mistake, that encounter was not just about the cops being interested. They were also making sure everything was on the up-and-up. At least they maintained their professionalism - not something you can count on in the U. S.

I have a local park I have flown all kinds of RC planes at. I can't count how many times I was in the field and had a local police officer show up. Many times just watching, other times getting out, walking over and asking a ton of questions. I've had officers bring other officers to watch when I was there.. literally 3 cop cars in the parking lot watching me fly lipo after lipo. I have yet to take a drone.. thinking it won't be quite the same. (Atlanta USA)

@Ray Godman Indeed, weird enough I can fly planes without worrying a cop comes by and ask questions, but when flying my quads, theres always a little worry... It’s just wrong... For me, quads and planes are the same but the rest of the world has a different touht about that...

True words at the end. And I have to say. Everytime I fly with my Mavic, some people come around and ask me about that hobby few things. It is always a funny conversation and (except one situation) I always got positive feedback. And I am happy about that :)

Nice, this is how interactions with authorities should be. Educate so they do not discriminate against people that are flying FPV multirotors. There are always "bad apples" in the bunch but for the most part this is just a hobby for those of us that are serious, we are not pervs looking to spy or surveil people, it is a hobby that consists of either freestyle flying or proximity/race. Great video.
