The MiniLab MK3 is my first Arturia MIDI Controller and it's such a great keyboard in 2023! With Direct Software using Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reason, Cubase, Bitwig and other Digital Audio Workstations, the MiniLab is a breeze while recording chords, leads, basses, and drums.
In this video I'll discuss why I believe the MiniLab 3 is the best MIDI keyboard in 2023. Things like pre-mapped functionality in all major DAWs like Logic Pro, opening plugins, Transport controls for recording and playback, Analog Lab browsing, arpeggiator controls, and more.
I also compare the MiniLab 3 vs Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol M32 and talk about which MIDI keyboard I prefer over the other.

I'm late to the game too with minilab 3, its fun to use and now I'm live recording a lot more with it, I'm really glad the keyboard is slightly bigger than your average midi keyboard and the LCD window is sweet. The sample buttons are not perfect (the rgb i really love though) so I just turn off the velocity to make them usable. The sliders and knobs are premium feeling. I bought the 2300 presets for analog lab V for a discount of 70 bucks (from purchasing the minlab 3 instead of paying 200) having all these cool synths presets from back in the day is so perfect for this package.

Hello Does it work with MPC ? Can the sliders be assigned to some tracks volume on the MPC ? Can the pads be assigned to mute/unmute tracks on the PMC ? Thanks, Daniel

I would consider this, except without transport controls I'd constantly be moving my hands to my computer keyboard. For $30 more the NI M32 is a much better option, especially if you're deep into Native Instruments software.

I have the M32 and prefer the MiniLab 3. The thing with the M32 is Komplete Kontrol acts funny sometimes and many times has stopped working when I duplicate a track with KK already loaded on. Many times I've lost the functionality of the whole keyboard and have to restart Logic to even get the M32 to work. Seen this even on a fresh install of everything more than once. I find Arturia's software integration works much better. And it works opening and closing plugins no matter what plugin I'm using on the track. With the M32 I feel like I HAVE to use Komplete Kontrol to retain the keyboard's functionality and it can bug out and stop working for no reason intermittently esp when duplicating tracks.

@@WaveBits Agreed (from a different angle.) I love NI gear, specifically the sound sources it brings to the table. As an Ableton user, I find it hard to look past Novation for similar reasons that a Logic user might pick up this Minilab. They both have much of the functionality missing in KK devices and you can tie everything NI does to a DAW device (and everything just works out of the box). I hear Arturia went big on DAW control and it shows here. With controllers like the Launchkey mk3 or the new Keylab updates, you should be able to map anything you want to the KK software and run it from there (plus control of other software too). NI still has incredible value in terms of virtual instruments. I tried to recreate the Komplete bundle with 3rd alternatives, and it's very difficult to get anywhere close. But Komplete Kontrol is a way behind something like Analog Lab from a user interface and simplicity perspective. I expect them to come back with their next update, as the industry tends to go in swings & roundabouts, but I hope Komplete Kontrol is given a revamp as it feels a little dated in 2023. Even if they just used the GUI from Massive X, it would be a huge step up.

There should be a shift lock on this thing.. I want to only use the transport controls and it sucks I need to hands to operate them..

Thanks, that was maybe the best review of the many I watched! You mentioned the keys are on par or better than M32, I guess they are very close and you would prefer the Minilab3 if you don't need the 7 more keys on the M32? Undo should be mappable I assume..

The minilab's only problems are lack of key amount and chord mode. The Akai mini plus is a better but in my opinion.

I like the key amount on the MiniLab 3 for a portable keyset. I hope Arturia does another firmware update to allow Chord Mode to be set to the pads or on a per-key basis. Otherwise, the software integration, encoders, and faders are fantastic!
