🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:13 🦠 *Probiotics are effective for SIBO and underutilized; some people are hesitant due to negative experiences or misinformation.* 00:55 🧪 *SIBO overgrowth typically involves bacteria from the proteobacteria phylum, not lactobacillus or bifidobacterium.* 01:37 📚 *A 2014 study showed a 93.3% negative SIBO hydrogen breath test rate after probiotic treatment compared to 66% in the placebo group.* 03:00 🧪 *A 2017 meta-analysis demonstrated a 62.8% SIBO decontamination rate in probiotic groups, significantly higher than placebo groups.* 04:08 🤔 *A 2018 study using bifido strain in SIBO patients for two weeks showed no substantial difference, but the short duration might not have been fair for evaluation.* 06:16 🌐 *A 2018 study with a multi-strain probiotic showed a 33.3% efficacy rate in clearing SIBO without harming good bacteria.* 09:34 🍄 *A 2020 study indicated that using saccharomyces boulardii (probiotic yeast) alone had a 33% SIBO eradication rate, potentially better than using metronidazole alone.* 10:56 🔄 *Probiotics protected children from developing SIBO and its symptoms when administered with PPI drugs, compared to placebo and PPI alone.* 13:59 🧪 *The fear of d-lactic acidosis associated with probiotics is addressed; the study flaws are discussed, emphasizing the complexity of bacterial interactions.* 15:21 🌐 *Encouragement to try different probiotics for SIBO, even if not extensively studied, as individual responses may vary.* Made with HARPA AI

Fabulous video! Always love your content. I think it’s worth noting that in the first study that you mentioned, the probiotics alone were not the only treatment: they did “ an initial 3-week therapy with broad spectrum antibiotics” across all participants.

Yep, I found that as well and was honestly disappointed by Dr. DiNezza that she would just overlook something like that and go on to "conclude" that the 66 percent success rate in the placebo group is related to "vagal nerve dysfunction". Really? Up to now I really liked her videos, but this is such an egregious oversight that I have to question some of her other stuff (although I can confirm a lot of it through personal research). It actuall mentions right in the abstract (you don't even have to look INTO the study!): "After an initial 3-week aggressive therapy with broad-spectrum antibiotics, a 15-day maintenance antibiotic therapy with lactol was administered for the study group and the same regimen without lactol for the control group."

I'm a sufferer too, so this opinion is based on my own sibo experience.... I slowly integrated lactobacillus reuteri into my daily regimen. It helps. I also ferment a capsule in milk, and take small sips after it fermented 2 days. Also, I will start making kefir and add goat colostrum to the drink. Literally, probiotics have been THE only helpful thing for sibo....not any diet helped

If you really want an answer I've been taking saccharomyces boulardii, and a 10 strain with bifido and lacto and it's been working but it's hard for a person like her or me to give you advice when everyone has different results and reacts differently. @SketchyMarieArt
@SketchyMarieArt Жыл бұрын
@@sandra.b7207 Hi Sandra. My apologies for the wall of text. I am still on the healing journey, but I have improved a lot. Things were very dark at some point. I have been having issues with overgrowth for years without really knowing what was the issue. I finally figured it out recently. My root causes seem to be an enormous amount of antibiotics my whole life (malformation at birth and recurring UTIs) and stress. Last year, I had a violent food-poisoning (Post-Infectious IBS) that did not resolved for a whole year and is still causing me trouble today. This was the trigger for the never ending flare I am in. The worst symptom was by far the dyspepsia (nausea, impossible to eat more than 1 cup at the time and super slow motility). I started the low-FODMAP diet and gastroparesis-friendly diet, which helped a lot, but it was not enough. I had to go on sick leave for 3 months. I consulted a lot of different specialists (A LOT). Finally, I started probiotics, but only 90 billions a day. I also did acupuncture. Things started to improve, but I had a pretty bad set back. I further removed foods causing me inflammation and erratic bowel movements. I found functional testing and did a series of tests to further understand what was going on. Throughout the whole process, I started cutting my work hours down to 37 (from 60 to 70), I bought adult colouring books, planted a garden, regulated my sleep schedule, invested in a new computer stand-up desk setup and walking pad, delegated work, and I also started red light therapy (amazing). I now eat 100% organic, whole foods, no sugar. I only drink water and homemade infused water. What really tipped the scale over to start living again was taking 400 to 500 billion high quality probiotics daily (in 2 doses), red light therapy and I am also doing grapefruit seed extract as a targeted anti-microbial. Hot water with fresh ginger helps a ton with motility and soothing the stomach. I have read a ton of books and tracked any elements as much as I could. Enough to go crazy. I am now trying to balance my lifestyle, live my life, relax, and take it one day at the time. My gut was a reflexion of my life style: out of balance and stagnant. I am trying to promote balance and movement inside as well as outside.

I am now testing a new brand with the studied strain LP299V. I selected the brand Jarrow Formulas, Vegan Ideal Bowel Support, 10 Billion CFU. I also throw in the mix once in a while Probiotic - Bacillus Coagulans - IBS Management - Premium Grade Lactospore. My health has continued to improve and the other elements helping me a ton are Intermittent Fasting, it helped upper and lower gi issues. I do it following the recommendations from Dr. Mindy Pelz. I also do red light therapy daily. I reduced my work hours. I have an adjustable standing desk and walking pad for my work hours. And my diet is somewhat aligned with low fodmap (not all the time), no processed foods, only whole food, I personally removed grains and dairy completely. I was in very bad shape and now things are getting much better. :)

Gosh, I wish you were my doctor -- I'm so lost! I'm just starting out on my SIBO journey although, thankfully, I have zero symptoms. I won't take antibiotics due to a serious C.diff. infection that resulted in a hemi-colectomy (because 5 different doctors somehow couldn't diagnose it). As a result of that disaster, I've been taking Florastor for many years. With my new SIBO diagnosis, my naturopath just prescribed Ther-biotic Complete, plus a prebiotic, and a couple of other things. Unfortunately, I react to most herbals because I have Hashi's and I'm TH1-dominant. Thanks for this video and I'll be listening to more!

@@PrettyH1 Not one of the 5 tested for C. diff. In fact, these doctors prescribed anti-diarrheals as well as Bentyl, which caused the C.diff. toxins to fulminate in my gut! That's what led to my emergency surgery because I developed a toxic megacolon. I was within minutes of dying. It was only my otherwise excellent physical conditioning that kept me alive (so my surgeon told me afterwards). This was 30 years ago and I learned my lesson. Don't take ANY doctor's word. Hello Dr. DiNezza, I randomly came across your video while doing my research on SIBO and gut microbiome and I just want to say your video is very informative and helpful! :) It really adds a new perspective to things that we have been "accustomed" to from the society. That said, I am really hoping you can help answer my question: You mentioned in the video (with medical research papers) that probiotics can actually help those suffering from SIBO. So then when it comes to dysbiosis and overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria (e.g., citrobacter freundii complex and other imbalanced flora), would adding more probiotics not fuel the fire? I have been told that some of those "bad" bacteria use those "good" bacteria from probiotics as food source and feed off from them which further contributes to the overgrowth of dysbiotic flora. I would love to hear what you think about that and if you still consider taking the probiotics would provide just as much benefits! Thank you again! You earned yourself a new subscriber :) Have a great day/evening!

Thanks for this. My gut health was never better than when I was following a lower carb diet and eating kefir daily. Bloating disappeared, water retention vanished, I had fresh breath all of the time - even in the morning before brushing my teeth and my energy was good and balanced. Forward wind to a stubborn UTI and subsequent antibiotic use and a few weeks later, I’m bloated with a 4lb weight gain (despite changing nothing in my diet), fatigue and brain fog and a dreadful sour taste in my mouth that I cannot get rid of. Wondering whether I should be tested for SIBO and take antibiotics (which sort of feels counterintuitive after my recent experience), or really tighten up the diet and introduce a probiotic supplement and/or kefir. I’m going to try the probiotic route first. I’m not against antibiotic use but I also know that they set off a whole host of issues for me longer term and IF I can avoid them, I will.

You can't buy it, you have to make it yourself. You'll need a yogurt maker, some half & half, some prebiotic fiber, some L. Reuteri, L. Gasseri and B. Coagulans probiotic starters. I recommend getting some live kefir grains and make your own kefir as well. It's recommended to use BioGaia Gastrus chewable tablets for your L. Reuteri starter.
