Thanks for the review. back in the day, i had the bogen/manfrotto 3051 tripod that had a lever to telescope the legs... Probably would have been faster than of your tripods, but probably 2x the weight also. I wish manfrotto developed the lever release concept, or some other company picks it up because it was super easy and fast.

Yeah, I really don't need a tripod that can go up to my second storey window. But one that can do head height down to the ground, that's super light...

Because DJI is the most popular prosumer gimbal brand and yet its QR plate doesn't work on most Manfrotto heads.

Great video. I had nothing but trouble from the start with a SmallRig carbon fiber tripod (the AD-100). First, a leg split at the rivet and while loose, a plastic gear at the tension handle fell out and was lost. I asked SmallRig if I could purchase a gear. The customer service rep said she'd get the technical team to answer. I asked twice - no answer. I had new gears CNC'd from aluminum and when I reassmbled the tripod, one of the metal plates that hold the works onto the leg simply broke. Too much money, many hours and a sh*tload of effort later, I gave up and pulled the expensive trigger on the Sachtler FlowTech 75 and activ8 head combo that I wanted in the first place. Of all the Millers, Sachtlers and Bogen/Manfrottos I've used over nearly 40 years of using tripods, I've never had problem with any of them. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE SMALLRIG CARBON FIBER TRIPODS.

Looks really good but the lowest height is a big limitation for my work. The carbon fiber also has that limitation. Bummer..

Yeh I wish the Smallrig one was able to get lower. The YC Onion Pineta tripod can go low like the Sirui one. I'm testing that one out now.

Thanks for the tip Scottie! That works great when packing away. When you are just trying to lower it while maintaining camera position, I wish it was little faster.

Yup. But when you're lowering the camera to adjust shots... prolly want it slow and clunky like that. Safer. All good. I have 3 SmallRig tripods. They kill it. Got rid of all my Manfrotto. Side/top mount or nothing. I will never slide a plate in a tripod again. Ridiculous. @@SePark

can't say I need a heavy duty but man just love how quick and easy that height adjustment goes. Would love to have this tripod in my kit, but folded length is too big for my bags hehe.

Could you match the Small Rig head with the SIRUI legs? Just curious as it could be a good way to save on cash if you want to prioritise legs from one over the other

You should probably be comparing prices of legs only since the smallrig head is very cheap and missing any pro features so that makes the legs seem much more different in price than they are.

Oh hey Noah! You're right I should have mentioned that among some other things. As a footnote, looks like the SmallRig AD-80 legs by itself is $149 and Sirui SVT75 legs by itself without the mid spreader is $549. I do these videos unscripted and sometimes don't get to cover everything in my mind, but you read my mind. Good catch. Thanks!

That's what I thought too. I checked it out at Bild Expo to be sure. The lever is still plastic. However, it's got much heavier feet, mid section spreader, and different fluid head support.

at 8:48 when you're showing zhiyun plate, does this happen with the plate that comes with the tripod, or rs2 rs3 plates too? , saw a negative review on amazon, regarding this safety issue as well, where the camera fully rig fell down, due to this plate issue, i am about to buy this

The one that comes with the tripod is very secure both ways. You would have to be careful with the DJI plates since if you forget to push that safety button, it could slide out. Hope that helps.

Hi Se, I am looking for my first heavy duty tripod. Would you recommend the AD-80 or upgrade to the carbon fiber version? Also, have you seen the new YC onion pineta tripod?

Hi Javier, good timing. I just got the YC Onion Pineta tripod. For the value, AD-80 is great. Well made, and mechanism is really well designed. I just wished it could go down lower. I'll make a video about the YC Onion tripod, but it's somewhere between the AD-80 and the SVT75 in terms of weight. The Sirui one is just so heavy. To some that's not an issue, but I am not made of 200+ lbs of muscle and I travel around with my tripods. YC Onion solves that. It's much lighter and it can do the low angle. The spread mechanism is better on the Sirui compared to YC Onion. So it's really how important is that low angle shot for you? If you don't plan on going low to the ground SmallRig is great. Since the carbon fiber one is heavier and the release mechanism is still plastic, I would say AD-80.

Thanks Se for the detailed information! I saw your review and was almost about to pull the trigger on the AD-80 cause of its great value. But might as well wait for your review on the YC Onion tripod! The SVT75 is really nice too but a little bit too heavy and pricey for me 🙌

@@SePark curious to see your review of the yc onion ! the sirui svt75 lite and the YC onion are both listed at 7.7 lbs / 3.5kg (the lite version is the same as the pro, without the strap and the spreader) so i'm suprised for the weight difference

The slow lowering where you have to keep stirring it around is VERY non-ergonomic. I've had things like this and it is so annoying. The search continues. edit: I noticed he lifted the center brace while lowering which would also fix your lowering issue. It makes the legs go down vertically which is much faster with little sidewall resistance; looks like dinner is back on the table.
