Hey thanks Christopher! I actually have not used the ones that are already in preformed nuggets. I did some googling and it looks like at least berkley has a couple of different colors and flavors in the premade nuggets. From what i can figure there does not seem to be any real difference between the two types. Since most all of the stocked trout we fish for are "stocked" they are fed a steady diet of food pellets at the fisheries. All the bait manufactures have done is ground down those same pellet formulas and added some high visibility dyes in dough form so those trout are used to the smell and are familiar with it even though it does look a little different. So i do not think you can really go wrong, as both forms float. I would recommend if its in a fishermans budget to buy a couple of different colors for when they are being really pressured you can show them something new from what all the other fisherman are tossing at them.

I’ve used night crawlers back in the mid fifties and they worked fine . Just put a real light weight on the line and a whole night crawler and cast it out there , leave some slack in the line and watch. When that line straightens out you can hook him .

Use fluorocarbon for your leader and run a longer leader you'll catch more fish

@@MosesMLamthe Carolina rig came out in the 80’s fishing for bass. I remember it well as my dad used one in a BASS tournament on Sam Rayburn in Texas around 1988 in the pro-am division.

Why not just purchase smaller barbless hooks? And, as stated already, a longer leader to your hook.....get above the weeds in summer.......

Great explanation and great fish preservation tip with the barb bit!
@throwinghooks43758 жыл бұрын
AC, I believe the rig will work just fine but the bait I would be skeptical about. The power bait is pretty much designed for stocked trout as the main ingredient is made of the same pellets that they are fed in the hatchery. for wild trout I would use baits that they would usually find naturally in the waters you fish.

What is the difference between the powerbait like yours, and the premade nuggets? Great vid! (just started fishing the stocked rainbow trout here in Texas and have been researching baits/hardbaits etc!)

Will this rig work on speckled trout
@gsdubz99318 жыл бұрын
I've been using small, salmon egg hooks, size 10. I've always been under the impression that you shouldn't leave any of the hook exposed and that the bait presentation should be somewhat small. I haven't fished for a long time, and am rusty. I'll try your rig when I get a chance to get out to the lake!
@throwinghooks43758 жыл бұрын
Hi Darryl, I think your spot on with your presentation using an salmon egg! A we should always strive for the most natural presentation that we can achieve. Good luck at the lake and thanks for watching!

I wouldn't use trilene if I were you... it has a lot of "memory" that's where if you bend it, the bend you made stays there.

just kidding mate i think your hook is way to big also try moulding power bait in the shape of a minnow or tadpole rather than a ball its seems to be more effective in my opinion

I can tell your only used to panfish based on your knot.nothing wrong with that at all though.but unless the state tells me to pinch my barbs,im keeping every barb i can get on a hook.if you cant remove a hook from a fish neatly,then just sell your gear and dont ever get near water again.pinching barbs is for those catch and release assholes,and fish get leary of every rig known to man after a year of that crap.if you wont eat it,dont catch it.
