I work in pest control there’s also nothing stopping the from just chewing the plastic also, in real world usage this wouldn’t hold a rat for very long and would be pretty ineffective, spring loading the door so it only swings open one way would work better if you where intent of live trapping.

Much better if the entrance is going down, not in. The entrance should be on top so there is no possible escape.
