Just a note, you can cook a full rice cooker full and the rice you do not eat immediately can be broken into portions, wrapped in cling film and frozen. To defrost, just use the microwave, it's how most japanese housewives do it these days to speed up cooking a meal. The rice tastes as good flavour and texture wise.

You can also add frozen vegetables to the uncooked rice and a chicken breast (with skin) and replace the water with chicken stock which has had a tiny bit of saffron infused through it. Cook the rice as normal, then remove the chicken and cube it before returning to the rice and stirring a good know of garlic/herb butter through the mix. As an advanced twist, cook with extra stock to porridge, then dice the chicken and stir through 1 eg and one egg yolk extra through the mix after adding the herbs butter.

We keep asqeeze bottles of 2 parts oyster sauce, to i part light soy sauce and a dash of toasted seasame seed oil, dash of white pepper, as our basic rice dressing.We have one with added chilli oil, and various seaons to taste, or/and togarashi seasoning. Rice absorbs any flavour you throw at it not just soy sauce, setup little bowls and play till you find your family secret sauce or google.

Got exactly the same model a few weeks ago and only just used it yesterday, have to say it’s awesome bit of kit. Did 2 cups just to see how it came, suffice to say it ended going into a nice Nasi Goreng for dinner. I’m no expert but I did learn one thing when I worked in Malaysia is you can’t stir fry freshly cooked rice, I let it cool naturally, rinsed it through with cold water and let it drain thoroughly, put in a clean bowl, cover with cling film and bang it in the fridge for a few hours or overnight. Result is perfectly fluffy rice when you stir fry it 👍. I’m now trying to find the best long grain rice I can find as the bag I picked up was about 45p labelled as “savers rice” from Morrison’s - any advice from rice lovers would be appreciated 👍

I do like this type of video, the Geek lifestyle is more than just cameras, computers, tablets, etc., there are many cool geeky gadgets that are used around the house, take for instance my review of the Vivitar Stick on LED Light, sure it is not as exciting as a new smartphone or earphones but it is a cool gadget to have around. This was such a nicely done and helpful review! Do you find that the rice sticks to the bottom of the cooking pan? I've recently bought a russel hobbs rice cooker because of its high ratings but was really disappointed to find that it always burns the rice/the rice sticks to the bottom and forms a crust, no matter the quantity of cups! That’s my issue! I have a 10 year old Zojirushi, but the pot was Teflon & the ONLY Zojirushi nonTeflon pot available *is horrifically expensive* to import where I live. The import tariffs are 75% of the already marked up product!! brutal! So, because I want to be rid of the Teflon & we have a massive electric converter that eats space in our apt, I think it is overdue to convert to a 220 electrical appliance. (been 4 years) I am disgusted Zojirushi cares so little about customer health risks. My issue is that I don’t know if the rice will be as good!

Hi, I have just bought a panda rice cooker, but am confused by the circulating light... I was under the impression the cooker would advise me in which phase it is, as it cooks... according to the manual, there are cooking stages which should appear on the front panel...? @@geekanoids ok... well... I think looking at it again, the instruction manual *outlines* the phases, but doesn't actually show you the working through them. The white short-grain rice took a lot less time to cook than the manual stated (about 17 minutes as opposed to 40 minutes!) and even though I carefully measured the portions of water/rice, it was way too stodgy - more like congee! So I will reduce the water next time, and see how it improves the rice. Right now? I'm baking a cake....! www.yumasia.co.uk/image/data/manuals_pdf/YumAsia/Panda%20YUM-EN06%20Manual-EN.pdf here to help!
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! When Panda is cooking, there is the 'chasing lines' pattern that is displayed to show you that it is cooking. There isn't a cooking stages display on Panda (there is on Sakura, which this video is about), we describe the cooking phases in the manual so users know what the cooking cycle does, but we do not display this in any way during the cooking. We are limited in what we can feature on a rice cooker like Panda at this price level, so we cannot feature a countdown timer or anything like that.

Thanks for your quick answer but you don't have understood my ask. I didn't ask you about the quality of cooking 3 or 4 cups of rice. But about cooking 0,75 cup of rice : 3 divided by 4... So, less than 1 cup of rice. that's why I precised all this in my last comment. I hope that I am much clear. I ask you if you can make the experiment of cook 0,75 cup of rice (so less than 1 cup of rice) in your sakura and tell me if the quality is the same than when you cook for more than 1 cup of rice (for example, 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 cups of rice). thanks per advance for your quick answer.

The minimum I have tried is one cup which cooked fine, I think that would be the minimum. We refrigerate what we don't use and reheat.

Thanks to have made the test for me to cook less than 1 cup, it is very gentle from you. I appreciate a lot that you accepted to make the test for me ;)

Jasmine rice should be slightly sticky. We are not talking Uncle Ben's tasteless rice here....this is 'proper rice' done authentically. If you prefer your rice with looser grains then you can simply add slightly less water before cooking. Alternatively you could use Basmati rice which is less sticky however it often has less taste than jasmine rice too.

I hate to be a jerk but you really shouldn't claim somethings the best if it's kind a like your second rice cooker you've ever owned. I would assume stating something is the best because you've had experience with many other rice cookers. I hope this trend it doesn't continue with your channel. And the outside of the thermoses aluminum, not stainless steel.

I would simply ask "Dave have you had any experience to base your judgement on?" … that would be cool :D my answer, I have used rice cookers for ten years plus and have experience of cooking in approx ten different models. My older rice cooker, was indeed my second one and the one I used most regularly.

We at Yum Asia (home of Zojirushi in the UK and Europe for over 11 years) designed and developed Sakura based on our extensive experience of Zojirushi rice cookers which are the number one selling rice cooker brand in the world. We've done extensive blind tests between Sakura and Zojirushi models as well and not one person could tell the difference between the rice cooked in each. The outside of the Tafu thermal mug is stainless steel, not aluminium, we made sure of that!

Terrible performance in comparison to Zoji, which is why they are the worlds premier brand and not this copycat trash. To see YumAsia commenters say that there is no discernable difference between theirs and the latest Zojirushi models is quite offensive and a outright lie, since everyone we compared with picked out the YumAsia output in seconds. Try again. Things are 'cheap' for a reason.

I think you’re the offensive one here, as they’re the same brand, just Zojirushi uses YumAsia as the brand name for UK and Europe. Do your research before getting all damn high and mighty, eh?
