Agree with you on the Velocity Nitro 3 Tom. Defiantly a softer (better) ride than the 2. Though still firn compared to many current shoes. I love it. And cheap. £55 in a sale. And incredible grip.

Can't go wrong with £55 and I thought I was doing well getting them under £100. Yeah the Velocity Nitro 2 was odd. I quite enjoyed them then one day, albeit when it was about -2 deg C, they just felt really "flat" as if the cushioning had gone and had only done 100 miles or so in them at the time. Agree the 3 is still "firm" by modern day standards but certainly not too firm and although not a speed shoe, I am perfectly happy doing some strides in them at the end of a run which is always a good sign for a daily trainer.

I did 800 K in Deviate Nitro 2 since November...what a beast and work horse shoes. Great very grippy outsole. It was perfect for all late fall-winter-spring season in the UK. I am very intrigued by Nitro 3 coming. I hope they will be slightly more roomy in the toe department (deviate 2 tends to irritate my second toe on right foot from time to time)

Thanks for the video Tim. Our preferences in shoes are incredibly similar - I suspect because I'm also (fairly!) light in weight and have a narrow foot. The Velocity Nitro 3 is my most used daily trainer (gradually softened up and now fills great at 100km), some tempo work in the Saucony Endorphin 1 and racing in the Vaporfly. My Deviate Nitro 2 gets a lot of use also and I still have two pairs of Zoom Fly 3 in my rotation, which have a fair few miles left in them - these are of course a good training companion to the Vaporfly. Hoping the v6 will be worth getting...

I must try a Deviate Nitro and from other comments here seems a v3 should be out before long. Can’t say however I was ever that enthused by the Zoom Fly 3 or 5 which I tried. Both seemed heavy bricks in my UK 13 for supposed up tempo shoes.

Interesting thoughts as always. Shed videos are the best. Interesting on the NB4. I really enjoy it but after 200k into it I rarely find myself reaching for it now. I have been picking the Mach 6 over it as of late. Agree on the Velocity Nitro 3, Pegasus versatility in a "boring" package that gets the job done very well.

Perhaps we just find a shoe we like for a purpose a bit more than several other contenders and think may as well wear this one especially when out of a review cycle for a video or something. That said first time I have mentioned the Velocity Nitro 3 in one. Peg 41 is coming soon on Nike UK so will be sure to pick that one up especially in the "luminous" colourway I like!

I had a full rotation of the puma's for 2 years (version 1 and 2 of the deviate family ) until the shoe width (and a bunion) put that to rest (had some great runs in them though) , but when shoe stretchers would not even resolve it (partially down to power tape) then they all went to a charity shop. In the meantime I am loving the rebel v4 , as I have a smaller wide foot 🙂 race shoes .. Saucony pro 3 are a safe pair of hands the first Mizuno rebellion 1 has been my favorite and I felt most natural in the puma deviate elite 2's but would end up a bloody mess due to the tightness in the forfoot and toe blisters.. Vapourflies is a nice shoe but never quite had enough foam in the forfoot for me , felt slappy .. but then I do have a very odd trot

Pro 3s an absolute beast. I've got over 500 miles in my first pair and the uppers have been OK since about 100 miles. Although the first time I wore them at the Colchester 15 I thought I'd broken a foot bone! Funnily enough Dawn much prefers the 2s. The 3s are my marathon shoe of choice, although given events so far this year that's not a glowing endorsement

Ah good to know. I realised I underestimated slightly what I said on my mileage in them and have actually done 240 miles although that has taken pretty much exactly 2 years now. I still did a fair amount in them even so before passing on to a viewer!

@TimGrose 2 ай бұрын
It is a tough one for sure. I did try the Boston 12 which seemed to be a firm favourite of some KZfaqrs although oddly never seem to appear in too many videos after initial review. Personally I found it firm but stable which must be handy for towpaths as you don’t want to wobble and then fall in. As such zero runs in mine this year so failed to make my list but never say never. That said the Kinvara Pro must be worth a shout. Never tried it as heard it was heavy, expensive and firm but stable. You could of course use it for shopping or just taking the kids about.

You have a pretty good gait and not chewing the lateral side of the heel like many of us. For getting decent mileage from racing shoes after their racing life is over, I am using "Shoe Goe" to build-up the area. I wish shoe manufacturers had strengthened the rubber in that area. It would barely add 1 or 2 g. Heel is already a smaller area by its nature, they can easily reduce the thickness or coverage in the forefoot without affecting the performance and durability for forefoot landers but when you do that to the heel lander the durability of the shoe is significantly compromised.
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Ай бұрын
Been some years since I tried "Shoe Goe". Just a good excuse for new shoes these days. Kind of jinxed me with that nice compliment as have picked up what has seemingly turned out to be an Achilles injury and have to stop running for hopefully not too long. A friend of mine destroyed 2 pairs of Vaporfly 3 after just a few runs in each. The heel rubber basically fell off! These days he can beat me easily in an actual race though so takes all sorts.

Haha, literally 20 miles for each of the 2 VF3s I had and sent back. Chris (Sagasu Running) found pictures of the potential new outsole at the rear of a possible new VF4 which looks more streakfly by design. Gets away from the current tiered pattern and likely to suit my rear heel striking better! Puma Velocity Nitro 3 looks like an “interesting” option - I’m looking for a daily plodder.

Sure you weren't the only one to have those problems so am sure they will be looking at it. Overall think the VF3 has been a little bit of a disappointment but such a high bar to follow. My main problem was the rather generous upper and I still prefer the relatively slightly firmer feel of the v1 (and largely v2).

@@TimGrose agree. The VF3 feels more a marathon shoe to me. Nowhere near as aggressive as the VF1 or 2, and lacking the snap. I was toying with the idea of giving the AF3 a go after other positive reviews (like Andy’s) but I think I might wait for you to give it another go. I know you and I concurred in the AF1 so are likely to have a similar experience in the AF3.

@@josephgonzalez_ It is the odd though with the VF3 as when I have done say 400m road reps in them they felt "fast" and the one "decent" 5K I did last year was in them. Interesting video. To me, VF2 are still the best for racing from 5K up to HM (and I own a ton of shoes). I just found from comments below we actually have the same weight (I'm 73.5KG) and narrow feet (though I wear US13 instead of US14) and unsurprisingly we tend to like the same shoes. Within VF range, I tend to prefer VF2 (just raced a 10K this morning in them) - after the race I just realized/remembered how much these shoes disappear on foot. IMHO VF3 are good shoes -though I tend to like them more for HM .. faster than that I find I struggle with the foam.. need to put too much work to get something back. My opinion is that Nike trimmed the foam for slightly heavier runners and this could be why Elites don't like it much. I found also Andy from Running Channel had the same feedback in a fairly recent video ("He has to fight with the foam at faster paces") and I think he should have roughly the same weight than ours. I'm a bit puzzled about your feedback on VF3 (better for shorter distances???). Cheers!
@TimGrose
@TimGrose Ай бұрын
Ah interesting we are similar in more ways than one. Are you tall as well ? I am 1.95m or 6'5". TBH the furthest have raced in the VF3 is only 10K largely as haven't been doing longer ones of late. That was a terrible race for me and I think said more about me than whatever shoes I had on. Conversely my fastest 5K last year was also in the VF3. I also meant whenever I have used them for short fast road intervals like say 400s or even 200s then they have felt good but then again it is often just a case of getting on with it. Initially I had a lot of problems getting a lockdown in the VF3 as found the upper quite generous. I recall they added 2mm of ZoomX by reducing the outsole rubber by the same amount which must be why they feel a bit softer. I still think I prefer the VF1 and indeed recently bought a new pair from StockX.
@CharlesLately
@CharlesLately Ай бұрын
@@TimGrose Forgot to mention I'm 1.85m so yeah fairly tall runner though not as tall as you are. For VF3 yeah.. I think it's a mixture of foam, uppoer and real drop (I know runrepeat mesured it to 11mm for VF3.. I know some people say that it's lower than that because you compress the foam but still I feel they're higher drop than VF2). For the outsoles I totally agree with you.. my VF2/VF3 have more than 100/150K in them and outsole basically looks new aside some colors washing out: I guess runners complaining for VF's outsole durability are either heavier or have probably a different running gait that is stressing the outsole for some reason. To give some context I know a French runner (sub elite) who put nearly 900K in VF2s and could still use them for training.
