Stay out of (expensive) trouble. Go for the Lexus. I currently own a BMW and a Lexus. In 7 years, the Lexus zero problems. Now the BMW: Bought the cars pretty much simultaneously. After my last repair I told the BMW dealer to remember my face... cause he won't ever see it again.. after only 100k km, the Bmer has had a suspension ballon and compressor breakdown, also de GPS (twice in less than 3 years) the sunroof blind had to be replaced, and recently received a brand re-call letter to bring it in to correct a cooling system fault.. and I'm scared about a major malfunction with the engine timing chain a friend had really serous issues with.. Range Rover (another expensive piece of crap) and BMW.. never again.. Lexus is the brand..

It's like comparing a symphony orchestra to a jazz band - they both bring their unique flair to the stage, and it's all about personal taste. BMW may have that roaring engine note, but Lexus? Well, it's more like a smooth saxophone solo. Different strokes for different folks, and the automotive world is just one big musical jam! 🎶🚗😄

Having owned both I can sum this up. As mentioned, Lexus will give you better reliability long term if you buy the car and keep it for a while. However if you lease it wont matter either way. The X5 is simply more fun to drive, more engagement with the road. The X5 all wheel drive system is also much better than the RX hands down if that matters. X5 however once out of warrantee is very expensive for oil changes, routine maintenance. Lexus is pretty on par with other manufacturers. X5 electronics are finicky after a while as well. Lexus can be serviced at pretty much any mechanic if you choose not to goto Lexus dealer for service. BMW your kind of stuck going to BMW dealer unless you can find a good mechanic that works on BMW's. My only concern right now with Lexus is that the 6 cyl turbo engine is new that they've put in. Jury still not out yet on how good/bad it is. The RX has many new safety features which are good on one hand but annoying/too much on the other. Enough beeping guys. Enough. I think it all comes down to what you want. If money is no object than hands down the X5 is a great car. If you want something of quality that is going to last for many many years, you pay the car off and keep it for a while and will get decent money back on a trade in then Lexus is better. I dont believe the X5 holds its resale value as well as Lexus either but again some people care, some dont.

The passenger side's dashboard of the new Lexus looks very unique. I think it's a very unique dashboard design, making it looks more spacious, reminding me of a Japanese garden view at night.

We bought 2023 Lexus RX350h Ultra luxury 74K And around same time our friend bought a 2023 BMW x5 premium package 100K Yes bmw has some more luxury like when you activate the front seats heating or cooling the arm rests get warm or cold too, but when you want to load stuff in the back of your x5 the lower part is kinda in the way unlike Lexus , in the Lexus the back seats are positioned Lower and in the x5 the beach seats are positioned higher and you can clearly see the difference between them but one thing that I liked about the Lexus is the door handle designs and the door opening assist that bmw didn’t had. About speed and acceleration no one gets an suv for performance they are not meant for that so we really didn’t cared about the performance, Ofcurse the car has to be able to carry its own weight but nothing more For us we got more bank for our buck so we bought a Lexus RX but I could totally see why people like to buy X5 after all it depends on your taste

It's important to note that the Xdrive 40 is the least entry X5 in the lineup whereas the RX 450h is the top-of-the-line Lexus. These 2 car companies are not playing in the same league.

Lexus all day. Point A to point B ride is all I need with a bit of luxurious amenities. Enough power day to day. I just like the reliability of the brand. I still can't afford one though. Maybe if I win the lottery.

The X5 is a winner for you if you want a BMW and the Lexus is a winner if you want a Lexus. How can you even compare these two. At this price point the overal feel counts more; I would expect both of them to be good :)

The other thing to note about the BMW is their subscription stuff. It still destroys but something to consider

It's basically Japanese Luxury vs German Luxury and guess what, either one you choose, you win.

Maybe you can do a video detailing the driver's experience with a suspension that has "adaptive variable suspension" (e.g. Toyota Crown) versus those without. The upcoming Lexus TX 500h F-Performance has this feature and your past reviews of the Toyota Crown suggest it greatly improves ride and handling qualities.

X5 all day, every day. Not knocking Lexus reliability, it's legendary for a reason, but people are sleeping on the B48/B58 engines. These generations of BMWs are going to last so much better than the stuff from the Oughts and early teens.

I own Lexus RX 330 2005 until 2023 with 220K miles on it without tune-up nor repair anything except changing tire, brake and engine oil. Do you think X5 can do the same thing?

Owner of X5, test driven the current Rx, feels too small both interior and exterior, ride is more quiet and relaxing, but lack power ( 300h model), overall X5 is more spacious, more fun to drive, but Lexus is definately more reliable for long time ownership, but majority of buyers at this price range probably won't own any car for over 5 or 6 years anyway so it's not a major issue

I currently have a 2023 RX Lexus F Sport and I love it. I been a Lexus owner since 2007 but was thinking about getting a X5 but after reading some of the comments I think I’ll stick with Lexus. I have had no problems with Lexus, I just wish they upgrade their technology a little bit more.

I take the Lexus, more reliable and maintenance won’t be too expensive! And will last longer! That BMW will depreciate faster than the Lexus, if I want to resale the Lexus I will get my moneys worth!

Those tire changes are prolly fast on the x5 since you cant rotate those huge tires in the back with the fronts. And expensive.

Lexus reliability is legendary. But for those who drive cars like the X5 it doesn't really matter. They are either going to lease this, or drive it for 5-6 years, trade it in and get a new one. And most of the European luxury cars are going to be great in that time period, while offering more modern tech and a more exciting engine/transmission with better handling. It all depends on what you want or need.

The X5 is available as a hybrid also, so you should have compared apples with apples.....

U guys should have given the x5 a point for the split tailgate, as that is definitely going to be used a lot by buyers. But otherwise, it's not hard to see that the Bimmer looks more luxurious compared to the best selling Lexus for the class

That base engine in X5 is B58, the one that makes the X3 M40i one of the fastest BMW SUVs.

As someone who owns an interation of both ( X5 M50i and GX 460 ).. I'll say this.. Want a fun, exhilarating driving experience, not necessarily comfortable though= X5 ... Want a boring, but very reliable experience = Lexus (boring doesn't apply to the LC500 or the IS-F 500)..

I bought the RX for the smaller size, better mileage, and less cost.. I liked the X5, it had more features etc.. but I just dont need all that. I felt the BMW was more upscale, but the RX was good enough for me. Im not disappointed, I enjoy it, and have had it for 7 months now.

As someone who owns both the X5 at least the plug in one i own is much more comfortable smoother than the RX450h that i own...

X5 All day. I cant even stand to look at that RX, not to mention the great fuel economy and power on the BMW X5. It’s also faster, and more luxurious.

Metro area with massive stop and go traffic- Lexus. Suburbs with free open roads- Bmw. Ain’t no spirited drive when you rip the car off and breaks within 100 ft again due to traffic or stupid lights.

Similar equipped X5 is almost $17k CAD … sure you get an extra 180HP and 3 year maintenance, better tech for the X5… but is it work 17k more? (I’m compared the PHEV versions)

Proof that reviews/comparison like this cannot be relied on. Its a disconnect from reality. Bmw wins by huge points but more people buys lexus.

You must look at the category. Are people who are buying these SUV’s towing or going off road, no. Are you trying to drive like you are on a Grand Prix race track, no. You are probably going to work every day, driving on long weekends or vacations with your family. All of this is personal preference but for me spending that much money, comfort and reliability reigns supreme. With that said I prefer Lexus, not mad at anyone for having a different opinion.

I've owned both and I would not buy another X5, but I would buy another RX 350. Unfortunatly ICE vehicles are going the way of the Dodo bird and we may be forced to go EV. Maybe by the time I have to get a new car in a few years, EV's will have sorted out all the issues.

Reliability is more important to me than engine refinement. So Lexus RX is my WINNER here.

The car they pick up the most are BMW's. So it is faster. Thats good. I mean, you need it to be fast so you can reach that shop or dealer for repairs before they close the place on ya... In the UK, The price difference between a top spec BMW X5 50e and Lexus RX450H+ is more than 10k. Makes the Lexus much better.

The X5 has a smashing exterior And a smashed down interior RX doesn't seem as premium or appealing in exterior but definitely the more welcoming interior layout However, no denying the fact that the material and build quality is leagues ahead in the X5

No mention of the 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 at all.... Regardless. V8 or i6 any day EVER over an i4

In addition to Lexus's lower price and superior reliability, I would add an overall lower cost of ownership, which is much much higher with the BMW - as they tend to be expensive to maintain.

The X5 for me but I want to see a comparison against a GLE Coupe and a X6 competition so lightly GLE AMG 63 Coupe and a BMW X6 competition

To sum it up. If you want a point A to B premium SUV with reliability get the Lexus. I you have a soul and enjoy driving and you want a LUXURY SUV the get the BMW. Lexus is not on the same level with BMW when it comes to luxury. Lexus after all is just a Toyota with a dress on. So many people crying because Lexus lost. Remember Lexus makes some of the most reliable vehicles out there, but not the best vehicles. I probably makes more sense to compare Lexus to Infiniti, Genesis, or Volvo. Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are on another level in terms of technology and luxury

I wouldn't call BMW. A Luxury SUV. It's more Premium than Luxury. BMW are more geared towards Sport. Luxury you cruise. BMW you Drive.

I own Lexus rx. And most importand thing is that this car dont break. Reliability is incredible. Maybe Audi, Bmw or Mercedes has better design or interior but who cares as they are not reliable. And you need fix them all the time. My next car will be only new model Lexus.

RX 500h for me, Ever since I learned BMW has engineers on staff specifically who's job is to engineer failure on purpose and the plastics used in the engine. Its a no go for me. Spending the money if you are going to keep it you want something that will last.

Any toyota/lexus is better than this x5...😅but if someone would buy me I would say differently 😂 "never buy bmw" ,thats said to me my friend who worked at bmw dealer. Only lexus or mazda. He worked there too. The number of complains at bmw comparing to mazda and lexus was staggering. But if someone just buy me one ,no problem ,I could drive the x5,x4 ,x99😅 and other of 1000 models of bmw...

I have unfortunately bought the RX500h , was a massive let down with the little raspy 4 cylinder engine that gets horrific fuel economy and small btw gas tank, also this lexus RX500H depreciates like a rock i have one 8 month old paid msrp and jist gotba few trade in offers for $56,500 , so do the math

In the U.K. if you keep servicing with Lexus the warranty goes on up to 10 years. For the best drive etc X5 is way better, on resale and warranty wise the RX is the better. I would have either but can’t afford them. lol.

I drove a 2007 BMW X 5 until 2021 , love it and trade in for a used 201 BMW MX 6 with 22675 miles on it 😘

Definitely the X5 the interior of the Lexus is pretty basic.

These are just such different vehicles in almost every Imaginable way. If you think they are comparable, save yourself a bit of coin, enjoy the better reliability, and buy the Lexus - because you won’t know what you are missing.

Sorry but you’re comparison in regards to powertrain and fuel economy/ Audio system isn’t really a fair one. Obviously the RX has better fuel economy due to its 4! Not 6! Zylinder engine and its electric motor. In order to draw a proper comparison here you should compare the BMW X5 50e not the i40. Same goes for the audio system. The RX is equipped with the pricier option compared to the harman and Cardon. Take the Bowers and Wilkins 3D Atmos System and it crushes the RX to bits.

Here in Europe, the BMW brand is in decline. The standard of living is getting worse and worse, so people are thinking about what to spend their money on. BMW is known to be more problematic than Lexus. It is not only the service costs that need to be taken into account, but also the annoyance and the frequency of visits to the service center. So people here in Europe are also starting to realize that it is more worthwhile to buy a Japanese car. And now the Chinese cars are coming, which will really upset the balance of power......!

Modern day BMWs are very reliable. Especially with B58s. Also owner takes important role. Proper maintenances will make your car more reliable. Only reason Toyo/Lex is notorious for reliability is because their cars have been same since 2000.

Give me the X5 every day of the week. They proved in this video that the X5 is way more luxurious, and it has a more refined powertrain. The RX is WAYYY too over styled for my taste, and the BMW has a way more attractive interior. I’d gladly pay the extra money for the Bimmer.

Biggest problem with the X5 is no physical buttons for climate. iDrive 8.5 is not good.
