It also, is a part of the sea shanty melody that Home Free did during pandemic. A scupper is a toilet/outhouse, hence the toilet seat over his head. The Captain's daughter is the cat-o-nine tails.

I wouldn't call this a sequel as such. Some think this is also pirates but it isn't. Note the costumes for one thing. But the cast is mostly the same, with the addition of a drunken sailor. Well done for spotting the celtic hand drum (bodhran) sound. It's an old song, but nothing to do with pirates. It has more relation to the whaling boats - think Welleman. Once again Geoff wrote a bridge section to break up what is often a rather monotonous song. Jose is the large gentleman, who appears to be the captain, as in Hoist The Colours. A scupper is an opening in the side walls of a vessel or an open-air structure, which allows water to drain instead of pooling within the bulwark or gunwales of a vessel, Put him in the scupper with a hosepipe on him refers to a punishment for drunkeness on board. The man would have his head pushed into a scupper to keep him in place, and then was whipped with a short length of hosepipe.

This is an old sea shanty-very repetitive. Voiceplay just changed it up. Very enjoyable!

A scupper is a drain hole in the deck of a ship. Large scuppers had hose pipes in the bottom: water, being a liquid, would have no problem flowing out the side, but large solid objects (such as the ship's tackle, or sailors) would land in the hose pipe and could be fished back up. This is age-of-sail stuff; the modern equivalent would be a drain with a metal grate on it. You may occasionally run into the adjectival form, "scuppered", which originally meant that something had fallen into a scupper, but then was pressed into service as a euphemism and eventually came to be a general-purpose derogatory adjective. My favorite thing to notice in the video, is Eli's reaction to Layne's antics with the toys.

'Ear-lie' (instead of Early) in the morning is the way it is normally pronounced for this song. It is a rather old song, (mentioned in writing back in early 1800s) so I'm not sure if that was a normal pronunciation at the time or what. But it is the one stand out strange pronunciation in the song that I have always heard. You probably HAVE heard this before, however not with such a lively beat. The song is in fact rather repetitive and until this version I would never have imagined myself wanting to dance to it! They turned it into a total bop! I would search for some other covers of it. I'm sure you will recognize it then. I will suggest considering to do their 'Post-Apocalyptic' Trio of songs. Begin with Imagine Dragons' "Warriors", then it continues with Aerosmith's "Dream On" and ends (so far) with WhiteStripes' "Seven Nation Army". I kind of like to lump Imagine Dragons' "Enemy" in with those as well!

I tend to think of this more as a prequel than a sequel...the guys are lacking all the prominent scars and brands they're sporting in Hoist the Colours, Cesar hasn't yet lost an eye, and they all seem less somber and not quite as blatantly unhinged in this one. ETA: If you thought Jose sinking Layne's boat was mean, did you catch how traumatized Eli was by the boat getting chomped by the whale? Captain Jose was protecting him! XD Also, a scupper is an opening in a ship's bulwarks meant to let water drain from the deck.

...still waiting for your promised reaction to Voiceplay's Skyrim arrangement, so adorable! But anyway I am quite happy, that you found back to Voiceplay again. So sad, you are not taking the time anymore, to find words for what you heard and saw. The first reactions to Voiceplay you did, you where able to point out so much.... which I appreciated a lot.

So glad you didn't miss the end! I think you missed Cesar twerking though! "Drunken Sailor" was a popular sea shanty on TT, and Home Free has it in their sea shanty medley And Jose is the brawny fellow in the back who plays captain (I think) in this and Hoist The Colors. Oh, and no. You never get used to Geoff's low notes. Also, if you watch the Halo Theme DO NOT TURN IT OFF TO THE VERY END! That's never more important as it is in that video!

A scupper is an opening in the bulwarks of a ship that allow water that falls on the deck to drain overboard. Also, the Captain's Daughter is slang for a cat o' nine tails (a type of whip).

If you had grown up in the USA on the eastern side of the country you would have heard this song in grade school, at some cafes/diners with seafood themes. It is an old song and was popular with anyone learning piano, or violin for a while simply because it wasn’t classical or boring😂

The drunken sailor was past member Matthew Buckner aka Bucky who is also in their mini 500 Miles. I like this better than the original. The guy that puts the boat in Layne's drink is Jose. The guy who puts the toilet seat on the drunken sailor is Cesar.

Only Voiceplay could make drunken sailor sound like this :P I love the angry beatboxing moment when the ship goes in the tankard XD I would be more surprised if you never heard a simple version of drunken sailor, its one of the best known sea shanties out there, or at least feels like that in the UK. Almost any rendition of drunken sailor has that similar er-lie sounding early pronunciation, I think its probably derived from the same overdone "west country accent" cliché pirate speak. (You can blame early versions of treasure island and peter pan for that XD) lets just say nothing they are describing to him is nice, which is aa shame as drunken pirate dance break was cool! (Well... being made to listen to voiceplay isn't exactly bad... If you listened to Trapped you probably agree in being up for joining them just to hear that live!) One of them actually came up with some extra bits to the song than i have heard before "in brine deep we will hold our drink..." or something like that

I love the look on Layne's face when Jose plunges his boat into the ale tankard. Then when Layne's looks over his shoulder at Jose you can almost see the thought he has of stabbing/fighting Jose. I have to mention Geoff's evil eyes and leer when singing about carving the sailor's heart out.

Please please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover of Hell Fire. from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Geoff will blow you away as the evil Minister Frolo. He does evil so well. He really didn't want to play this role because of it but Layne told him he had to. You will love their cover.

Oh, btw the one you thought was Jose is actually Cesar, Jose is the one standing throughout the video. They are all so good in this. Geoff has a way of arranging very repetitive songs to be so different and interesting.
