Thank you for this clear concise and illustrative cross section in the VR, AR, XR jargon soup - smart glasses. I'm Interested in all these Smart Glasses applications, but in the short term (as this is going to be my first set of Smart Glasses), I want productivity glasses. Or, I think I do - the virtual displays in physical space seems interesitng, but I hope by going with something like the Lenovo I won't be limited to that. I may actually prefer the heads up so that I can freely move about and not have to worry about the orientation of my body or head while continuing to focus on the application I'm currently interacting with. I have an esoteric use case which may or may not be useful to others : Though all of these Augmented Reality (AR) use cases are really compelling, I have an old skillset that includes touchtyping at 50-100WPM depending on what I'm doing, and I increasingly need to be more ergonomic. Ergonomics is fun and games in our 20s and 30s. But longer term, I really believe ergonomics vision is lost without a paddle. We physically aren't much different than when we were hnters and gatherers. We are going to be happier waking around upright, looking around, occasionally squatting, sitting or reclining, reaching, climbing, etc.. In essence I think this is what ergonomic really means. By definition sitting and typing are not ergonomic. So I'm focusing on some novel ways to mount split keyboards to my sides such that I can type in a relaxed way. My pie in the sky vision would be to have a physical keyboard follow my hands around in space so that I can type while moving around without having to orient myself to a stationary keyboard. Thanks for your patience in my long comment. I'm leaning toward the Lenovo, but I need to find out more about what options there are to work with a plain old Windows machine. Seems TCL, Madgaze and Epson may be players. I hope to try your open source glasses, but I have to focus on 1 thing at a time. Thanks for this video!!

I wouldn't really call them smart glasses, but I think Dusk, the first electrochromic glasses are also worth checking out! I thought they were pretty cool when I tried them

Best description and detailed coverage of current and possible glasses. I am looking for glasses like HUD types that show info but don't always take up large amount of the field of view. I want to use them for translating languages in real time, AR directions for GPS and mapping use and screen calls and display texts. To do all these hands free and in a lightweight low profile package is my dream. If they could also display large format screen for viewing videos/TV etc and be used for AR and VR games even better but those features are less important for me.

I really fuck with this video on so many different levels. You nailed it right at the beginning in saying that so many different videos of this nature are always showing glasses that won't exist for another 10 years or the average consumer can't even buy. Often times they're taking their old videos from 2020 or 2021 and just changing the title of the video to whatever the current year is at the time. This video on the other hand cuts through all the bullshit and gets right into the point. This video divides the different glasses into categories based on their features and various use cases. Additionally, talking about glasses that are adjacently related to AR glasses helped me consider that maybe I don't even want another VR headset and maybe just want MR or HUD glasses. Hell, this video even showed types of glasses that I wasn't aware existed, like the transcription glasses. The glasses project that you are working on that provides real-time information during conversations sounds cool as all hell also. The only thing that I could have seen adding to this video was including price points for many of these items, but some of these glasses don't provide an upfront price range (like the Snap Next Generation) so I can't even complain or fault you for it. This type of content delivery on KZfaq really has become rarer over time and I see that your sub count is around 600 right now (which in all honesty deserves to be higher in my opinion), but you will definitely see a massive increase in the coming months alone, and even years if you keep this up. That is a fact. I appreciate the work and research put into this video, and look forward to the next one. A definite subscriber right over here.

Great video, I am currently using the bose frame tempo. What would be the best solution for me is to combine the bose frame tempo with the nreal air for both business/work related. Hopefully vuzix blade 2 and or inmo 2 can do this when it comes out.

Great video, very clean and informative. I stumbled into a release article about the ESSNZ Berlin from TOOZ but i can't help feeling it's too good to be true. Simple notification display coupled with voice assistant, and prescription glasses friendly (massive point for me). Are you familiar with this brand ? ...there's a catch, right ? Haha. It looks like they are still only available to developpers and we're still years from commercial distribution but it makes one dream.

Hello and thank you for your video, that helps a lot! Three things there are, I am still wondering and maybe you can help me with that: Why are so many smart glasses shaded? Is that an aesthetic thing? Does it help the display, is it 'better'? Hide the monitors or so?! Second: I searched a bit to find something for my needs and there are glasses for under 100 and over 900 Dollars/Euros on the market. Either I did not get a point (yet), or I do not know. Third: Power and source. In some reviews it is said, some glasses 'do not have their own power supply'. Does that mean, I always have to have a constant cable to my phone? I want to have glasses, that wirelessly provide me with calendar, weather, mails, messages and maybe in calm areas a film, YT or such. I am not sure about a product, but I will follow you, because you video was helpful! Thank you!

Hi Cayden, I loved your video. It's a no nonsense piece, packed with info. I came across it while looking for a pair of smart glasses to help me see as I have extremely dry eyes. I understand this is an ever increasing issue we are facing today. My eyesight changes frequently through out the day (depending on how dry my eyes get) and naturally corrective prescriptions are static and don't work. Any thoughts on which of the tech you reviewed I should check out? Thanks so much.

I like the Vuzix the best because it looks like they will accommodate both eyes just the right eye. That's the problem I have with a lot of the smart glasses out there right now. They only want to focus on one eye to display to. What about the people that have vision problems in the eye that the display is in. So when they start displaying in both eyes that's when I will seriously look into smart glasses.

Have worn glasses since I was 12 for nearsightedne4sss. A few years ago had a sudden loss of central vision that the doctors are now linking to a DNA disorder. I still have a large part of my vision however am not comfortable driving for the distance portion. I still wear corrective lenses either glasses or contacts. Is there a product that could increase my distance so I can be comfortable driving?

We tried the Microsoft HoloLens in a production floor (assembly) environment and they failed miserably. They overheated, battery life was next to nothing and they broke ...as in plastic pieces fell off. We are looking for the ability for motion or voice recall of step by step instructions, video and pics of what we are assemblying to reduce the upskilling time of our assemblers. The AR software vendor we used was OK, but seemed burdensome. Great video and good information. Thanks.

Im looking for AR glasses for navigation any additional features i consider a bonus, but my main priority is that I can use them with google maps. Reason why is sometimes Google maps will say "head north", but then it's hard to tell which way is north on a cloudy day unless there's am arrow to guide you. Are there any available that are relatively reliable & won't break the bank?

Google map overlay would be awesome for when you're driving/walking and looking for an unknown destination. Even for linking with a specific program such as a nav guide for people wandering around foreign places like hospitals or a home depo store like costco or bunnings. *Where you can enter the product/service you're looking for and a waypoint will take you straight to it, no more asking staff which isle or floor a particular item/service is located. It could even be paired with the stores website, so yo search the item/s you want and add them to your cart and upon entering the store, the carts contents que up a shopping list with directions to each item displayed on the smart glasses screen. QR codes of items could be scanned and product info/description/specs coild ve provided to the user in an instant.... Imagine the convenience when shopping for house paint related items, knowing which product is compatible with which other products and which tools/applicators/cleaning agents are required for each product.... The possibilities are endless. Please don't sell out to a closed source manufacturer..... Don't let Meta do to AR/XR what DJI did to UAV/UAS (drones)...

Gentleman you are young but you are doing a fantastic job. I may suggest your opensource project to my boss. Right now I have a question. I have been working wiht low vision, or vision impaired people for a while. I would like to know if there is at least one smart glasses that can be plugged so that to display the notebook, tablet pc, or desktop pc screen onto the lenses. As a matter of fact up to today we zoom up on the monitor or the notebook screen. I fancy that a smart glasse screen would greatly improve the productivity of my student. When I think about considering buying a smart glasses, I'd look for these 2 things: 1. Ability to simulate screens properly: A PC/Laptop screen like an extended multi-monitor setup (fixed position). And ability to show your mobile screen on your dynamic POV. Transparency options will be a plus. 2. Form factor. It should be light, as mentioned, under 100 grams in weight, it shouldn't look obviously bulky and wide. I'd really hate the magnetic look from the passerbys. Just because it'd be light doesn't mean it'll be okay to have less battery life, I'd like it to have at least 6-8 hours of usage per 100% charge. Finally, I can't pay $2000 for a glass. The budget I'll keep in mind will be around $300 to $500. Hoping to finally see a relevant smart glass this year (2023)

Smartglasses I'm interested in: should look like spectacles/sunglasses, have displays and a camera that can enhance low light at least like a smartphone. That's basically it, a bit of night vision in low light conditions or with a discrete IR flashlight. I've seen something like that as a DIY item for hunters (with a gun mounted camera), but never as something ready to buy (at least not recently - there were MultiVision2 glasses back in the VGA era that did fit the bill).

Hi, I always run into problems to film the videos by myself alone for my youtuber videos especially when I try to film videos on how to repair or troubleshoot electrical instruments or mechanical components. Is there any reliable spectacle that comes with integrated camera so that I can film my videos hands-free, first person view videos? I can not hold my mobile phone while at the same times filming while i am demonstrating live hands-on troubleshooting. Sometimes, using phone stand unable to solve the problem because i may need to move around while filming. Thanks

I don't want smart glasses that over lay info on my vision.... I'm visually impaired, and all I want are a pair of smart glasses with a camera that allows me to zoom in on objects, and have that projected on my vision. I'm zooming in on things with my phone all the time, but it would be fkn awesome to have a good looking pair of smart glasses that I can use for that task. Does anything like that exist?

I infrequently use a laptop these days as my phone is good enough for most things, even trading but I want to be able to have a virtual screen, so I can use my phone as a laptop. When a phone can do what a laptop can, and run the same software, I’ll stop using one. I use a remarkable 2 as my primary paper nowadays.

Can you give your thoughts on the nreal air.

What I want, even if I have to wait because the technology isn't there yet: A pair of glasses light enough to wear all day, even if the battery won't allow it to run all day, with video play back for stuff like KZfaq, and hand gestures so I don't have to use a controller or my phone.

I know these glasses are a new technology, they need to add some new features on them, meaning so you can connect the glasses to a DVD or 4K player and watch films also, that would work really well especially with home theatre systems, imagine you have the glasses on watching a very large screen 200 inch screen , if you could connect them into a DVD player I would definitely purchase them, the company is leaving alot more money on the table, imagine they get all those home theatre hobbies that are into surround sound systems, and plus there is people who want a bigger screen at home because of room size and space this can work very well these glasses has a lot of potential, note if you can connect them to a DVD player or TV that's a lot of potential! don't forget people out there that have a soundbar or home cinema there'll be really happy be able to listen to their soundbar or home cinema surround sound watching a 200 inch screen that would really go down well, I emailed two different smart glasses companies and mentioned it to them and they've said that is a really good idea thanks for mentioning it to them!
