- ABOUT THIS VIDEO -
In life, having a backup is always a smart idea, especially when the power goes out. Gas-powered generators can work, but they are noisy, produce unpleasant smells, and need a secure location to store gasoline. Additionally, they influence climate change.
On the other hand, as solar technology advances, solar generators are getting more and more cost-effective, easy to use, and clean. They can be especially helpful in emergency situations where access to other fuel sources is restricted or impossible. Typically, stationary or mobile solar panels that are sold separately are used to collect solar energy, transform it into electrical power, and store it in a battery for eventual use in solar generators.

Very good video. When discussing the Ecoflow solar panels, it would be helpful to show the solar panels, especially with all the different components being discussed. Your description jumped to, "the 400w panels," and (not bring clueless about solar chargers) I had to go back to understand what kind of "panels" you were talking about.

I ended up returning my Bluetti just because the service response to my questions was so bad. In particular they show in all of their pics the units stacked on one another, however when you read the manual it explicitly says not to stack. When I asked their customer service they said it should be fine, but sounded like it would void warranty.

Why are they called 'solar generators' when they don't generate anything - they are simple battery packs of varying capacity which can be charged from solar panels or other sources - but they are batteries - not generators.

I have the Delta 2. Use the phone app, WiFi, and Bluetooth capable. There are so many additional functions and settings you can personalize to your needs. The app also works in combination with the extra battery, and smart generator, which makes it a very hard-to-beat and still portable combination. 😎

You obviously never used a Titan solar generator. 3000w continuous out, will actually do more, 2000w solar in, 1500w ac charging in, and 12v 20 amp car adapter, all can be used at the same time, and can discharge at the same time. No limit on battery expansion, and can run on any 24v batteries, lithium, gel, lead acid. Dont try any of that with the ones you listed, you will start a fire

All of the solar generators that you've reviewed use the same high frequency, transformerless inverter technology that is found in all expensive, Chinese made solar generators on today's market. These solar generators simply don't last. They are of a high frequency design and without an iron core, copper wound transformer to absorb the back EMF and high surge demands of high inductance loads, the MOSFETs cannot take repeated exposures to high surge loads such as full sized refrigerators, large power tools or large microwave ovens. You might be able to start and run some high surge loads when these solar generators are new, but every time you fire up that inductive load, you're shortening the life of the MOSFETs in your solar generator's nverter. They also run much hotter than low frequency, transformer based inverters which makes the low cost, off spec, Chinese made components such as capacitors, diodes, resistors and ICs that are used in these cheap inverters, far more prone to early failure. Another major consideration is that the vast majority of these solar generators are non-repairable. After the warranty runs out, you're not going to be able to ship this unit back to the manufacturer in China and have them repair the unit. At a typical shop rate of $125 per hour in the US, with no schematic and limited parts availability, it makes no economic sense to even attempt to repair one of these units. Once the FETs have fried and have taken the inverter's PCB with it, (And trust me, sooner rather than later, they will fry.) they basically become a brick. A far better alternative is to invest a little more money and purchase a low frequency, transformer based inverter charger. They last far, far longer and can easily power high surge loads without being damaged. See my video for more information on high low cost frequency inverters. I know this to be true because I've spent the last 23 years repairing inverters. They simply don't last when powering inductive loads.

I would suggest assembling your own, easy to build solar generator using a hybrid, low frequency inverter charger from either Outback Power, Schneider Electric, Magnum, Energy, Sigineer Power or Victron and add a bank of LFP batteries. Your system will last far, far longer, it will run much cooler and can easily power high surge loads without being damaged and without damaging your appliances.@@unknown4now385

So tired of watching videos that don't tell you the most important stuff about these devices. They won't tell you type of charge controller they use. If they do, they don't tell you the battery type such as LifePO4 or Lithium Ion. They click bait you by telling you it's a 600 watt unit but then later in the video it's not really a 600 watt unit, but a 236ah unit with a 600 peak output. The best unit, if it exists, is one that has a MPPT charge controller for maximum charging from you solar panels and a LifePO4 battery that has longer lasting charge cycles and which is much safer than a Lithium Ion battery. NONE of the videos I have watched on YT describes any of what I am searching for. They are such a waste of time.

Not sure why these are called 'solar generators'. That's a huge misnomer. These are portable power stations. Yes you can charge them via solar but only if you buy the expensive solar panels separately. Also, the solar panels don't charge very efficiently even on a sunny day.

I have a concern about Solar charging. I live in Ohio where the average number of days with full sun is only 11 per month for 7 months of the year. In the summer June thru October the days climb to about 20 days of full sun. When running an 1800 watt power station, I would have to make its capabilities work for 3 days between charges. I’m not sure how to deal with this situation.
@geraldhenrickson7472

Depending on what you are trying to power...1800 watts may only last a day or less. More panels would help yet you might be better off investing in a more serious solar system.

@@goodolgoldy1976 It also depends on how long the outages are that you're expecting. Winter is not as big of an issue for a fridge with food you keep at 38f. If you're expecting a 3 day outage and need to power a fridge/freezer for a 2+ day period, once a year, I would just get a gas generator and some gas cans. A real generator should be able to power inductive loads like refrigerators, microwave, ovens, portable air conditioners, power tools, motors without being damaged. All of these solar generators use high frequency, transformerless inverters in their design and cannot provide an adequate surge capacity to power inductive loads. You may be able to start some of these loads when your high frequency solar generator is new, but over time, typically after less than a year of repeated use, your lightweight, high frequency solar generator WILL fail. A much better choice would be to invest in a power station that uses low frequency, transformer based technology in its design. Low frequency inverters can handle high surge loads for at least 3x their continuous rated capacity and they can do this repeatedly for minutes, rather than milliseconds

a 6500 watt capable solar generator is worse for the environment during its production than a 6500 watt gasoline generator over a 10,000 hour life span.

This is nothing more than a battery with some add on's and you have to; recharge it and a generator does not have to be recharged! Yanmar diesel generators are very dependable and diesel fuel will last for many many years. I would spend my money on something that don't need to be recharged when you could spend the money on used solar panels etc. for a complete solar system

Rechargebality is the best of them. I used River Pro 2. Maybe for lighting the River 2 also would be enough.

After reading countless customer reviews on all the brands of these power stations I decided not to buy one. The customer support when there is a failure, even not long after purchase is non existent and they make you jump through expensive hoops to return then they send you refurbished. To expensive for that kind of result. I will have a system built instead.
