The "Hot Wheels" reference hit home, I said to the wife, "here's a guy with kids." I built a pair of bookshelf speakers and eventually gave them to my daughter While waiting to be placed in their homes on top of the built in bookcases, they were sitting on the floor within reach of my three year old grandson and his little cousin same age. So they at some point became occupied behind a sofa and by the time we located them, they had filled up both speakers with "Bluey" character toys. Luckily pulling the drivers allowed the gang to be liberated with no damage. P.S. as long as you don't start reviewing speakers that cost as much as a three bedroom house, I think you can still call yourself the C.A.M. 😉👍

Eventually this channel is going to evolve into a Not-So-Cheap Audio Man. I think it's natural as I find myself spending more and more the farther I get into this hobby.

i heard these and they sounded great and if they start showing up used at $1500 it would be very tempting but for now it would be hard to pass up a Zu or Teckton or even the incredibly built and so rich looking Sonus Faber Lumina V

This size speaker is called a "monitor." It's larger than a bookshelf but it's not a floor standing speaker. Monitor style speakers often come with short, custom designed, matching stands.

Worth comparing to ZU DWX, made in Utah, half the price, 95 db efficiency.

In the world of $15k-$100k speakers , $3k is comparably cheap audio speaker. Your still the cheapaudioman , just now your educated to better review if a speaker punches above it's weight class or not

A friend of mine recently purchased the Source Point 10's and invited me to listen to them. I then invited him to listen to my Zu DW 6 SUPREME'S I purchased a few months ago. Cut to the chase he could not believe what he heard, left went home brought his speakers, amp and source material to my home for a A/B comparison. Seven hours later using only his amp and material he could not believe the difference. The last hour we used my tube mono blocks and he lost his mind. Soundstage width and depth were even substantially better with the Zu's and he actually thought both of my sub's were connected when I switched from his amp. I am not bashing Andrew Jones as I own the Debut Uni-fi Reference bookshelfs and I think they are great. He returned his speakers at the end of his home trial.

If the room setup at :46 indicates how you listened to these, I think you might be missing out on what concentric drivers can really do. I noticed this when you reviewed the Uni-fi 2 UB52 as well, where you actually towed them in until the streams crossed??? Concentric drivers should be aimed perfectly straight out into the room, no toe at all. They need to be WAY out from the wall, mine are 31 inches from the wall to rear of speaker (this is why these Mofi's seem to have so much base, they are too close to the wall). You then need to set up seating distance to be a perfect equilateral triangle. Once you have it dialed in, the 3-dimensional imaging that takes place, mostly behind the speakers, will make you feel you are right there where the recording was made, to the point where your brain even recreates the smell of the tube amp when you hear it humming on an SRV recording. There's no way you are getting that effect with speakers placed that close to the wall, you are flattening the image into 2-dimensions.

Love the channel. Made many purchases based on your recommendations and haven't been disappointed yet.

Also many of you forget in few years on used market $3000 speakers become less than $1000. And then you will be looking for this video for some reviews before you try to get a deal on them

OMG. The Hot wheels really had me laughing. My daughter pushed in my tweeters on a nice set a speakers I used to own. Just pushed in the shiny tweeters. A nice black shiny button to push. All shiny and reflective. I think I need to push it in...... Imagine my confusion looking at my speakers with pushed in tweeters...... LOL HOT WHEELS!! Holy smokes that is funny!! The $200 you save shirking the stand is PER STAND btw so saving $400 but after a quick look on crutchfield, if i was gonna get these id just get them with the stands if im already spending that much on speakers

While I have not heard either of the Mofi speakers live, I was completely blown away by the 10s, listening to the initial Andrew Jones demo, only through my headphones on KZfaq. Found it intriguing, just how many reviewers were crapping all over the performance…seemed to be a decent amount of backlash that made me go…hmmm. Either way, no doubt I’d be almost as impressed with the 8s. Love the new baffle and clean looking concentric design. Another great review my man, keep up the excellent work…always look forward to your vids. Hope the Metallica/Pantera concert was all you hoped it would be. No doubt it was. A handful of my buddies who went here in Canada, said the concert was amazing

From your description, I’d wager that the Q Acoustics 2020 would give a similar impression. These little speakers caught me by surprise.

The Source Point 8s are super beautiful looking and sounding that Steve Z's non audiophile wife bought them on the spot. That should speak how good they are.

Not that I'll ever have the mad money to buy a pair of these, just some observations on what I see in terms of design. An 8" bass driver is seemingly in that sweet spot of very good transient response interms of inertial mass and the ability to move sufficient amounts of air to hit into the lower frequency range. I have always been partial to paper cones in drivers ( except tweeters) they seem to not have a particular bias to the sound. The coaxial design gives a "point source" to the audio with the 8" paper cone acting as a wave guide for midrange frequencies without being a rigid horn structure that can color the sound. The woofer also has an accordion edge suspension which is probably more linear in action than the rubber or foam surrounds of other designs. The soft dome tweeter looks to be over an inch in diameter and maybe tilted toward the upper midrange and lower end high frequencies than absolute top end sparkle. The cabinet is obviously solid and dense with the multi-faceted front panel helping to suppress spurious edge effects. Having amplification with lots of reserve power and a high damping factor doesn't hurt either. A lot of care has been taken to make all of these points work in a balanced fashion.

If you are going to get into that price range, would love to get your take on ATC speakers. Something like the smc12's or smc20's

One of the main criticism of coaxial drivers is that the woofer cone acts as a horn for the tweeter but moving back and forth generates some kind of distortion?

I listened to to the SourcePoint 10s at CAF, and instantly sent a message to Zeos to come down immediately to hear them. Btw we met I believe Friday night in Zeos’ room at CAF. Those speakers just took my breath away. Depending on the room size is what determines which MoFi speaker to purchase.

Personally I prefer my midrange to be neutral, transparent and smooth. Treble should be airy, detailed with enough upper extension. This will create a wide and spacious soundstage that is insightful and non fatiguing. If this can't be achieved because the bass muddies their presentation then for me it's not a great speaker. It's an indication that the speakers lack cohesion, balance and proper implementation. Have you tried reviewing Sonus faber Lumina line speakers? It's way cheaper than this and it's handmade in Italy. You'll be surprised.

Incidentally, I'm also a drummer, and the last two times I've seen Metallica, I noticed they were very "out of time" as a band during many of their songs. Great review amigo. I appreciate you looking at some equipment that carries a higher price tag. Everyone is working off of a different budget, and our income tends to increase over time, so many will of course outgrow the cheapest audio equipment. These may seem pricey compared to the most affordable speakers out there, but they appear to represent a huge value. If there's a $3k speaker out there that can compare to a $5 - $6k speaker, I want to know about it. As much as I enjoy your reviews of some of the most affordable equipment, "cheap" is a relative term. Some of us are making a little more now, or have been saving for a while, and we want to know what the best vale is at the higher price brackets. Dare I say, you may need to review some $5k - $10k speakers, just to establish a reference so you can accurately convey to us how well the more affordable speakers hit above their weight class. Having said all of that, I hope you continue to review the affordable equipment out there to help those just getting into the hobby.

Speaking of cheap, have you tried adding a Behringer Dualfex Pro to your signal chain? Speakers that I thought has no low-end and boringly flat, surprised me with their punch and low end extension when the Dualfex was enabled/used.

For $3k, I'd get the Tekton Double Impact speakers (dual 10" woofers, dual 6" woofers, 6 mids around the tweeter). I like to feel the thunder.

You need to try out other dual concentric speakers. And next time an efficient one. Please, go all in and try a set 15’ dual concentric like the Tannoy Arden. They are certainly not cheap, but they are dynamic, engaging, musical and just plain wonderful. This is the original, the others are just copies ;)

Personally, I don't understand needing a frequency range up to 30KHz. There is little musical material above about 15KHz, and humans hearing tops at 20KHz anyway. Little things like that are just a bit of a niggle point for me. Low bass is similar, if using for music, but the speakers dont go below human hearing perception. Sure, these may be great speakers. $3000 great? Well, the description sounds reasonable. Just don't get why they want to aim frequency range so far above what is needed.

That's a hefty price tag, but as you said, to gauge the sound, you need a yardstick to measure them by, so the comparisons were helpful. Based on your experience, an opinion that would help me is, how do they stack up against the SVS Ultras? But, as always, thank you for your time, effort, and honest opinion on these speakers. Take care, Sir. All the best, and don't give yourself a hernia lifting those speakers. Hernias are not helpful for dive certification.

When I was single it would fit my budget. Now my budget for audio is 1/10th less. $300 is my ipper limit now

For 3K I can buy Klipsch Heresy built in Arkansas. For less, I can buy KLH made in Indiana, or Wharfdale made in the UK. I have real reservations about buying something at this price that's made in China. Just because supply lines from there can change pretty drastically without warning. I understand the company isn't based there but that's cold comfort when the cone maker in Guangzhou changes things or quality control slips. Just my opinion in regard to paying more for things.

Randy, I am torn between these and the Criton 1TDXs you mentioned. Small room would be midfield setup and as you discussed these might be too much for the room bass wise at higher spls. I can pull them out only about 12" max. I really love a detailed midrange and treble with an airy, but not bright response and would be using with Dirac which might help the overpressure concerns. I have 2 SVS SB-3000 subs which integrated well after using a Umik-1 and REW. These will be my last pair (so truly end game due to health issues) and I would really appreciate anyone's opinions between the CSS or the MoFi 8s. Thanks in advance!

Its a little ridiculous the Sourcepoints 10's are $1000 more but essentially the same design, engineering and components but with a slightly larger enclousre.

I’m not going to say that I’ve been counting,but when I first started watching you, I think the vast majority of products were on the lower side,but now I think at best it’s 50/50. I don’t have a problem with whatever you review,it’s your platform, But I don’t think you’re the Cheap audio man anymore , I would say you’re the budget or lower price man, I think cheap would be speakers maybe about $300 maybe $400 in todays market for a pair of bookshelves. I personally would like $300 or $400 speakers to be compared to maybe around $700 to maybe $1500 speakers. $3000 speakers are not a fair comparison,in my opinion. I think that most people who want to step up would not be able to jump from $300 to $3000. Much like you do with Fosi or Denon or Sony versus Marantz, not Fosi versus McIntosh or Rotel, that would not be my step up from a Fosi or Aiyima . I’m just using some names for example, I understand that they may vary in price, but I think that you understand the point that I am trying to make.I myself would like to see a review on the next steps up , if possible. What small studio type speakers would you use alongside a PC monitor that have decent bass but aren't huge? I usually like 6.5" woofers but for a desktop that probably doesn't make sense.

When comparing budget speakers like the bs41, you said they can compare in some aspects to more expensive speakers, (Dali)...now...which budget speakers sound, maybe 70%-80%, as well as the Mofi? Maybe 60%?
