For those that want the Sony SSCS5 (or others) always remember to check where amazon lists the ones that aren't listed as NEW. I managed to pick up a pair listed as "Amazon Warehouse - used like new" for $65.67. When I unboxed them I honestly don't think they had ever been opened. Between this and a set of speaker stands that went on sale I've been able to purchase a pair of speakers + stands for < $100.

@@jamesmartinez1401 You are absolutely right on point✅ I & others thru the years have written to Stereophile (also decades long subscriber-68yrs.old) and told them I want to hear reviews from those billionaire buyers who buy the $140,000 Turntable with a optional $68,000 Cartridge a $80,000 DAC, a $120,000 Amplifier, Wilson’s $780,000 Speakers with $112,000 wires, plus another $60,000 on “Extras” Snake Oil in disguise 🤣🤣, then play a $10.00 LP or a $20.00 SACD thru their CheapO $65,000 CD Player that sits on an $850.00 vibration free pad 😂😂😂😂😂👍 Jim, Fred, Ken, Jon, Jason, Herb, Michael, Steve or even John Atkinson would never reply.. When I was on FB, same thing, no response.. And lately there’s been talk of the rooms & music these Stereophile reviewers use.. Limited time or proper equipment to do a good review.. Sean at Zero Fidelity summed it up nicely.. He’s backlogged on reviews because it takes lots of time to do a decent “hearing”. And Sean many times does a follow up a year or so later on that 1st. review like Tharbamar does👍👍 At Stereophile they go thru tests in hrs. sometimes! Always , Same old same old words & lots of contradictions I’ve spotted many times a few issues later.. .. I think the money from their Advertising Clients is too great..Best2You..

Another great video filled with great information and well presented. Happy to see the "sith sponsor" back in action. During the pandemic I bought the R51M, based on a positive review. I paid $129.00. I use them in my bedroom setup, power comes from an Onkyo TX SR 309 that was just sitting in my basement after I replaced it with a Yamaha. The combo sounds very good especially for this application. The TV is a 50" TCL, $256.00, bought just before the prices went crazy, the speaker stands are home made with scrap wood. The Blue Ray is a Sony, again "recycled" after being "retired" from its original job. I spent $385.00 total and have no complaints including the sound coming out the small Klipsch at $129.00. A lot of choices in the $200.00 or so range, nicely done Randy.

Good job. Never lose the "cheap" in cheapaudioman. One thing I've been thinking about as far as reviews go, is that a lot of people don't say what system they used to test speakers, which seems kind of important. And they don't test the speakers with different amps much. The former is an easy fix. I know why many don't do the latter - it's a hell of a lot more work - but it could give you an edge over other channels and be really useful info. Just a thought... Anyway, keep on truckin'...

So I have to ask considering they can still be had for $139 on Amazon where do the Jamo S803 stack up in this shoot out if they'd been part of it? I recently, this month, put together a system using your recommendations. I have the Laxjie A30 feeding a pair of Jamo S803s with an ELAC SUB1010 and I'm very happy with it. I use it as a sound bar killer with Optical from my TV and it also doubles for music via BT which is very good. All in with cables I have a system under $500 that fills my medium sized living room and kitchen coming off of it with good sound. So thanks for the rec's over the past few months and I have to say I'm very happy with them...

Something to consider: These are all "bass reflex" speakers with rear-firing ports..... not ideal as an actual bookshelf speaker, as most would benefit greatly if they didn't have to be stuffed into a..... bookshelf. Ports need some room to "breathe", and unless you have an open-back bookshelf in the middle of the room, you're not going to have that space. That's where the Polk ES15 has the clear advantage. They have a unique port that directs the soundwaves to the sides of it in a 360-degree pattern. This allows the port to be placed in close proximity to a wall (or bookcase!) since the soundwaves aren't hitting a wall and firing straight back at themselves. This is why the smaller 5.25 woofer outperforms all the others as a bookcase speaker. It's also why they feature a "nail hook" to accommodate hanging them directly on a wall. Because you can, with no negative consequence.

Living in Japan, I bought the Sony CS5 earlier this Year while I had the JAMO S803 in my radar but couldn't get them as no official distribution channel exist in our country. Few weeks, there was a parallel import offer for the complete HCS system so S803,S801 and Center channel speaker. with Amazon discounts I could finally have them shipped from US to me for less than $500.I know it sounds crazy but I love the looks of them and again your reviews, and others, got me also positive about making the silly money effort. they arrived yesterday and I took off the CS5 and hooked the JAMO and after just few hours listening, I don't regret my choice. They look superb in our living room on our TV Italian furniture and the soundstage and other qualities you advised are there, completely agree. I have a Sub to help with punching up the Bass in Movie we tried last night so no worries here as well. sure the CS5 was absolutely brilliant value for money but I can sell them for certainly close price I paid for (13,000JPY or $110) few months ago as they are in mint conditions and you might be surprised considering we are in japan, go never below $110 over here. Best you can get them for today is $140 for example. and I am also considering selling the S801 and Center speaker on Auction channel over here to ease up the money pain of having imported the whole HCS lot now after my long personal comments, I guess my question is what have you removed the JAMOs from your comparison here? Great channel, great personality, love your tone and humour BTW, keep it up!

I would still take the Fluance Signature HiFi 2-Way Bookshelf over these others almost any day. I feel the sound is just outstanding from the Fluance speakers compared to the polks and yes I have had them both in my house, recently. I have returned the Polk ES 15's and the ES 20's (although the ES -20 did sound very good to my ear) but for the price difference the Fluance win hands down. Just my opinion.

Another great speaker shoot out. Out of curiosity, how would you consider the Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2/B6.2 at this price point? I seem to recall you once calling the B5.2 the best speaker at/under $200, and was wondering if you still consider it competitive.

The problem is the B5.2 rarely goes below $200 these days. I got lucky and snagged a pair for $195 a month ago on Amazon. He really should have reviewed the Elac BS21 which were $68 and now back to $149. They sound just as good as the bigger Elacs if you use a subwoofer.

I've bought A130 based on this video, and the voice was horrible out of the box, luckily I was able to reduce the oversaturation on the high end with the treble control on my amp to half, so if someone wants to buy a new speaker, keep that in mind otherwise don't buy it, and if Sony is brighter than this one, then I wouldn't get that one either If I had a 2nd chance, I would go with Elac or Emotiva. or even NEUMI BS5. As for now, I've put my old $30 back to my PC as a nearfield since the voice is more clear even though I have lower bass. I put my A130 as my rear speaker which is a big shame.

Detailed, entertaining review, as always! Thanks, Randy! I'm considering the Marantz PM6007 - paired with either the JBL Stage A130, Dali Spektor 2 or PSB Alpha P5 - as my first-ever hifi setup. Any recommendations in terms of pairing with the PM6007? Pricing here in India is weird - in general, Marantz, Denon and PSB are cheaper than they should be, while Dali and Cambridge Audio are slightly more expensive. JBL is at par (but rarely in stock). Elac is outrageously overpriced here.

Depends on your ears' sensitivity. I'm personally pretty sensitive to bright speakers and can get tired of the sound pretty quickly. But bright usually goes with detail which I like. So compromise. I have the JBL A130s and like very them very much, can listen to them for hours. Warm speakers are also nice, like curling up with hot cocoa and a good book on a cold rainy day. A "warm" amp and warm speakers might be too. So proper pairing makes a difference. I've paired my A130s with different amps and with minor tone control tweaks hit a happy spot. They're adaptable.

I own the Sony SSCS5. They are a good speaker, but if you get a powerful subwoofer... well the subwoofer will overpower the Sonys with its presence. I own a SVS SB2000 Pro and it was way too powerful paired with the Sonys. When I upgraded to Klipsch RP600M the sound felt more balanced. I would suggest a weaker subwoofer than the Monolith to go with the Sonys. Maybe an 8-10 inch like SVS Micro 3000, Rel T/5x, or the upcoming Speedwoofer 10s mk II.

Okay it's not a question of "won" but the RP600M has a far away sound like the HD 800S, the JBL Stage A130 is a front row experience like HD 650. Both very awesome! JBL stage A130 $199 on Crutchfield wins on a value standpoint. In my opinion the RP600M not worth $377 best sale price! I know that's harsh but that's my assessment.
