This guide shows World of Warcraft Season of Discovery players what spec they should play after the massive nerf to hunters in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery. We will alll be using deep Beast Mastery Spec for our Hunters in gnomeregan. The nerf that happened on 2/28 will impact the amount of damage that our raptor strike will do. This spec will offload most of our damage to our pet.

I can't see how +1 agil would be better than +5 str to wrists although it's largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. For weapons though, dismantle is without a question better than +dmg and shadow oil is better than sharpening stones for off hand.

dismantle > Striking (hes talking to the average player not everyone is raider and dismantle doesnt help in pvp lol) and yes 5Str > 1agi on wrists for sure. Shadow oil > Sharpening stones i totally agree as well. GG

Few Extra Tips: You can also instead of Solid Sharpening Stones, add your Weapons with Frost Oil or Shadow Oil, also to stack up Damage Dragonbreath Chili, but any Fooding afterwards overwrites, if u eat Chili after stamina, its a Stackable Buff. - Frost or Shadow Oil on Weapons - First Stamina Food then Dragonbreath Chili As Engineer, get yo Bombs, if your not an Engineer, theres still bombs to buy, "EZ-Thro DYNOMITES" Write your Macros Gud Damnit, any good parser is buffed with Macros, for example One Button Raid Start CDs, with Head Slot (Hands too) Berserk and Bestial Wrath. Important Raid Comp.: If you have a Shaman Enhancer (tanko or dps) Stormstrike debuff plus Dreamstate Increases Nature dmg Taken INSANNEEE!! So i recommend Wind Serpent > Cat if Composition gives you the Opportunity.

Such an elementary question, but do you use bite and claw for your cats abilities? Should i try controlling these manually?

No worries, you can right click on the pet abilities on teh pet bar and they will auto cast when the pet has focus to do them. You will know it is auto cast when you see the white dotted box appear just inside the frame of the ability

That will give u the most damage. and with Beast Mastery giving focus back, u wont be just dumping it leaving your pet with no focus. I would only key bind growl as our crits will take aggro off your pet and especially if u take on multiple mobs.

@@ericpadilla2454 good call, thanks for following up. To add to what you said, if you are running the focus fire rune, then you want to turn bite off. If the meta shifts and you aren't running focus fire or if you are doing a melee build, don't turn bite off

No problem at all, thank you for watching! Health is going to help you with the aoe spell damage abilities that you are going to run into. Like the poison cloud and such. I haven't run into physical damage that is killing my pet

I'd think so. The minimal times you'll be forced to use ranged, such as last boss on bombs, doesn't make that talent worth it. Unfortauntely, there's no _great_ options for some point allocations, but pretty much every class experiences that.

Everything you can learn him from stamina plus Armor. Nature Res plus Fire. If you use Cat, make sure to have the least Level of Claw and Bite. If playing Wind Serpent, only Lightning is needed because its dealing ALOT dmg in the right Raid comp.

@GladiusGamingGG - Question I am doing exactly what you did, but I am sticking with raptors, not cats (I just like dinosaurs). Am I losing to much in terms of damage/utility by doing that? What raptor do you recommend?

The only difference would be a slower engagement because cats can learn dash, raptors cannot. I notice the lack of dash alot more in pvp too.

The only difference between raptors and cats (assuming you have 2.0 speed raptor) is that cats are slightly more tanky and have access to sprint. Dash is honestly kind of big so I wouldn't go raptor.

@@Pedrosa2541 Doesn't matter which raptor you get, none of them can learn dash (sprint). Their damage while in combat will be the same as a cat but they won't have sprint and they have a slightly lower defensive multiplier.

if you dont like cat, the ELwynn Forest Bear in the South has a Attack Speed of 2.5, which should be the strongest min max dps pet

Great video, convinced me to switch to BM. Do you know if hunters mark increases pet damage? I know they scale off ranged AP with aspect of the hawk.

Thank you gothemcloud! I'm pretty sure it doesn't because mark gives ranged AP added to the attack of anyone doing ranged attacks against the target. The added ranged AP only applies to the ranged attack and doesn't increase the spreadsheet stat so it wouldn't scale the pet's damage from my understanding. I could be wrong though. why are you putting 5 points into improved aspect of the hawk? the increased ranged attack speed chance on ranged hits seems very irrelevant as melee

Pet damage scale vith ranged attack power, which aspect of the hawk increase. You should have it activated at all times during combat.

@@Zelulu1214 sure and ofc i have the aspect on, but the talent only gives 1% chance per rank to increase your ranged attack speed by 30% .. if it increased your ranged attack power sure, but that aint the case

It's a wash either way because you only have 2 choices. I would say both of the first choices on the top of the tree don't effect your melee damage at all, so if you want go with the pet health. I think people just choose imp hawk for when they're out in the world doing quests or world pvp or whatever.

Hunter discord says Wind serpents are better on bosses with high armor or every boss if you have a boomie and CoE Also says Raptor's strike is prio over flanking no matter the stacks

you will loose to many points in frenzy which is pretty important with a 2.0 attackspeed pet and the big pet cooldown, so it isnt worth it

Try to wowsims yourself, i checked in many playstyles, it will do less dmg, but have at least 4% hit (Best 8% obv.), everything below is a constant dps loss.

@@DataCollaborate no need to wow sim. I found out, it works well for mobs up to 42. 43 and above. You barely see any crit gose out, I think it’s because of target defense level, and bosses normally 43+. Not worths the 7 tp

Sharpening stone now requires a 200 blacksmithing skill? I tried and one day it was hot fixed and I couldn't use them. I use shadow oil on offhand.

You could do that one instead. the 5 melee attack power you get from the strength might put you slightly ahead of the converted pet damage you get from the 2 ranged AP on the agility. Either way will be similar

I am so sick and tired of BM being the only spec that ends up being the best each phase. I refuse to play such a boring spec. Blizzard needs to buff loan wolf again, or take it off the same slot as lion.

Moving lion to baseline would be a great change. IIt is just too powerful not to have and usually the raid needs it so you don't ge tmuch of a choice. I'm thinking some rebalancing to pets might be fun too. Like some CDR for thunderstomp on gorillas could be fun

I agree. We only have one viable spec now. Even when others parse higher, have more survivability, cc, etc, they still whine about hunters being op as we get nerfed every patch.

I actually like BM, the problem is the "cat is the only playable pet and is ok" mindset. Not, it is not okay. Why go to the work of making so many tamable pets, but put insane damage and two good abilities in one pet? I wish Blizzard would do their homework and actually buff the other pets to make them situationally better, like Gorilla. Seeing 50 shades of cat is just boring.

@sGamingGG You mentioned in the video that it appears when Raptor Strike resets. By that do you mean when it doesn't trigger its cooldown from Melee Specialist? When that happens for me it is not popping up, likely because the condition for it to pop up is it coming off cooldown, so it won't trigger here since it was never put on cooldown to begin with. Do you know if there is a way to make it pop up when when it doesn't trigger the cooldown?

Hi mate, thanks for the guide generally good input, just a few missing pieces here and there. 1. I would enchant dismantle on both weapons, with the buff it simply sims at +15 dps over the weapon damage 2. For the consumables, note people can also get the strength potion + the giant potion + the dragonbreath chili + solid dynamite + shadow bolt oil > sharpening stone and you will ALWAYS want to apply that to your offhand as wild strikes procs on your main hand 3. as it was asked, slow weapons with high weapon damage are still bis, e.g. epic fist or blue fist and you want to equip the one with higher damage in ur mh. A good change is that you now can run 2 random weapons together, e.g. fist + sword w/o the penalty. 4. regarding cat, I read a few threads that claimed that WS was BiS now as it deals a good chunk of magic dps, ignoring the high armor of the gnome bosses - can anyone confirm this?

Ok I am going to be that guy. If you are completly new to being a hunter and just hit 40 theres nothing wrong with following the advice presented here. However... Read at your own peril. On the topic of pet: On high armor targets (That is everything over 2.8k armor PRE reduction. So all the mechanical bosses (3 to 6) in Gnomer) a wind serpent outperforms a cat. If shaman/druid nature dmg taken debuff and the new Mekkatorque fist debuff is on the target the WS is better than a cat on every target. no matter the armor value. If you decide to get a ws, tame one that does NOT have a mana bar. Your pet (cat) should have Rank 6 Claw, Rank 6 bite. Dash and Prowl are optional and you need to weight their training point costs against getting the stam, armor and resistances. For Gnomer pick Fire and Nature highest rank and Frost for the remaining points. For PvP pick Shadow, Nature and Frost as the resistances. On the topic of enchants: Yes, our pet scales with our ranged ap, but 5 strength on wrists is going to outperform 1 Agi. You also want +3 agility on your cloak. On weapons you want Striking for PvP, for Gnomer you now want the new Dismantle. It obviously doesnt work on Boss 1-2 and is utterly useless everywhere else, but is still outperform Striking in Gnomer as a whole. Also ff you do more than just patchwork fights consider the movement speed enchant over the 3 agi on boots even if it is on paper a dps loss it feels so much nicer. On the topic of rotation: You want to prioritize FS as long as you are not at 3 stacks. When you reach 3 stacks the most important thing is to not let those stacks fall off. If stacks are about to drop you prioritize FS, if stacks are going to last a while and both RS and FS are up, you prioritize RS'ing. Line up your major cooldowns and stack them if possible (on use items and BW). On the topic of consumables: Dont forget your str consumables. On your offhand you want to use Shadow Oil. It gives more dmg than the sharpening stone, partially because it doesnt suffer the offhand dmg reducition (not sure how the math looks for the mainhand when you have no wf). If you have spare cash, get Sagefish Delight for mana regen (eat this first) and Dragonbreath Chili (eat this LAST. Dont drink after.). Theres more crazy expensive mumbo jumbo you CAN do, but really shouldnt.

Broken tooth is still great in PvP because of the pushback but not at the moment in PVE because 2.0 is outperforming 1.0 due to flanking strike. The damage difference isn't crazy so you can def still use broken tooth if you have him.

I hate this melee hunter meta.. Most people that play hunter play cuz we're the only physical ranged DPS and if we wanted to play a melee class we would have rolled warrior or rogue. I don't get it.

Speak for yourself, I had no interest in hunter until I saw melee hunter is a thing. I do hope ranged hunters get a nerf though, you shouldn't be forced to play a spec you don't like or reroll.
