Succulents can make the perfect hair-do and are just made for head pots. But some succulents are better than others, especially when the pots live indoors.

I have 5 year old corpuscularia lehmanii growing as Buddha’s hair plus a cutting also growing in a smaller face pot. I think it looks like dreadlocks. They’re both outdoors though. I’m going to bring in some haworthias this winter to use in head pots. I think some kalanchoe tomentosas would also look good for head pots.

Yes, yes, yes more head pots!!! And where you bought yours!! I just started my collection and have three but one of them got gnats. I love the look of the head pot I bought but it is completely hollow and requires a lot of soil . It has a drainage hole but I just don’t think my succulents need that deep of a pot. Yours look reasonable! 😂❤ mine originally had String of Pearls but it’s almost complete dead now. I dumped the soil, cleaned the pot, and used a mix of water and dish soap on the new soil “just in case”. I put a mini Zebra Haworthia in it and I hope it does well. Any suggestions are valuable!! 🌵🦓❤

Oh, noo- gnats are so annoying 😖 I get my pots from various wholesalers- they only sell in bulk though. But there's lots good options on sites like ebay or etsy. I thin Haworthia Zebra is a good choice. They tend to be great inside. I think my one tip for the bigger headpots would be to get more advanced plants. Indoors, succulents will rarely grow fast or big. Rhipsalis seem to be the most reliable indoor succulents. I'll do another video soon 🙂💚

Beautiful head pots. I appreciate learning the difficulty of growing the plants. Do you plant them directly in the pots or into nursery pots then place them in the head pots. Can you tell us where you buy these pots. Thank you.

The head pots come from various wholesalers that only sell in bulk- i have to get over a 1000 pots to be able to place an order with some. But there's lots of similar planters on ebay/ etsy. 🙂 If the pots are small enough (about 10x10cm) i usually plant cuttings directly into them and then wait a few months until they're well established and growing. It's much quicker this way, though i only do this in the growing season (spring-early autumn). I also have lots of plants in plastic nursery pots and use those when planting out larger pots.

Do I have to be Concerned about drainage?

A lot of people are but, personally, i have many pots that are years old inside and they don't have a drainage hole. All my outdoor pots that get the rain do have holes though. Imo, if you can control the watering and let the potting mix dry out completely, you should have no issue if there's no hole. Having said that, drainage hole is preferable and can be drilled into any pot with a masonry drill-bit.
