Today Viewcation is going to be giving a little love to one of the most underrated cities in the state of Georgia. There are so many things to do and see in Macon, Georgia. If you are traveling between Atlanta and Florida, you might overlook this quaint, historic southern city, but most people probably just don't know how happening it really is.

While it might not be a town that often shows up on lists of top travel destinations, but it's a city that is deeply proud of its musical heritage, historic parks, interactive museums, and many dining options. As soon as you enter the city limits, you'll notice that Macon is a place that is jam-packed full of soul. It's unmistakable.
There is a very good reason why Macon has earned its nickname of 'The Heart of Georgia'. Not only is it centrally located in the great state of Georgia, but it also boasts a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times and moves through the Civil War and Civil Rights eras.
Young or old, rich or poor, Macon is a city that has a little something for everyone. It's located right along the Ocmulgee River, and nearby Lake Tobesofkee is a perfect place to take part in family-friendly outdoor activities like camping, hiking, and fishing.

Don't forget the panoramic view from Coleman Hill especially in the Fall. Also the old Central City Park. The Macon Coliseum area and nearby Ft Hawkins historic fort constructed around the time the White Man started settling, located at the top of Fort Hill (on Emery Highway, and Ft Hill St.) in East Macon. Also Brosnan Yard where the Cental Of Ga railway system used to set up and send out trains to all points of the compass. There are a number of vids and books published about Macon. AS YOU CAN TELL, I WAS RAISED THERE IN THE 50'S AND 60'S. Turbulent times for sure, but Macon's History shows what happens when acceptance and the changes caused by it, becomes a CELEBRATION. South of Macon around Dry Branch area, from there out toward the Monument celebrating the Geographical Center of Georgia. Also this part of the Bibb/Twiggs County area once housed the Georgia Kaolin "chalk" mining operations (near Dry Branch) and the J.M. Huber mining area near I-16 that takes you to Savannah, on the Ga coast. The Kaolin industry provided the basis for things like Milk of Magnesia, and any product using "chalk" products worlwide.😍😍😄

Ocmulgee is pronounced Oak muhl gee, which is an Indian word meaning "bubbling water" or "boiling water".

Homes are very affordable in Macon. Wife and I thinking bout moving down there from north georgia

Don't! At least spend a few weekends driving through the neighborhoods, and at night in the ones you're interested in and make sure it's a suitable match.

@Charles Climineda unfortunately not in Macon. Gray is just outside and it's pretty decent. Warner Robin's is not as bad as Macon but has declined from it's previous status.
