This is somewhat like "bullet journaling" but this is much easier because a lot of people use symbols with their bullet journaling and that is just way more work I think. Thanks for sharing Becky! PS...I agree about crossing off items you've done with the thick sharpie....there is something great about crossing off items to make you feel like you've got something accomplished!!!

I've always left all the pages in my book. Some weird thing in my brain that makes me think I'll ever look at them again or something. Not that I've ever done that - not even once. I like the idea of just ripping it out and moving forward. Less visual clutter and a "fresh start" on a new task list.

This is exactly the method that works for me! I've tried so many planner types but I always come back to this simple checklist. The only thing I do differently is I list day-specific appointments at the very top of the page.

I use the exact same pen. Fine point is a must for me, too. I also use the sharpie and some type of highlighter as well. I am addicted to marking things off my "To Do" list, sense of accomplishment. I need to try your technique.

That pentel pen in my favorite pen ever! I make list's ever single day for work and home and I have to have that pen lol! When I do my grocery shopping I usually go to three different stores, so when I write my list I use three different color highlighter to highlight what I need at each store so everything Walmart will be highlighted in blue, everything from the actual grocery store would be in pink and so on! I basically do the same thing with rewriting my list I call it my rough draft and my final draft lol some people make fun of me but I love it and it gives me peace of mind!

For grocery shopping in different stores I use a free app called "List Ease" it's a terrific app on any smart phone or tablet. AND it synchronizes between my tablets and my I phone. So if I remind myself that I forgot something and I do it on my tablet it will show up on my I phone when I go shopping

@@hasamod41 I've tried using my phone for grocery list but it seems like when I got one hand pushing my card one hand trying to pick up groceries it's difficult to look at and cross off a list on the phone makes it easier to drop if you have any techniques please share.

Great minds think alike!! I use the SAME method you do!!! Except I keep mine in my planner. Literally, the highlighting technique was a HUGE game changer for me. I also highlight things I need to do or important points when I am making notes in meetings and I also transfer those to my 'to do' list. SO much easier than trying to go through ALL of my notes all at once.

Interesting method. TFS! For those who want to keep & read your done tasks-- you don't have to use a thick Sharpie. You can use a regular or micro tip pen so it doesn't completely cover the writing. You can also alter the method slightly: -- Instead of highlighting the whole line, put a circle or box using HLer at the BEGINNING of the line to designate priority. -- Check or cross off on top of HLer mark when task is completed. This will help w the aesthetics if you're concerned w the cluttered look of your pages once you strike the items out. -- save pages if desired. This method is kinda similar to the AutoFocus method created by Mark Forster. There are a couple of vids on YT showing the method. For more info google him & his site.

Those tiny boxes can be put to good use; of those highlighted in yellow are the most important one's on the list. But which one is more important (has to be done first?). That's where the tiny boxes come into play. You put a 1 in the tiny box that has to be done first, and a 2 on the 2nd most important task and so on...but you do this only on the highlighted tasks.

I have Todoist and Evernote and we can't argue the advantage of the numeric world compared to the analog one but there is absolutely no substitute in the numeric world for the physical connection we have when writing with pen and paper. Ok, you can use a Remarkable device where the feeling is near the one with a real pen but this device costs a lot of money. I love your approach because it's simple in one way but in another, it's perfect for the vast majority of things to do. I don't think it's good for recurring tasks or tasks that should be done at a specific date or time because there is no substitute in the analog world of a phone remembering me to do something. But for the focus, reflective and intentional aspect, your method is perfect in its simplicity.

it's really nice, but one caveat. I was to be able to review what I've done this past week, or this past month. The best wayt to do that is to look over old to-do lists. But if you scratch them out completely, they are not readable.

Can someone please, please tell me how you use it in conjunction with a planner. Do you use a planner along with this and have two different books you're carrying around or do you just use a list only? I'm just wondering because it's enough to just use one book but then when I have to remember to look in two it just seems like a lot of trouble so I'd like your input as to how this works.
@LauraBCReyna
@LauraBCReyna 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't use this method exactly but i see no reason why you can't use this in your regular planner-- other than if you have a lot of tasks & the lists take up too much room. If you have a pre-printed planner (not a Bullet Journal/notebook) that you can't add pages to, you can use a temporary page like a large POST IT NOTE & move it from day to day. You can also tear a page from another notebook & hold it in your planner using washi tape. Your choice if you want to keep the pages or throw them out like Becky. Some ppl use small notebook inserts & hold them together with a band inside a cover (Traveler's Notebook). Lots of vids on YT showing this method. Hope this helps.
