That song you played at the beginning was epic... Considering the small size of the amp. Wow. I was having the chick at Guitar Center show me amps. She was adamant that this one was epic. Great review and video, man. I started with a KUSTOM 8" from back in 1996. Greaaat sound, now----and effects built in?! Crazy.

Considering getting a Mustang for practice. Gotta say, I enjoyed your review more than any of the others I've seen so far. You clearly have a passion for music, and you let the product shine by playing recognizable chord progressions and riffs. Don't know when it became a thing for reviewers to show off how many notes they know how to play, but thank you for not falling into that trap. It was refreshing to see a demo where I could hear how the amp sounds when someone plays music through it instead of the 15 minutes of mindless noodling a lot of 'reviews' seem to showcase. Keep up the great work!

I’m a seasoned semi-pro, but I just bought one of these simply because I find my ever-reliable Marshall JCM800 4212 combo and all my stage gear (including two pedal boards)a load to lug around (I am over 60). My even older Fender Harvard practice amp died so I thought I’d get a modern practice amp with onboard effects, which have advanced in leaps and bounds in the last twenty years, from tinny trash boxes to pretty good imitations of valve (tube) amps. I’m not disappointed. It sounds great with my Fender Strat, my Gibson Les Paul Studio, my Yamaha Pacifica and my Ovation Celebrity Elite. Haven’t tried it with my Telecaster yet, but I’m sure it will shine.

Just picked this up from Detroit Guitars. Wow!!! Light years ahead of Fenders older 10 watt practice amp, with its dial in cab effects. For 150$ I swear the LT25 could give an Axe effects a run for its money. Is it the same? No. But for sitting at the end of your bed and jamming, this thing is phenomenal! And I use the word sparingly. I'm gonna put an SM 159 in front of it and make some noise, just to show people what can be done with a little money, some inspiration, and an incredibly equipped practice amp. This thing is a lot of fun!!!

Awesome stuff, Colin. I've got a Blackstar ID:15 TVP, which is also a great alternative. You've got all kinds of Reverb (Room/Hall/Spring/Plate), all kinds of Delay (Linear/Analogue/Tape/Multi) and lastly also all kinds of Modulation (Phaser/Flanger/Chorus/Tremolo). On top of that you can even set the amp to emulate all kinds of different tubes - EL84, 6V6, EL34, KT66, 6L6 and KT88. And then various channels like Clean Warm, Clean Bright, Crunch, Super Crunch, Overdrive 1 and Overdrive 2. And the price ain't bad. I put my Les Paul Tribute, SG Standard or PRS SE Custom through the Blackstar and everythings all good at home. But now you've convinced me to look into the Fender. Rock on, brother.

They've digitized other great amps in there. Ideal for studio use. I had a dead Crate GX80 with a Celestion G12k 12" speaker in it. Unhook the 8" Fender and ran direct to the G12k cab. Set up on SuperClean thru a Behringer V-Tone Acoustic ADI21 DI pedal. Oh, what a perfect setup for all of my Studio needs. 25 watts is plenty with this set up. Add pedals as needed. I play my Yamaha FSTA acoustisonic thru this and feed back hasn't been a problem yet. Thanks for a great review. Because of your review way back when.... I purchased this and I'm not disappointed. The preset mystery was the bonus that sold me. And the SuperClean has NO 60cycle hum.

I have it for almost a year now. I still don't get why the hell the "hidden" presets are actually hidden. If you want to use only the amp and not connect it to a PC via USB, you need to use the "Replace" function. If you decide to use the Fender software for this (and other Mustang amps), you can play a lot with presets. Cool tip: works on Linux (at least on Ubuntu-based distros) out of the box. You connect it to your computer (it also needs to be turned on of course :D) and select it as input (for example in Audacity). Then enjoy recording and mixing!

Sounds pretty cool to me. I think amps like this are great for beginners. They are exposed to a bunch of different guitar effects and tones. They can get an idea of what they like and the sound they are going for before committing to more expensive gear. If I had something like that starting out I would’ve been thrilled. Just for that VH tone itself. Is it perfect? No. But to just plug in and hear that tone would’ve been rad.

Makes me think I may have made the wrong choice when I purchased my first amp, a Katana 100 MKII 2X12. It was (comparatively) expensive, large, heavy, but most of all, the learning curve for somebody born before the advent of the internet is a bit steep. Just installing the software and getting my computer to communicate with the amp was a challenge. I've had it for a few months now and still have only scratched the surface of what it can do. I'm not dissing it at all, but for me it may not have been the wisest option. I'm seriously considering selling it and getting something like the LT25.

I updated mine yesterday and noticed an improvement in audio quality. It was never bad, just not great as a general use speaker until the update.

I don't get some of these comments here. shoot back in the old days, if you wanted a different guitar sound you had to go out and find yourself a different cigar box. Joking aside; this was just a review and an opinion, not a comparison or statement of what's the best. Other reviews I've seen are about the same. It sounds like a decent practice amp for the money. Jack of all trades, master of none and that's not a bad thing.

Fender modeling amps (like the lt25 and and mustang gt40 (the one that i have)) are legit the biggest bang for your buck amps out there. And it's not too hard to find them for under $250USD (not including shipping) on places like Reverb. It's basically a Swiss Army Knife of amps.

Loved this video! I’ve been looking for a small, lightweight practice amp to carry around now that my back makes dragging even my Katana 100 around a daunting task. The interface and your very clear explanation of how it works (including the secret presets) makes this look like the one for me. Thanks!

I have used and tried lots of Fender Mustang series modeling amplifiers and their Fender Supersonic preset was always very good. Quite similar to the "Lead" amp model of Boss Katana amplifiers.

Hey Colin. Loved the video on the LT25. Thanks for putting it out there. I’ve been playing drums since the late sixties and in the last few years I’ve been plunking away at bass guitar and acoustic guitar. I’m about to buy my first electric guitar and I am definitely going to pick up an LT25. Anyway, I digress! I noticed the device on your right arm and wondered what it is. The blinking light seemed to be in sync with the tempo when you were playing, so I thought maybe it could be a metronome. Steve from Charlottesville, Virginia.

Sounds very good, but for the money, and the tone all together, the regular Katana still rules in many aspects. That fender did have some nice tones , like the ZZ preset. But still, I’m Katana all the way.

I mean, the Katana isn't really a "beginner" model per-say, sure, it's the lower end range of the Boss Amps, but Boss isn't building it's amps to the beginner, sure they can be used in that format, but with all the effects modelling and the parameters available it can get overwhelming for a beginner, and there is the whole "It goes to stage volume" thing that most beginner amps won't have XD

I've always been a fan of the Bassman model, and used it almost exclusively. This model will give you everything from a nice clean to a bluesy crunch to a full on rock overdrive. Just from tweaking the amp controls.

I'm tired of all of you calling the LT25 a "beginner" amp. It's a high quality practice amp for players of all levels. I had a Katana 50 and sold it when I got the LT25, because it sounds better to me for the tones I want.

What bridge and saddle would you recommend as a replacement for a Harley benton sc-1000
@ithemba
@ithemba 5 жыл бұрын
not sure what you are referring to with bridge and saddle. if you are talking about the tune-o-matic style two piece bridge, then just pick up any gotoh or wilkinson bridge with metric measurements and 74mm distance and you'll be fine. thats about 30 - 40 bucks. the string bar probably does near to nothing for the sound (unless you listen to the gibson LP 50s original sound wizards who *swear* on their aluminium stop tailpiece making all the difference...), so just keep the one you got or if you really really have to change it, I say: go with the cheap ones, so harley benton for 13 bucks. If by "saddle" you mean the nut, then go for pre-slotted graph tech with the right measurement (take your width and make sure its the same width on the nut). they are pretty cheap, the pre-slotting will already fit in 8 of 10 cases and therefore you probably don't have to go to a luthier to get it cut properly and they are the best you can get for tuning stability and will last a lifetime.

@@somekindofmonkeyapprentice8697 Wilkinson generally are considered really good quality for the price, be careful though, internet is full with counterfeits for very cheap. Gotoh is also really solid built quality and widely available. If you ask me though, the differences between bridges are way less remarkable with TOM style bridges than for example with a strat or tele style vintage trem or whatnot. There a new bridge can immensely change feel, stability and sound even. With all my TOM style bridges, I couldn't tell you any differences between a original Gibson TOM or a Harley Benton TOM style.

When they sent it over I fully prepared to be frustrated by the control aspect (like almost every other product of this type) and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised with how easy and intuitive it was. It's almost mathematical: able to find sound + fewest button presses = more fun. This amplifier gets that. So many others don't.

Is it the best amp? No, not really. There are a lot of better options. But as a competition for a spider or other basic amp, it does quite a good job. The fact that the fx have so many settings gives this a boost for learning and experimentation. I don't need it for myself, but I dig it.
