Love this video. One question why can't you have it level left to right and have one drain off from the house to the lawn why do you need 3 levels. What is your opinion on laying porcelain on a concrete slab with a uncupling membrane using exterior tile adhesive and grout .

Thanks for videos John, apart from being very informative with lots of great tips they are also very entertaining we just love watching them. We are in the process of selecting our porcelain slabs for a new patio we liked the ones in Tippers 1200 x 600 and liked the laying pattern similar to the ones in your video laying the next layer 600 offset , however the lad in the shop said the slabs have a slight camber and we can only offset by 300 25% of the slab width. Your thought’s on this would be most appreciated

I’m in California, so I don’t know if things are just done differently, but I just had a contractor look at my new build dirt patio and say that I need to lay cement first before tile. He was giving me a quote for cement and artificial turf. Does that sound right? Is it a good idea to have cement first and then do the tile? Our land is new and the dirt is still softish. He’s doing other neighbors backyards with cement. But I wanted to get tile though, because it gets very hot here in the summer.

Hi, I actually had a meeting with. Phil Graves who works for Deltile in America 🇺🇸 and we talk about this topic regularly. But I am happy to do a Zoom and even put in touch with Phil who is in Texas. Regards John

Big fan of your vids, I did my patio last summer but one of my porcelain patio slabs have been badly chipped, what's the best way to lift and replace that one slab mate ?
@janinew233
@janinew233 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I would cut the middle of the slab out, so you have a square in the centre of the tile, then cut to the corners, then try getting leverage under the tile to lift it in pieces. With ceramic tiles I would normally put a hammer in the middle of the tile to crack it and lift it, but obviously porcelain tiles are tougher and you probably wouldn't be able to do this. There might be an easier way to do it, and I'm sure Jonny boy will correct me if I'm wrong.

@GreentopLandscapes
@GreentopLandscapes 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gregor thats a good question, its a well known fact that water can cause cracking in concrete but you need it to bind it all together and let the magic happen but its the compaction that gives the Lean mix its strength dont forget the hot weather but as long as it forms a ball and stays together thats good.

Hi GLD, I'm asking you because basically I dont trust the other cowboys on YT and you are by far the leaders in your field. I want to install a path using 600 x 600 x 20 porcelain slabs, the slabs will not be laid directly next to eachother, there will be a gap of 150mm all the way around of which I intend to fill with decorative 10mm pebbles. Currently the area is grass of which I intend to: 1 dig a trench and line the edges with timber. 2. line the trench with weed fabric 3. add mot type 1, compact 4. add sharp sand compact. Q1. now do I mortar directly on to the sand or do i need to screed a concrete base for each tile to set on? (obviously adding slurry to each tile) Q2. what depth do you recommend for layer of mot and sand please Q3. 40mm mortar thickness? Q4. if a concrete base is require for each tile what thickness should this be? many thanks and keep up the great videos
