In the first year of ownership of my Bulova Lunar Chronometer (96B258) it gained 2.2 seconds! In the second year, it gained an additional 4.8 seconds. Those 262 Khz quartz calibres are the real deal.👍

my Citizen CB-0021-57 E ( Eco drive, radio controlled ) is the most accurate watch I have, and also the cheapest. I did not not need to adjust the time, or the date since I bought it in 2016 for less than Euro 350. It always shows the correct time. Accuracy is quite important to me and I am not sure if with my other automatic watches from Longines and Mido which loose more than 2 seconds a day make me really happy.

I think many people don't realize that: 1) even low-grade movements can be regulated to COSC standards, it's just that nobody pays for the official stamp, 2) there's no such thing as a COSC watch. The certificate only applies to movements. The watch assembly and casing is going to have some impact and so will the fact that the watch is not worn in completely controlled conditions (unpredictable position, temperature, humidity and so on). -10/+10 seconds a day is completely within norm but it's more convenient if the watch runs a bit faster so that you can use hacking seconds to correct it.

I've had my SMP for about 6 months. Went on vacation last week and at the beginning I set it to the new state time. Went on 4 planes, offroading (constant hard vibrations), in water, in sun, in a sauna and after 5 days it didn't gain or lose even 1 second. Phenomenal.

My SMP runs reliably at +5spd. On or off the wrist, no matter the temp. My Aqua Terra runs with it .1-.2spd and my sub is similar to the AT. .2spd on an 8800 is very good, they tend to be a little less accurate than the 8900

I picked up a Bulova Precisionist 96B257, which has a high accuracy quartz movement and beats a very smooth 16 times per second. It's also 100m water resistant. The kicker was that Amazon's price briefly dropped to $206 (+ tax). It's not the prettiest watch, but it's a decent everyday wear one which you only have to set twice a year or so unless you cross time zone boundaries. If you really cannot stand inaccurate timekeeping I'd suggest a radio controlled watch. You have a choice of long wave radio, Bluetooth, or GPS.

I got into watches about a year ago. I've been buying entry level Swiss automatics (Tissot and Hamilton). Now I'm thinking about a vintage Omega Seamaster (either a "Calendar" or small seconds hand from 50s-60s) and a Longines Hydroconquest (41mm ceramic bezel) for my next two watches. At first I wasn't sure I'd like wearing a watch everyday but now I am obsessed. I've become a total Watch Guy. A year ago a watch was just a watch to me but now I have come to appreciate so much more about them. A year ago I also got into scotch. Next cigars. I'm becoming a proper gentleman. 😁

Thanks for the great video! And very interesting topic for me… I have had watches since I was a little child and when I only had quartz, I did not care about the accuracy at all. It wouldn’t make sense to, as they were of course just… accurate. When I bought my first mechanical timepiece ironically it became more important for me to have my watches as accurate as possible, I even log the accuracy data from time to time. That lead me to get a COSC certified chronometer (a newer version of the Tissot Ballade, also on your list), and now I got an Omega Speedmaster Professional with the METAS certified 3861 caliber - this is just amazing, very very accurate. And the funny part is that after I started to write the accuracy down, I realized that one of my older quartz models is just extremely accurate. Other quartz watches gain or lose some small time, 10-20 seconds a month or so, but this remained fully accurate in a 2 month timeframe. So I googled it and the ETA caliber inside is actually really accurate. Considering the very much friendly price and the overall very nice aesthetics (i bought it in the first hand because it was one of the most beautiful chronographs that I have seen so far until that point) I think that watch also deserves to be mentioned - at least in the comment section. It is the Claude Bernard Classic (1002)

I’m not an accuracy nerd, though I do keep a casual eye and enjoy doing that. Two of my most accurate watches are coincidentally the two watches I wear daily to work. I’ve got a rather physical job. One is a Ball Nightbreaker, the other a Hanhart Pioneer One. Each bought preowned, neither COSC,. The Ball is about as accurate as my METAS certified Omega, about +1/day. The Hanhart might be plus or minus 2seconds per day. It’s nice to have an accurate timepiece, but a well regulated Ball, Sinn I’m sure there are others that regulate a basic SW200 to well within COSC specs, as a typical baseline

You talk about plus or minus 30 seconds a month as the standard accuracy of a sub $500 quartz watch. I tested 30 different quartz watches during 2 months. Price range $100,- to $400,- . 80% of these watches were within plus or minus 5 seconds a month. So that is much more accurate than stated. I am talking primarily about Seiko, Casio and some Ronda movements. So I think it's fair to say that a decent quartz watch will typically operate within plus or minus 1 or 2 seconds a week.

One can "fine tune" a watch's time just by position it differently. My Mido runs about 1s behind if place 12 o'clock up and about 3s fast if placed dial up or wear it. So, if it gets too fast I can just keep it in vertical position and not wear for couple of days to slow it down some.

Citizen caliber 0100 accurate to 1 second a year, or the Citizen chronomaster accurate to 5 seconds a year. I'd say they rival or even beat the Grand Seiko quartz.

Hey Teddy I've been hooked on to your channel lately and would love it if you could check out this Indian watch brand HMT which have Citizen movement. They have some really good mechanical watches which are dirt cheap and probably the cheapest reliable mechanical watches ever made. Recommendation:- HMT Kohinoor/ Pilot/ Himalaya/ Saathi/Jhalak Rajat(no loger available but one of the best HMT ever made)
