Absolutely loved the collection of manual hand wind watches you included on here. I have a soft spot for these kinds of watches and my favorite I have is manual wind 1969 Citizen Alarm Date. Absolute stunner.

Great video, can say that I have the Nomos club with Date and is the watch that works for me. I have had Rolex, IWC, Oris and Breitling and this is the watch I will never sell. Universal, wearable, and just a perfect everyday watch on leather or Nato.

I concur that the exhibition case back is wholly unnecessary on the orient. The only manually wound watch I own is a vintage Wittnauer which is currently awaiting a replacement date wheel at my watchmaker. Thanks for the video.

Sorry I didn't comment on this earlier. Great video Armand. I wish there could be more coverage of manually wound watches. I like to wind my watch everyday and if given an option of movements I will always pick the manual wind.

Armand, speaking of radium paint and wire lugs, can you please consider a video on trench watches? I recently looked them up, and they're fascinating to me, as a transition point between pocket watches and wrist watches, but there seems to not be a ton of readily available information in them. They look stunning when restored, and most restored versions seem to go for $700 or so, which seems like a fantastic value to me.

Great review. I have a fondness for mechanical manuals and love all your choices, the Precista and in particular the Tissot, I’m lusting after at the moment. Do you know if the Heritage 1936 can be worn with any other band type other than Natos. It is already a hefty piece, only made thicker with the supplied strap.

I have a 1958 Rolex oyster thats manual. Later they called them oyster precision. Its fantastic. I now prefer manual except for dive watches that need a screw down crown for water proofing.

I really do like this list and I've seen this video a number of times. I would have included Timex Marlin, Seagull 1964, Junghans Max Bill and maybe the Junkers Bauhaus.

This video is helpful, but it doesn't cover the small independents, which (I personally find) bring an irreplaceable personal touch for relatively not that much money. For little more than 1000 Euro, you can get watches made by a real, small independent watchmaker - I'm talking about Jacques Etoile (that is the brand, the watchmaker is Klaus Jakob), then Tourby watches with their host of dials and customisation options; for a couple thousand more, you get a Dornblüth & Sohn, which has fantastic movement finish. Then, for something extraordinary, you have to take a look at Pascal Coyon (he's on Facebook only). They're mostly all based on the Unitas handwound movements, and certainly deliver a lot of bang for the buck (unless you're looking mainly for complications). All of those are real people you can talk to and get your watch personally even, if you like. If there's anything that speaks more of "pure", old school craftsmanship than that, I don't know what it is.

Do have an opinion on Vostok Komandirski? Can still be had for 50-60 USD new. From a value perspective that’s hard to beat.

With my 7.5 wrist the Nomos is not big, but the gap between the band and case seem odd. Otherwise a beautiful watch. Thank you.

I mostly detest nomos for their orthodoxy in Bauhaus. Respect them for being independent and being dutifully in-house, whilst not bejewelling like many. But can't want to own one. The featured nomos seems just right though.

Hamilton is owned by the swatch group, and the swatch group owns ETA. The new movement for the Hamilton is the same used in many new Tissot watches for example.

Love that Tissot, but I would have the Precista.

The Orient is the best of the lot. A Three Centre Hand manual wind, with a long minute hand, and an even longer second is considered the best of watches, loved by all seasoned collectors. A good example is the Grand Seiko SBGW series, running at 4Hz, with 72 hrs power reserve, and accurate to +1sec in 3 days (the one i owned). This type of mechanism is even rare in the Patek or Lange. so, my hat off for the Orient. Have decided to buy one for my collection, though the hands still fell a little short. I have seen longer ones in their vintage pieces.

quite a spread in price. orient=cheapaschips / nomos=yougetwhatyoupayfor... i like the tissot because of the unitas. the hamilton would be a solid choice. the monarch is ugly looking and why display the movement at all. nomos is too bauhaus for me. oh, and i'd never but a homage watch from eddie. yuck.
