Really love seeing such high praise for the Longines. I bought mine last year in 40mm with the black dial and the bracelet. Nothing comes close until you get to the Breitling B25 Datora which is considerably more money. The only negative I can think of is that it’s a scratch magnetic, as the only surface that isn’t high polished are the center links.

I tried on a Zulu Time while Christmas shopping last month. It's a watch that looks very nice online, but in person it blew me away. Longines knows their design and finishing.

The Longines reminds me of the Omega Speedmaster triple date, the only real difference to the dial is a lack of moon phase. The other difference is the price, which is (off the top of my head) about half that of the Longines. I have the Omega, I want the Longines as well.

The Longines is a great piece AND it's available in 40 and 42mm, the smaller one being the older version. It's based on a Valjoux 7751 movement, so if you don't like the design there are also watches from other brands to choose from.

I owned the Longines as shown but barely dial. Bought used for $1600 - crazy value for a column wheel chronograph, triple calendar. It is hard to read with the date hand easily confused for the minutes hand. It was early in my journey and I wanted to see what else there was but this one is still hard to beat.

I dumbed across this Longines at the airport in Cancun last year. Picked it up spontaneously, and it gets a ton of wrist time at the office. My version is white gioche (spelling?) with Arabic numerals, and the alligator strap is brown. I prefer the 1920’s style Arabic numerals on the dial. That configuration makes me think of Indiana Jones

It wouldn’t be an ‘investment piece’ so to speak, but it would be a worthwhile investment - you will have years of enjoyment of a beautiful watch and for that price-point, you won’t get a much better addition to your personal collection. It ticks a lot of boxes for collectors. If you want to find investment pieces, you need to specialise imo - know as much as you can about a couple of brands, extend your knowledge to all their models - and get very specific - understand their pricing and then you can hunt for bargains. *I make money selling vintage watches. Never not sold one at a profit.

Great choices. Almost all Longines are great value. I own the one you present here, and it's wonderful, it looks and feels so much more than it costs. It has one drawback in my opinion: I really don't like the rotating hand for the date, which can be confused with the minute hand, especially as they are of the same color. I wish they had done that differently. Besides that, it's pretty much perfect.

I have to agree with Tom on this one. I have the old white barleycorn dial version with the Arabic numerals and it really is making by brain hurt how Longines make much money on it. The chronograph is a column wheel as well! It's not the easiest watch to read at a glance as I find I just look at it to take it all in then have to look at it again to tell the time. The hands are different shapes between the time telling leaf hands and the chrono sticks though so that makes things a tad easier. Oh and the pain it gives me to change the date with our funny month days really is just the pull of the crown and a slight move anticlockwise, clockwise moved the moon phase. Easy.

I bought the Longines Spirit 40mm SS Blue dial 40mm time and date and man is this watch going back! Being a watch enthusiast I inspected the watch through a x10 loupe and although the dial was good enough the upper lugs had just terrible finishing. Imagine taking a metal file to the lug ends and flattening two angled surfaces into the lugs. The bottom lugs were perfect but the tops ones were just unacceptable. Plus the clasp on the leather bracelet had three dings in it. Unacceptable production quality on a brand new piece. My first good watch decades ago was Longines and I certainly won’t be buying from this brand again. I have a Tissot finished better than this. So disappointed it’s a lovely looking watch just very poor quality finishing.
