Not going to lie, this video is pretty brutal. - Hardware encoding is not ideal; it's faster but far less efficient (less quality at any given bitrate). - Target Bitrate is the average bitrate of the video, not the minimum. - When there's lots of fast motion you often need less bitrate since people won't be able to discern details during fast motion anyways (if you're interested in more details look up how CRF encoding works). - Even though youtube compresses video you still want to export in as high a bitrate as you can tolerate given your storage and upload limitations. No matter what video file you upload youtube will re-encode it, and the better quality the source file the better quality the KZfaq encode will be. Many youtubers even work on a 1080p timeline and then export the video at 4K; even though the source video isn't 4K in resolution youtube will detect the 4K export and allow for higher bitrates, thus higher quality.

I shoot and edit in 1080p, and I'm wondering if I should upscale to 2k, 4k or neither when exporting. I've heard that once you pass the 2k resolution, KZfaq gives you a better codec and bitrate for playback. My concern is, if you playback on KZfaq in 1080p, as is the default for most devices+internet speeds, it will look much worse than if I just exported in 1080 in the first place. Does resolution affect the algorithm?

Hello, I’m having some issues with my 4k60fps uploads on KZfaq, on smart tv’s it only renders them at 1440p, on any other devices works fine. The files are at 100 mbps bitrate, exported from premiere pro, vbr2, gopro10 is the source. The problem seems to be at all videos caught on the bike, at some videos caught walking, had not the issue.

I am exporting for KZfaq in HD/4K and seeing some compression when I upload. I am a travel vlogger with a lot of motion in my videos but the pixelated areas are strangely mostly on our faces and bodies, not the surroundings. I am exporting: H.264 format, 3840x2160, 29.97 frame rate, square pixels, render at max depth, VBR 1-2 pass, 80 bitrate, use max render quality. Every single upload I also get stuck in the "HD processing" for days (on 11-15GB files) so it takes a long time to even see that it's compressed and then I have to reupload and wait again. I have a video I've been trying to upload for a week so I am getting backed up on trying to post weekly without sacrificing quality. Any tips for either battling compression in HD/4K and/or getting HD/4K videos to upload faster without sacrificing quality?
