The Monogram model kit is exceptionally accurate, especially for 1978 when the star wars and star trek models were close but no banana. Comparing the Moebius and Monogram parts side by side and built, they are near identical. Were it physically possible to do, the built Moebius kit is a near-perfect-fitting skin over the Monogram built kit and the one could just fit in the other. And of course, Moebius went under and has been owned by Pegasus Models for the last several years.

I still have that aforementioned Monogram Viper, which I bought & put together in 1979. It has since been displayed on a shelf at home, gathering dust for 45 years, heh. Unfortunately I never got the Raider, Galactica or Basestar kits of that period. Just too much money for me as an early teen back then. However, I did get the Buck Rogers Starfighter, also bought & kitted at that same period, also gathering dust on the same shelf since. I even also kept their packaging boxes & instructions papers. Was there also a BSG shuttlecraft kit? I dont remember. 07/21/24
@battlestarcollectica71068 күн бұрын
No shuttlecraft kit BUT Monogram was working on more BSG kits before the show was canceled.
@robwebnoid57638 күн бұрын
@@battlestarcollectica7106 ... That's too bad, no shuttlecraft, would've been a nice little kit. If I recall correctly, the 2003 reimagined series made a quick homage to the '78 shuttlecraft in one of their early scenes. I am a fan of both bsg versions & now a 3rd version/iteration is supposed to be on the horizon, although there is really no concrete evidence. It is headed by Esmail & Simonds, according to newsbits. I do not have any of the reimagined scale kits.

This also included the galactica which i also have as the model tk be built. The only down side to the prebuilt model is the visible seam lines in the body that i would have renoved had i built it myself. Other than that, it's a great piece

I actually have this kit in the box and just looking at your video of the pre-built kit the weathering it looks like crap especially the four airbrushed spots towards the front and then they didn't even bother sealing up the seam down the middle on the top where the red stripe is. Glad I didn't spend the extra money on this.

@battlestarcollectica71065 ай бұрын
Thanks for letting me know that. I wonder why they skimped out with the display model??
@damagedink15 ай бұрын
Easier to build without the landing gear. And would be very delicate, the landing gear and the doors could be knocked off during shipping. I think most people would rather have it in flight mode, that’s how I always imagined it. I added lights to the engines and beefed up the display stand because it was really flimsy.

Yes, the kit is identical to the finished model you show, sans assembly and paint of course. However, the KIT did come with optional landing gear and the rear exhausts are molded in clear so you can light up the engines if you want. A skilled model builder can do a much better job with the kit than the finished model, as a good builder will fill in the seams and gaps. The "spotty" weathering on the nose isn't all that good either. Moebius uses those clear stands, reminiscent of the ancient Aurora style, on all their kits whereas Round 2 uses a far more sturdy solid metal post and dome base with their Star Trek, Star Wars, and Space:1999 kits. It's too bad one cannot post pictures here, as I could show you. Can't even post links, so there's no way to demonstrate any of what I'm saying. Do you have a Fascistbook page that we can share stuff on?

I have the Eaglemoss MKII & MKIII (Blood & Chrome) Vipers. They are heavy, very well detailed and worth having your collection, especially the MK-III as Moebius did not produce one, that said, the MOEBIUS model kits in my opinion are the Gold standard for all things BGS currently, both the Vipers & Raptor (which I also have) are superior in their detail/panel lining, your option of landing gear down or up, resin pilots for the Vipers and detailed plastic pilots on the raptors, the decals are good quality as well. The only downside to Moebius now is the ridiculous prices the kits are going for now, especially the Pegasus.
