Bissell Steam Shot: amzn.to/3oFOeet

Does a Steam Cleaner actually work on removing dirt and grime from grout? This was a question that I had for a couple years now and decided to purchase a Bissell Steam Shot and put it to the test on a tiled bathroom which hasn't been deep cleaned for probably about a decade.

This inspired me. We have a generic steamer and some aged grout. When it dries, you can really tell the difference. it is laborious work though. I recommend knee pads and patience -- and yes, a sealant afterwards.

Just what I needed thanks. For maintenance, always do your last mopping with a near dry mop with clean water only no product. its the water from dirty mop plus residue from chemicals that makes the grout dirty. Ajax with bleach also does a great job to clean the grout. spread Ajax it with water and leave it for 20 mins then just mop it up. the steam should get rid of anything left over. I think im going to try the steam tomorrow

When we built our house 13yrs ago we spoke to all of our friends about grout etc and really took on board their suggestions. We went with a medium to dark grey grout for our tiled areas. We don’t have many areas that are tiled, just the two toilets, bathroom and laundry. Everyday I clean the floors with an Aussie product called Koh, and once a week I hand scrub the tiles and grout using the Koh and after I finish with their new product called Protect that sanitises the area for up to 7 days. Once a fortnight or month I will get my steamer out and do the grout with that.

I’ve have cleaned floor tile grout with bicarb and vinegar and an old toothbrush, it’s time consuming but so addictive as you see that grime lift off and it comes up almost brand new. (In case anyone is wondering, you sprinkle your bicarb generously into the grout lines, spray with vinegar and after the bubbling has subsided you gently scrub with the toothbrush.) Anyway, this steam method looks like it takes the same amount of time and has the same effect as the bicarb method. However, it is definitely less messy, and what I like is that you can do wall tiles - vinegar and bicarb doesn’t work as well on wall tiles because the solution slides off and you don’t get that deep bubbling reaction when the vinegar hits the bicarb. Thanks for the video, it’s exactly what I was looking for and I’m off to buy one, especially as I know you can buy replacement brushes! I reckon it might be good for window tracks, too!

I recommend sealing the grout to avoid having to clean deeply as you did. Those hand held steamers don't last long. I obtained a large one for $99 and still seeing how long it lasts. The brushes don't last no matter the size. That's understandable. Use it on the stove and the range hood. Cleaning the toilet seat hinges is made especially easy.

FYI: In order to get that brand new look in the grout, you might consider doing this. Spray Tilex (foaming action not Tilex mildew) directly on ALL of the area that you want to look new. Wait for about an hour, THEN use a steamer. Preferably a steamer with the cloth attachment used for hard surfaces. You'll be incredibly ASTONISHED😲!

Vinegar breaks down the calcium in the grout. Use a neutra ph cleaner. I just watched Retro Active Lifestyle video ‘How to clean grout’ and he explains it, he is a professional floor cleaner.

Vinegar will start to break down your grout and it'll make it crumble and disappear. Use a pH neutral cleaner for grout.

Sometimes it's helpful to have some small amount of water mix with the steam. For really disgusting stuff that's stuck on. Turn the machine upside down for a few seconds to get a blast of scalding hot water. It works well.

clean up that grout really good then seal it with grout sealer with a couple or a few coats. use a foam brush. let the sealer dry between coats. a little time consuming but it will keep your grout from getting brown like it as before you cleaned it. if the grout does get dirty it will clean up much easier.

Omg that steam shot had my back hurting. I really regret getting the light grout. Never again.

Thanks for video. Based on your experience with the Steam Shot I went out and bought one. Going to give it try. Have my fingers crossed. I spent a week with Bar Keeper, Dish Soap, and scrub brush which worked but it was misery rubbing out the grim. Pro Tip . . . don't wait 11 years to clean your grout.

Old fashion mop will do as good and you don't have to pre-clean it with cleansers. Try a better steamer.

I use drillbrush and vinegar cleaner and it seems to be much quicker. What I'd like to do though is combine the method on this video with mine. Probably much easier. :)

Soak the grouts with a mixture of chlorine and soda and than steam them. The result will be much better.

Does it make sense to seal the grout after you’ve cleaned it?

Absolutely the grout protector sits on the surface, stoping dirt from penetrating too deeply. Although the protector will start to ware away after a while, when you redo the grout protector, the grout cleaning will be much easier, then if you never protected it.e.g I’ve had my tiles down for two years and with a good weekly clean my grout still looks new, hope this helps.

Always vacuum instead of sweep because sweeping doesn't pick as much dirt and debris up.
@SomethingxXxSpanish

Right vaccums pick up super fine particles and sweeping will just push more dirt and dust into the grout lines.

Who are you looking at? lol. But I just bought one of these and the manual says not to put more than 10oz of distilled water into it, yet the included cup has a line at 6.6oz., so you'd think if it can actually hold 10oz, then the cup should be lined at 10oz.

If you need to stop and fill it in between jobs, do you have to let it cool down since it is pressurized?
@EverydayHomeRepairs

Yes, there can be built up pressure and you should use caution when opening the top cap.
