What's the best way to fasten subfloor? In this video I discuss 4 options we've used over the years and then which method we use today. To me if we are going to make the decision to use a high-quality subfloor like Advantech, then we should use a high-quality glue and the right fasteners.

Very nice job! I've not yet seen a similar comparison, so this is really handy. I only wish I could have found this video back when I started laying the subfloor for my workshop. I knew up front that I was going to use screws instead of nails. Because I was not sure of the screw gun attachments, I went with a compromise: deck screws with a drill attachment. It was not fun; fortunately the floor was not that big. I'm a big fan of both Fastenmaster and Simpson, so I know what my next project will use.

Love all the content from the Awesome Framers - can you point me to a good floor layout video? Forgive my ignorance- I still can’t figure the 16 OC layout from opposite sides of the girder. If the joists are lapped then does the “break in” line change when you cross the center of the structure? THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!

For us newbies, I was wondering what length of nails are a good choice to attach the flooring to the floor joists! And what type of nails.....ie, Galvanized, Stainless Steel, Ring Shank or Bright Smooth Shank? I’m in a tropical area close to the ocean. Thanks!
@AwesomeFramers
@AwesomeFramers 3 жыл бұрын
generally for 3/4" subfloor a 2 1/4- 2 1/2" nail is used. If you are close to salt water a lot of jurisdictions require stainless. Go with ring shank.
