Oh this video is so welcome!! I live in Detroit Area and when we moved to this house our 1 acre lot was covered in Buckthorns. I hand dug most of them in Spring or Fall when the soil is wet. Their roots aren’t deep. It took me about 3 years and we are still not done

Buckthorns are so invasive here in Illinois too...

I use the concentrated RoundUp tinted blue in an envelope dauber. Gives me way more control, plus the solution can be used day after day without mixing up more.

Excellent advice here! I have 1.5 acres in Illinois FULL of buckthorn! I’ve been cutting them back and ripping out roots & stumps for 3 years.

Very helpful. We just moved onto an acre lot covered in the stuff. Kind of overwhelming.

I've started ridding our acre of buckthorn using your technique but placed the concentrate in a foaming pump bottle dispenser with blue dye added. Knowing I would lose track of treating cut stems, I used plastic flagging tape tied around stems/trunks about 8"-10" up from the ground and proceeded to cut only those flagged, then started at those cut closest to the middle of the area and applied the blue foam to the cut edges, working my way out from the middle as I treated them. I intend to take my Pullerbear to them as I find the time but there is a great deal of satisfaction in knowing those buggers are dying in the meantime. One important tip I received from my primary care doc when I told her I was tackling the buckthorn was to always wear gloves when handling them. If you receive a puncture wound from the thorns anywhere near a joint, you stand a good chance of developing arthritis in that joint and surgery is required to clean out the area. From her personal experience so she had my attention.

Tordon Herbicide also works very well as is about the same price as Roundup.

Thank you! I am continuing to learn.🌿 Am going to try this on copious mimosa trees. Love them, but not when they sprout everywhere.

Such a helpful video! Thanks for all the tips! How do you feel about the buckthorn baggies for bigger trees or trying the stumps with heavy duty bags?

It might work if you have a couple of trees - but if you have a lot it is far too much work and too much plastic.

How do you get rid of the ones that spout inside the beds? Do you hand pull those? Can you believe my neighbors left and right all LOVE their Buckthorns because they think it’s cheap privacy plantings? In fact they where mad with us when we started to get rid of ours

Use the same method in beds - only the treated stem is affected.

Wow, I'm glad my neighbors took on the project to get of all their buckthorn, and I have too. Now we have lovely flowers and shrubs on our property line. 🙂

I have the Super Concentrate but I can’t see where it gives g/l measurements. It just says “2.5 fl. oz. of the concentrate to 1 gallon of water”. How does that translate to the concentration you use? Your videos are awesome by the way. Thanks!
@teedilo4902
@teedilo4902 Жыл бұрын
I think I answered my own question. G/l is apparently grams per liter. My label says 3.6 pounds of glyphosate acid per gallon. I found that the conversion is 3.6 pounds / us liquid gallon = 431.375 grams / liter. So apparently my concentration is a bit lower than your farm grade product. So I assume I need a little more product than water to get the concentration that you use. Thanks again for an awesome video. I’ve seen a few other videos of yours and what I’ve seen is so good and helpful.

I used to use concentrated round up but they just don’t carry it in stores in Ontario any more! Can you recommend a source? Klaus

Can I use any brand of concentrated brush killer? Does it have to be Roundup?

Other brush killer products also work - follow directions on the label. They are not available in many areas do to regulations.
