I planted some tomatoes in my garden they're producing in abundance. From last couple of years i was giving away the excess tomatoes to my neighbors and friends that i can't use. This is really good way to store in large quantities. I thought about making tomato powder but i was sceptical about it that it might get rot just like it happens with chilli powder but this way seems good to me.

FANTASTIC. SO easy. SO simple. I too like leaving seeds in tomato recipes. Never understood the reason for removing them. Skin neither, if it can be processed down to nothing. When I make my own tomato soup, I leave the skin and seeds in. The taste is fantastic. Thank you so much for this. It's exactly what I was looking for.

Is heating a necessary step in this process??
@poonamskitchen
@poonamskitchen 4 жыл бұрын
Yes Rohit, heating is necessary. We need to get rid of the extra water so that it can stay in the freezer for a longer time. Secondly heating reduces the volume of the pureed tomatoes making it more practical to store

Hi poonam I m surely trying out this method. jst a query is cling paper a must to use for this recipe. Also could I make dhaniya puree in d same way? plz reply to my query.
@poonamskitchen
@poonamskitchen 6 жыл бұрын
Roopa, cling film is not a must for this method. The tray is covered with wrap just so that it is easy to remove the frozen cubes. If you do not cover the tray/plate with cling wrap, just leave it outside on the kitchen shelf for a few minutes (after cubes have frozen). The cubes can then be separated easily and removed from the tray. You may use aluminium foil to cover the puree and then freeze. Covering with something is important so that there is minimum ice formation in the puree, and also there is no cross flavoring with other food items in the freezer.

Thanx poonam for a quick reply 😊 But wht abt dhaniya puree can i follow d same way? Also sometimes der is power cut for hours, wil it harm d cubes?
@roopabhavsar82
@roopabhavsar82 6 жыл бұрын
I would request u to make dhaniya puree video for storing as in monsoons they become as expensive as tomatoes. Also what is d best way to store whole onions as I cant imagine cutting too many onions at a go.
@poonamskitchen
@poonamskitchen 6 жыл бұрын
You are welcome!! Yes, you could store dhaniya the same way, you will need to add little water to the blended leaves to make it in puree form. And needless to say, you are not gonna cook it!! Just puree and freeze! One should avoid freezing food during the season when there is long power cut, or freeze in smaller quantities. Repeated thawing and freezing of food affects the quality
@roopabhavsar82

Thanx again. But in India difficult to predict power failure, especially in monsoons. Will try in small quantities.

What is the rationale behind cooking the tomato puree? Isn't it easier to just portion it out and freeze?
@poonamskitchen
@poonamskitchen 6 жыл бұрын
There are two reasons for cooking the puree. First, the volume of the puree reduces quite a lot after cooking. Hence a large quantity can be stored in the same amount of space in the freezer. Secondly, cooking the puree helps reduce the water content in it, thereby preserving it. This would increase the life of puree in the freezer. And not to forget, the amount of time saved on a large number of occasions, with the ready to use puree at hand!

Can't we directly preserve into container in a freezer after it gets cooled is it necessary tray method??
@poonamskitchen
@poonamskitchen 7 жыл бұрын
Yes you can preserve directly in a container with partitions, like an ice cube tray. It is important that small portions are frozen so that you can thaw only the quantity that you need. The tray method is suggested because it eliminates the need for any special container.

Thanks a ton for making these and sharing your feedback. As per researches, frozen food stays in its best quality for up to an year, provided your freezer is working good. (No thawing and refreezing cycles) I have used these for a max of 5-6 months, with best results. (There is always a limit to how much you can cook and store!!)
