Don't waste your money on expensive butane gas. With the right adaptor, any propane tank can be used to refill your lighters and torches. I recommend those made out of plastic. The metal one looks better, but they are not. These are very hard to find tho. Look for "Airsoft Propane Filling Adapter ." Be aware that propane gas is more powerful than the Butane. You will have to lower the intensity of the lighter jet.

FOR THOSE CURIOUS. HE IS USING AN "AIRSOFT GREEN GAS PROPANE ADAPTER" !!!!!!!! same size hole!!! We use them playing airsoft for our gas powered guns, propane is cheaper than special airsoft gas.

This is extremely dangerous as propane is stored at much higher pressures than butane. Filling a butane torch with propane can lead to a fire or explosion.

Idk man, I know butane refills all have propane anyways and I know theres a little butane in those smaller cylinders and they're a good 20 psi lower pressure than the stuff they fill BBQ tanks with, at least here, it's still a big difference between that propane and even an isobutane/propane mix camo gas. More than twice as much roughly

As from a well trained/educated manufacturing engineer, it looks like the yellow/tan colored adapter was manufactured by a typically available 3-D printer. Maybe that's the only single way for us to create this wonderful plastic adapter. The only thing is for someone in power to release a link to the proper program.

The pressure difference is not safe. If you using a steel high dollar butane torch its a bit more safe, but I wouldn't make this common practice. Different fuels exist for a reason.

Thats true if you expose the lighter to high temperatures but that is pretty unlikely. Safety aside, The problem with using propane in a lighter is that it effects the quality and reliability of the lighter. It can also gunk it up faster. Its fine on a cheap lighter but if you want your lighter to last you wont do this. You shouldn't even use regular butane in a lighter, it should be minimum 3x refined. I have 5x colibri butane and even that has issues on some of my lighters. Even though it is 99.5% butane I will not use that on a my $2000 st dupont. I just purchased 11x refined butane for it. It sounds nit-picky but the price difference is negligible compared to hundred+ dollars you typically pay for a decent torch lighter. If you are refilling a crappy throw away lighter go for this method all day long. But when it eventually doesnt light and has a bunch of issues then you know why.

Well put, would specify those same stats for maintaining lighter sanity. The second largest adapter in most brand butane can caps will allow filling the cans directly from propane cans if you bend the Schraeder valve stem about 1.5 mm off center; it plugs the receiving adapter hole otherwise when trying to fill.

I dont understand this because butane is cheaper than propane.... If you want to show me butane canisters designed for lighters that are more expensive than propane that is because they are typically higher quality. You dont really want to use hardware store butane in a lighter anyway because it is not refined and will destroy your lighter. If you are just comparing the gases and price, however, you can get a large canister and get it filled with butane for cheaper than propane. But again, I bought a case of 12 canisters of 11x refined butane online for $90cad. This is enough butane for my lighters for probably the next 10-15 years. Not exactly something I worry about price wise. The lighters are the larger price and putting in stuff that will destroy them over time is a lot more expensive.

@@johnsims5330I use map gas in my shop for different things and I am very glad I have not been able to refill mini torch with map because about 2 months ago I filled a three flame torch that was about the size as 2 c cell batteries the tank was about that size and like a fool I was trying to adjust the flame while I was sticking it and I must have adjusted it out far because as soon as it lit, the filler tube and adjustment screw blew out the bottom of it and set my hand arm stomach and chest on fire and I also had a bunch of smoking hair on my face and head. I received 2nd degree burns on 11% of my upper body and to the point of this book I wrote just to say butane is hot enough when you are actually burning from it, .. lol but my dumb ass is wondering if I can get map to work.

This is not a good idea, lighter fuels are a blend of butane and other higher boiling point hydrocarbons with vapor pressures of about 30-50psi at room temperature, the fuel on those canisters is almost pure propane which has a vapor pressure of about 135psi at room temperature and almost 200psi at body temperature so your lighter might leak or explode, also the oxygen to fuel ratios are slightly different as well so it might not work properly. You ain't cheating the system you are endangering yourself and others.

propane for butane lighters?? had no idea that would work , maybe for cheap lighters but not for the expensive ones where you might risk clogging it i mean how pure or refined is propane? not much i would think

I find it strange you are using propane to refill a butane lighter or torch. Propane is about 123 psi at room temperature while butane is 30 psi. This difference is enough to either burst the seals or rupture container and even if it doesn't it will eventually in hotter weather.

@@goldenguardian2836 Russian roulette is not a fun game to play especially with combustible gases. Butane lighters at room temperatures average 30 psi with 100% butane, when mixed with liquid propane pressures exponentially increase beyond the lighters engineered maximum safe pressure of under 50 psi at 110 F or less. 30% mix of propane to 70% butane already reaches 50 psi at room temperatures. 75 psi propane at 50% to 50% butane 85 psi propane at 70% to 30% butane 110 psi propane at 100% What will eventually happen as the lighter at room temperatures is left under these pressures (assuming it hasn't burst yet) and suddenly the weather warms up.
@jeffb329

The bernzomatic cans have some butane so they're like 100psi at room temp. And no butane refill is pure butane they're all about 40-50psi at room temp. That propane in a cold room is same pressure as regular butane refill in a hot garage. But I agree that its too big a difference. huge difference though it's legit twice as much.
@googlesbitch
@googlesbitch 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeffb329 Manufactures may use a different mixes of gas but they also use a proprietary type of fitting to insure no direct connection can be made. Examples of this is MSR isopro , snowpeak giga power, and jet boil jet power that all use similar mix ratios of propane to butane. The purpose of adding propane is to allow operation at cooler temperatures that butane would not be able to. As your assumption that Bernzomatic uses butane with a 100 psi room temperature is impossible since 100% propane is around that pressure. The only 100% butane sold by Bernzomatic is their small lighter refill bottles, they aren't foolish enough to sell to the public a mix gas which raises pressures to dangerous levels.
