The following is an overview of why ONR is better and safer then soap will ever be. Lubrication-, ONR lubricates through all phases of washing, washing with soap provides lubrication while the suds are on the paint, but then it gets rinsed off, and the drying process has no protection. Water is by definition a solvent, so with a soap wash you are trying to dry with a solvent that has high surface tension, ONR has a very low surface tension, and provides exceptional lubrication for all phases of the washing experience. Precision-, when using ONR you still see the paint, and you see if you have missed anything, unlike when a car is washed with suds, and you see those little 1/2 moons or triangles where a spot was missed. If you miss a spot with ONR you see it before drying. Waste management- With soap (and other brands of rinseless washes) a 2 bucket method is needed to safeguard the paint. ONR is a very powerful water softener that drops all dirt out of suspension, dropping it out of harms way. If you wash with another product you will see that dirt floats in the wash solution, that is dirt you pick up and bring back to the paint with your wash media of choice. With ONR a single bucket is all that's needed, plus you can use the same water to wash numerous vehicles, no need to change after every car. Ease of use- ONR works well with all wash mediums(Sponge, Mitt, Micro fibre) and is fast and easy to use, no need for 2 buckets, wet bay, water reclaim. or other complicated items, just your washing media, 1 bucket and your drying media. Body Shop Safe- ONR unlike many car wash soaps and rinseless washes does not use silicones to give it a false or temporary feeling of slickness. ONR's unique blend of polymers allows for safe and residue free washing in all environments. Labour Savings- ONR reduces labour times considerably over traditional soap and water washing. Less time spent rinsing, less time washing. less time drying. Water Savings- Less rinsing means less water use, no big explanation needed. Versatility- ONR should be in every detailers tool box, at the standard 256/1 dilution ratio it can be used to wash exteriors, used to clean interiors, glass, in your steamer (reduces the need for cleaners, think of it as supercharging your steamer), for clay lube, not to mention around the house. At stronger dilutions it can be used as a waterless wash, waterless wash, and quick detail spray.

My car gets absolutely filthy (my office is located on a farm out in the country, so I have to drive down country roads where tractors have been, and then I have to drive through two fields where sheep and cattle are grazing - lots of muck!) so I absolutely have to use pressure hoses to get it off. Wiping it off is a no go - the towels will just be covered in muck and you'll just be spreading the muck around. I'm hoping that the office will be moved soon, so by the time I get my Model 3 (2018-19, I've reserved but only last week) I can use this method!

You did a perfect video about this method. It really works great on our Model x. like your friends car, he and I share that same color and our is wrapped in eXcel as well. I wanted to answer a few questions about really dirty cars or even salt covered for this who have asked. If your lucky you can find a Touch Free carwash, not a touchless. This will remove the bulk of crud on your car and really help with then using your method in one's garage. I hate swirl or small scratches and the product you show here works perfectly, plus they offer a solution that has wax to really make the paint pop. hope this helps.

if you have properly dirty car, this method is a no go. The whole point of using a lot of water is to remove as much hard particles out of the paint surface as possible. next step you want to foam the car to dissolve some of the grease away. This method can only be used as a third step, but I would not use just a towel. I have noticed that his car was initially hardly dirty.
@bryanburnworth2630

The car was very dirty. :) I've been using ONR for over 5 years. I wash my cars 80% of the time with ONR and have no issues with marring or scratching. If your car is excessively dirty, a quick hose rinse wont hurt.

My car was extremely dirty. Just came back from an 800 mile trip, but perhaps the silver color is just good at hiding it.

I agree with you. I think if ONR was used with proper technique, it won't scratch. However, if you rinse and foam your car prior to touching the paint with a towel, the chance of scratching would be significantly reduced. It is a matter of how to balance risk of scratching against saving water.
@ModernLady
@ModernLady 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t call it dirty when you can still see that the car is white and not grey. I think maybe this method could work during summer, but not in winter with salt, dirt and black snow.
@michaelesposito9362

I'd be interesting in seeing this method on a black X. Unless you are perfect with the towel flips (and he wasn't in the beginning on the hood) you will be dragging dirt across other areas of the car. Your silver X is beautiful and can take this method without issue but I would be very afraid to try this on my black X. Love your videos - I think they are great. They got me through the long waiting period.

Michael, ONR is safer then just about any other car wash method if done properly. I've ONR'd over 100 Tesla's and more then a few of them are black MS's. :) I've also taught all of my cleint's how to do ONR washes on their OCP'd Tesla's and none of them complain about excessive swirls. You can also pre-rinse if that makes you feel better or you can mix up 1oz of ONR in a 32oz spray bottle with water and "pre-treat" prior to ONR.

I wholly dispute the water use numbers you give.. I can assure you that by using a hose with a nozzle I can wash my Tesla with a little more than the 4 gallons you use with that chemical based wash.. and furthermore, that wash can NOT be used on a dirty vehicle .the vehicle MUST be pre rinsed using water and soap.. there is no substitute for dupont #7 cash wash.. I've been using that for over 20 years.. what do you do when the car has been hit by multiple bird droppings? pre-wash.. also.. how do you wash the tires and wheels?

does this method work if it's really cold and there is salt residue left on the car from the street when it snows? I'm in Chicago so in the summer I can wash my car outside but in the winter no way.
@bryanburnworth2630
@bryanburnworth2630 8 жыл бұрын
When dealing with salt residue, I suggest rinsing off first to prevent swirling of your clear coat. If the temp is below freezing, you could have issues with the solution freezing to the paint. If working out of a garage in the winter time, I use warm water in the buckets. That way your hands stay warm.

Bryan Burnworth so rinse off with a separate rag? It would be kinda hard to rinse it off with a hose in the drive way when it's 10 below and snow on the ground.

What's with the dark windows in the model X? Doing something embarrassing in the back seat? Hiding a poor person you kidnapped and tied up for ransom? What if I wear a mask while I'm driving my car? How would that look? Dark windows should be banned. They block the view of those behind and on the side. A view that's needed for safe driving.
