I noticed your highlight dies after blending. Would blending the lighter area first be better so the tool isn't coated in graphite by the time you get to it?
@nou257
@nou257 6 жыл бұрын
yes you can do that, but you can also use kneadable erasers to remove some excess graphite
@kayleighbrandon2173
@kayleighbrandon2173 6 жыл бұрын
K.Tugs Yes, I use blending stumps and will always start in the lighter area. I find going back with a kneadable eraser can give you a harder edge or uneven highlight that you have to blend anyway, which is fine for some things. Also, I use a little sanding block to freshen the tip of my blending stumps when it gets grubby.

When I start in the lighter areas sometimes I get lines in the highlights instead of smooth transitions.

@@nou257 yes! i use my gomme to dab my highlight, starting fairly heavy-handed at the center and gradually lightening my pressure as i move outwards in the shape of the highlight (usually a circular or curved motion.)

My favorite way to blend pencil is probably the blending stump followed by the paint brush. My least favorite is the tissue or chamois because I feel my finger gets in the way and I have less control. The only exception to this is a very large background or a quick page cover to get some value down to start with. One thing I’d like to mention is here in the US they have tissues that are infused with lotions and I don’t recommend those because they leave an oily residue behind in my experience. They have to be plain tissues. Great video with lots of useful tips got graphite artists.

I always used blending stumps and tortillons to blend graphite even though darker lines always show up every time i use them to blend and i can never remove them even with a kneaded or regular eraser. I bought some dollar store water color paint brushes i have used to blend 8B graphite pencils which seem to work when i want to use lighter shades. I havent tried using tissue but i recently started using qtips to blend graphite so far my drawings look more cleaner/well blended using qtips no harsh lines
