As a Senior Citizen, lady in my 60's, I just installed this by myself. I was a little intimidated but boldly ordered the 12000 BTU creature. I was able to install the unit by myself without any problems. It is heavy but not terrible. If you have pets or livestock you're probably used to carrying around 50 pound bags of food like I am. This didn't seem much heavier. I'm not very big so probably the worst of it was reaching around the box to carry it in the house. I found that after I had unboxed the thing it was much easier to lift & handle. The instructions, although lengthy, are simple and I just plodded along thru the installation. I wish I'd purchased it a year ago.

I bought and installed this unit myself and it's been fantastic. It cools down my kitchen AND my living room all the while being incredibly quiet. The people complaining about the installation don't realize that every window is different so it's really impossible to make one AC that fits every window in the world without cutting some custom foam pieces yourself or use a caulking seal to close any seams and cracks between the window and the AC. As for the weight imbalance... what do you expect??? It puts the noisy part on the outside and the fan on the inside. It's an AC you have to install in the window not a gym weight dumbbell. If you want evenly balanced weights, go to the gym that's what they were designed for.

That's great to hear Steve! On average, most Window Air Conditioners are around 40 pounds in weight, whilst the Midea U-Shaped A/C is weighted in at around 67 pounds, significantly more difficult to install. The bracket included though, makes it much easier as you can rest it on the bracket. Also - my Unit was one of the earlier versions that included much less foam, newer shipments have included more foam more recently according to my sources.

Bought one of these, 12,000 BTUs, great purchase. Very quiet, quieter than any AC you ever owned. Cleaning takes more time than what you take on regular window AC'S. Like that you can use an app to control it, you can have it running before you reach your house. Another thing is that it barely consumers electricity.

I had no problem installing the unit myself to be honest. Saw in the video that many gaps were not filled by foam as well. They provide a large variety of insulating materials with this AC. If you take your time and use the foam tape effectively, I'm convinced that even ants couldn't get past it if it's running (otherwise they might be able to walk up the drainage tube)

Had this AC for 2 years now. The #1 problem by far are the gaps on the underside, which I had to solve by cutting many small pieces of foam to the correct size and squishing them into each individual gap. Really tedious and annoying. Smaller issues: The directional fins are too small to really make much difference in the direction of the air, and the swinging lid (to simulate a breeze) doesn't swing enough to make much difference, it needs to swing downward more, otherwise you only feel a change if you above the unit, straight on you feel no change. Lastly, the unit beeps too loudly when pushing the buttons, quite ironic how the quietest AC out there is one of the loudest beeping ones you're likely to find.
@artcasbah4218
@artcasbah4218 3 жыл бұрын
Personally the foam issue is a non-issue. You can always take just about any packaging foam (free option) you find or go buy a little insulation foam, cut it to size with a box cutter or kitchen knife to fit all the nooks and crannies in the window next to the AC. If you really want it to look professional use caulking seal not tape. Enjoy

Installed this unit yesterday solo, I'm far from a buff guy but it wasn't a ton of effort to lift into the window onto the included bracket. The bracket makes installation pretty straight forward as it holds it for you as you slide it into its proper place. Sealing these things into a window is never perfectly straight forward unless you're lucky; always expect having to get some scissors out and cut your own foam in there to seal things up good. It's a great buy!

I just got the current year version of the Midea U-shaped A/C and I'm about to install it. In the section titled "Winter Storage" the User Manual says, "If you plan to store the air conditioner during the winter, ..." and then gives instructions on how to store it. But the "If" makes the phrase conditional, and they don't say anything at all about what to do if you don't plan to store it. The air conditioner is too heavy for me to remove from the window myself. And I also don't have space to store it anywhere. So I'd like to just leave it in the window year round. Have you heard from anyone who's done that, and what their results have been?

Likewise. Did not feel like this was "extremely difficult". If anything it was incredibly easy compared to most window units, as it came with a supporting bracket in the box. It's not that much heavier or awkward than comparable units, I'm only 5'10" 170 and I can lift it by myself. If you cut the foam correctly you won't have gaps in the sides and need tape. From seeing many reviews the bracket hangs much further out than necessary. I've read that you can shorten it, but you would need to be comfortable with having atbit with a hack saw or equivalent as it isn't designed to be shortened. I read the bracket is for multiple size units and assume any less than the 12 btu unit will have extra hang. Look on Amazon reviews and you'll see pics with thr extra rail hanging out.

@@Bluecrabsandsushihi. Some printers do give duty-cycle information. Actually, I think most of us really want to know the life expectancy of the things we buy, and of course that depends on the actual amount to time we are operating or utilizing the item. For A/C units, in particular, this is very useful information.

@@ianmccluskey2293 I still have the AC. Still love it. I've since tested it on the Kill A Watt meter. It's unbelievably efficient. 365 watts when the compressor is on. (12,000 BTU 120v unit) I've since purchased two more one in my wife's office and one in mine. As for the remote, it's not that I can't get it to interact with the AC, it's that the functions don't seem to work. I use the app on my phone to control it, instead. But I am using the remote on the other side of the room sitting on my bedside table because it also acts as a remote temp sensor, so in that regard it's very nice. The remote functions themselves are either overly complicated or non-functioning. The app works better for me. I haven't tried the remotes on the new units since the app lets us control all three.

Are you in a hot humid climate? I installed this unit in Alabama in an RV.. It has problems controlling humidity so far. In fact I wonder if it has some flaws causing humidity not to go down even after running a whole day. I love how quiet it is though..

Mine is in RV in Missouri and dehumidifier and cools wonderful. I did have to pitch it at a greater angle towards the outside ground than what the book said to drain properly. There was an issue with many of these being damaged internally from the home delivery. I was surprised my unit did not from the way it looked when Amazon delivered it. Then after the hoops I had to engineer to install in bedroom slide out window, I definitely had my fingers crossed that it would work properly. So far I love it. It gets humid here with the heat too, maybe not as much as Alabama but very high.

@@johnr8986 what I have noticed is that depending on your mode and fan setting the fan runs more or less all the time.. This seems to be the problem.. It keeps running and blows the humidity that's on the evaporator back into the space.. And since my space is small it seems to increase humidity very quickly inside.. Worth mentioning is that I drilled a hole in the pan of mine to try to reduce humidity but also to be able to drain the condensate when driving.. I had a feeling it would have slim to no effect on the humidity level inside.. And that seems to be the case.. I had talked to my AC tech I use for commercial stuff. He said most mini split type units have an inherent problem when used in out climate.. The evaporator and blower wheel never dries out and therefor he sees a lot of mold problems with these units.. They need regular servicing and cleaning of the blower wheel and condenser.. I guess he was right after all. So now I need to get a good dehumidifier.. Seems I also will need to increase my battery bank and solar to be able to keep up.. Thanks for your replies and for making these videos.

Midea info says minimum window width is 22" - but since the unit is only 19 inches wide - I'm hoping the bracket can be cut or adapted to make it fit.
